" You know, Kai, we could go separate ways," Jay suggested. " You co-"
" Nope. Out of the question." Kai replied firmly as he held his hand.
" But why?!"
" Because if I know you, and I think I di, brother, you would be going on a roller coaster. And you sprained your arm the other day."
" Don't remind me." Jay muttered. " Sometimes I think it's better if I don't tell you if I'm injured or not."
Kai turned, his gaze softened. " Jay, please don't take it so hard on yourself. You saved all of us by stopping that rock."
" Yeah, bu-"
" But what?" Kai took a deep breath. " Look, Jay, you do so many good things that sometimes, you need to take a break."
" Tell that to my sister. Look at her!" With his sprained arm in a sling, he pointed his elbow to his sister, who was indeed running around, making plans.
" Okay, first we can go to the gaming arcade and get you boys a new game to play. Then we can go to the ice cream place because who wants a sour brother.*
Jay overheard. " HEY!* he yelled. " I'm not sour!"
Mia turned to him. " Sure, bro. Sure."
Then she turned back to the mall and map. " We can go- WAIT, THEY HAVE HERSHEY'S HERE?!" she squeeled in delight.
Jay, on the other hand, groaned. " Oi, here comes the chocolate queen."
Kai chuckled at Jay's reaction, shaking his head. "You know, Mia's just excited. She's always like this when she's planning something fun."
Jay sighed, shifting his weight uncomfortably while holding his arm in the sling. "Yeah, I know, but she's got enough energy to power a city, and I'm just... I don't know, not in the mood."
Kai looked over at Jay, his eyes soft with understanding. "You're still recovering, Jay. It's okay to feel off. And honestly, it's okay to say no sometimes."
Jay frowned. "But I don't want to let her down. I feel like I'm always messing up or slowing everyone down."
Kai stopped walking and turned to Jay, grabbing him by his good arm gently. "Jay, listen to me. You're not slowing anyone down. You're not letting anyone down. You've been through a lot, especially with that arm. No one's expecting you to do it all, and no one thinks you're a burden."
Jay glanced at his sister, who was now deep in conversation with the map, rambling about which chocolate stores were the best. His heart felt heavy with guilt, but he didn't say anything.
Kai continued, his tone softer now. "Look, bro, Mia's always going to be a ball of energy. That's just who she is. But you don't have to match her pace. You do what you can, and that's enough. Got it?"
Jay sighed, still unsure, but he nodded. "Yeah, I guess... It's just hard sometimes, feeling like I have to keep up with everyone. I mean, look at her." He nodded toward Mia again, who was still excitedly planning their next stops.
Kai grinned. "She's on a sugar high just thinking about the chocolate. No one can keep up with that."
Jay couldn't help but laugh, even if it was just a little. "Yeah, she's something else."
"Exactly. So, let her be her, and you just be you. We've got your back, Jay." Kai patted him on the shoulder. "Now, let's just enjoy the day, and maybe you can try not to overthink it, alright?"
Jay gave a small smile. "I'll try."
Just then, Mia ran back over to them, her eyes bright with excitement. "Guys, I found the perfect place! They have Hershey's and those giant chocolate bars that you can share!"
Kai shot Jay a teasing glance. "Chocolate queen's orders, I guess."
Jay rolled his eyes playfully. "I guess I'm going along for the ride."
Mia beamed and grabbed both their hands, pulling them toward the chocolate shop. "Let's go, slowpokes! We've got to go to the arcade then ice cream then Hershey's to eat!"
Kai winked at Jay. "Looks like she's already decided our fate."
Jay groaned but smiled. "Fine, but you're paying for the ice cream after."
"Deal," Kai said, laughing as Mia dragged them along.
*******
At the video game shop, Jay was browsing the shelves, trying to focus on the games, but he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him. Glancing to his side, he noticed Mia standing there, her eyes sharp and focused like a hawk-specifically, on his injured arm.
"Mia, what are you doing?" Jay asked, raising an eyebrow.
Mia blinked, caught in the act, and quickly smiled. "Oh! Sorry, Jay. Just... you know, making sure you're not pushing yourself."
Jay sighed, feeling a bit smothered. "I'm fine, Mia. You don't have to keep watching me like a falcon ready to swoop in."
Mia looked sheepish for a second before suddenly perking up. "Right! Okay, I'll leave you to it!" she said, before dashing off somewhere else in the store.
Jay watched her disappear into the aisles and groaned softly. "Oh great," he muttered under his breath, "what's she up to now?"
Kai walked over, holding a game in his hand. "What's wrong?"
Jay rubbed his temple. "Mia's been acting... extra weird. She's probably off plotting something."
Kai chuckled. "She's just worried about you. Can you blame her after everything?"
"I know," Jay sighed. "But sometimes I just need a little space, you know?"
Kai gave him a sympathetic look. "I get it. Just keep an eye on her, though. You never know what she's cooking up."
Jay nodded, eyeing the aisle Mia had disappeared down. "Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of."
*******
At the ice cream place, Jay was sitting with a sundae in front of him, staring at it while Mia hovered nearby. She eyed him warily, arms crossed, clearly in "protective sister" mode.
"Mia, I can eat," Jay said, a little exasperated.
Mia shook her head. "Your doc said not to use that arm," she replied firmly, pointing at his sling.
Jay rolled his eyes, lifting his spoon with his right hand. "Mia, it's my left arm that's in the sling. I'm right-handed. I can eat just fine."
Kai, sitting across from them with his own ice cream, chimed in, "He's right, Mia. He can use his right hand without any problems."
Mia blinked, a little embarrassed. "Oh... well, yeah, but I just wanted to make sure!"
Jay grinned, finally digging into his sundae. "Thanks, Mom," he teased. "But I think I got this."
Kai chuckled as Mia flushed and sat down, trying to act casual. "Okay, okay, just making sure you're not breaking any rules."
Jay took a bite of his ice cream and smirked. "I appreciate the concern, but I'm pretty sure I can handle eating without injuring myself."
Mia huffed but smiled. "Alright, fine. Just don't come crying to me if you drop your spoon."
Kai laughed and nudged Mia. "I think you've done enough worrying for today. Let him enjoy his ice cream."
Mia leaned back in her chair, finally relaxing. "Okay, fine... for now."

At the Hershey's shop, Jay stood in front of a wall of chocolate bars, looking around. Mia was nowhere to be seen, which immediately set off a red flag in his mind.
He groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Why does she have an addiction to chocolate? I never had one," he muttered under his breath, exasperated.
Kai, standing beside him, snickered. "Mia and her chocolate obsession... it's like she vanishes the second she catches a whiff of it."
Jay rolled his eyes, still scanning the store for his sister. "Seriously, I don't get it. I mean, I like candy and all, but she takes it to a whole new level. It's like she's on a mission."
Kai smirked. "Maybe she thinks chocolate's a life necessity. For Mia, it might as well be."
Jay sighed, resigned. "I swear, if we have to drag her out of here again..."
Just then, from behind a shelf, they heard Mia's unmistakable squeal of excitement. "Oh my gosh, they have the new Hershey's bars with caramel inside!"
Jay groaned again, rubbing his temples. "Of course she found them..."
Kai patted him on the back. "Good luck, buddy. You're going to need it."
Jay let out a dramatic sigh, watching as Mia hurried back towards them, her arms full of chocolate bars. "Why do I feel like I'm going to be dealing with a sugar rush later?"
Mia grinned widely, holding up her chocolate treasures. "Don't worry, Jay. I got enough for both of us!"
Jay just shook his head, chuckling despite himself. "Oh, joy..."
