Halloween

Jay was a vampire.

Kai was a ghost.

Cole was Frankenstein, Zane was... Some random person, Nya was loch ness, and Lloyd was a land serpent.

Mia, though, was wearing her gi and headband. Nothing special.

" Uh, Mia... You do know we're gonna go now, right?" Lloyd piped up.

Mia looked up from her nails. " I know."

" Then where's your costume?"

" I'm not going trick or treating big brother."

" Wait, What?!" Jay exclaimed. " Why aren't you coming?!"

Mia cleared her throat. " There is work to be done. Also I never liked trick or treating. You go. Enjoy yourselves."

The others raised brows.

" But you're younger than us." Kai pointed out.

" What's your point?" At this time, Mia has come back with her cleaning supplies and was cleaning the window.

Lloyd was opening his mouth, but then closed it at a loss for words.

" Sure you don't want to go?" Jay asked as he grabbed his basket.

Mia looked up and shook her head. " No thanks."

Jay nodded, and all the ninja streamed out the door.

Mia sighed as she closed the door. " This is nice." She sighed as she turned the TV on to watch Kipper.

Ten Minutes later, the doorbell rang. Mia, confused, turned the TV off and went to open it.

Nelson was on the other side, looking nervous.

" Nelson? What happened?" She asked,. running to her husband on the other side of the door and close to the gate.

Nelson sighed. " Ca... Can I spend Halloween with you?"

Mia nodded, grabbed her husband's hand, and rushed inside.

" You can help me with the candy." Mia said.

Nelson blinked. " One question. Where is the candy?"

Mia's brow furrowed. " Right he-"

She opened a drawer, and found nothing.

" What?!" She exclaimed, dumping out all its contents and rummaging through them. " IT'S NOT HERE!"

" Mia, calm down." Nelson said as he dropped to his knees and rubbed her back.

Mia looked up, panic clear in her eyes. " But we need the candy!"

Nelson shook his head. " Mia, you're a baker. The best baker ever! Your caramel apples and chocolate apples taste so good!"

" What's your point?"

Nelson chuckled and helped her stand. " Well, if you put a Halloween spin on it, it might be better than candy."

" Good point, Nelson. Just one thing. We're both doing it, Nelson."

Nelson nodded and walked to the kitchen, hand in hand with his love for life. " Teach me, O wise baker!"

Mia giggled. " Hon, I'll show you."

As soon as they entered the kitchen, Mia glanced at Nelson with a determined look. "Alright, here's the plan. We’ll make caramel and chocolate apples, but we need to make them spooky. You know, something fitting for Halloween."

Nelson smiled, feeling more relaxed now that Mia had calmed down. "I’m ready for anything. Just tell me what to do."

Mia grabbed a few apples from the basket on the counter and handed some to Nelson. "First, we need to wash these apples. Can’t have dirty ones, especially if they’re for trick-or-treaters."

Nelson nodded and moved to the sink, rinsing them while Mia prepared the caramel and chocolate mixtures. She worked quickly, her movements smooth and practiced from years of baking. Soon, the sweet aroma of melted caramel filled the air, mixing with the rich scent of chocolate.

Nelson turned around, watching Mia dip the apples into the warm caramel, twirling them expertly to coat them evenly. "You make it look so easy," he said with a grin.

Mia smirked, not taking her eyes off her work. "Years of experience, Nelson. But don’t worry, I’ll guide you through it."

Nelson stepped closer as Mia handed him an apple and gestured toward the caramel pot. "Alright, your turn. Just dip it slowly and twirl it like this." She demonstrated the motion again, her hands moving gracefully.

Nelson mimicked her actions, carefully lowering the apple into the caramel and twirling it with a bit of hesitation. His first attempt wasn’t as smooth, but Mia smiled encouragingly.

"Not bad! Now, let’s add a Halloween twist." She pulled out a container filled with candy eyes, edible glitter, and spooky sprinkles shaped like ghosts and pumpkins.

"Go ahead, decorate it however you like," Mia said as she handed him the decorations.

Nelson’s eyes lit up as he began sticking candy eyes onto the caramel apple. "This is actually fun!" he laughed, adding a sprinkle of edible glitter.

Mia chuckled as she decorated her own apple, making it look like a little pumpkin with a jack-o'-lantern face. "See? I told you it would be better than regular candy."

As they continued decorating their creations, Nelson glanced over at Mia, admiring her focus and creativity. "You know, you always amaze me with how you turn something simple into something special."

Mia paused, her hand hovering over a half-decorated apple, and smiled softly at Nelson. "Thanks, Nelson. I’m glad you’re here to help."

After a while, the kitchen counter was filled with beautifully decorated caramel and chocolate apples, each one more festive than the last. They looked at their work with pride.

"Alright," Mia said, clapping her hands together, "now we just wait for the trick-or-treaters to show up."

Nelson sat down at the table with her, their hands still sticky from the caramel. "Honestly, I think the kids are going to love these more than anything we could’ve bought."

Mia leaned back in her chair, a content smile on her face. "Yeah, I think so too. This was way more fun than I expected."

Just then, the doorbell rang, and Mia jumped up excitedly. "Looks like our first visitors are here!"

Nelson followed her to the door as Mia swung it open, revealing a group of kids dressed in various costumes. Their eyes widened as they saw the tray of spooky apples Mia and Nelson had prepared.

"Whoa! These look awesome!" one of the kids exclaimed, pointing at the apples.

Mia grinned proudly as she and Nelson handed out the treats. "Happy Halloween!" she said, her voice full of excitement.

As the kids ran off, Nelson turned to Mia, squeezing her hand. "You were right. This turned out to be a great Halloween after all."

Mia smiled up at him, her eyes twinkling. "I told you, there’s always a way to make things special."

Suddenly, the hotline went off. Mia races to the elevator and went down to the hanger, where Pixel was tapping on the computer.

" What happened?" She asked urgently as she slipped her katana and bow and arrow on her back, grabbing her sling bag.

" Some goons are robbing houses."

Mia took a sharp breath. " No one's at home! They're all out trick or treating!"

Pixel nodded.

" Pix, I'm going in!"

Nelson stepped out of the elevator. " But what about the kids?"

" Pix can help. If they run out ask Blackie okay byeeeee!" She called as she ran out the garage.

Nelson sighed as he peered out. " Will she need help, do you think?"

Pixel shook her head. " She is capable. I think she can handle a few goons.

The doorbell rang again, and Nelson sighed as they walked to the elevator. " I hope so."

Meanwhile, Mia jumped from roof to roof, jumping as fast as she could. She made stairs over people dressed as a vampire, ghost, Frankenstein, lock ness, land serpent, and some robot dressed as some random person. The people gasped, but Mia did not hear them. She was too busy.

She jumped on her wind steps, and they slowly dissolved as soon as she stepped on them. She ran and ran, then executed a perfect jump in the air and spin on her side in the air, then landed straight on some more wind steps.

Finally, as she neared the neighborhood under attack, Mia slowed her pace, crouching low on the rooftop of a nearby building. She surveyed the scene below—a group of masked goons smashing their way into houses, taking advantage of the empty homes while everyone was out celebrating.

Mia narrowed her eyes, tightening her grip on her katana as she assessed the situation. There were five of them, all armed with crowbars and bags filled with stolen goods. They worked quickly, not bothering to hide their actions.

"Not tonight," Mia whispered, her voice firm with resolve.

In one swift motion, she drew her bow, nocking an arrow and aiming at the nearest goon. With a breath, she released the arrow, and it flew silently through the air, striking the crowbar out of the goon’s hand.

Startled, the goon looked around wildly, trying to figure out where the attack had come from. Mia didn't give him a chance. She leaped down from the rooftop, her katana flashing as she landed directly in front of him.

"You're done," she said coolly.

The goon staggered back, eyes wide in fear as he fumbled for his weapon. Before he could reach it, Mia swung her katana, disarming him entirely. The others, hearing the commotion, turned and spotted her.

"Who the heck is that?!" one of the goons shouted.

"She's alone, get her!" another barked.

Mia smirked, twirling her katana with ease. "You picked the wrong night to mess with this neighborhood."

The first goon lunged at her, but Mia sidestepped easily, sweeping his legs out from under him with a quick strike. Before he could hit the ground, she spun around, using the wind to propel herself forward as she launched another attack at the second goon, who was now charging at her.

With precise movements, Mia blocked his swing and countered with a series of swift strikes, leaving him defenseless within seconds. As he fell to the ground, the remaining three goons hesitated, suddenly unsure of themselves.

"Get out of here!" Mia shouted, her voice echoing through the streets.

One of the goons turned to run, but Mia was faster. She conjured a gust of wind, sending him sprawling before he could get far. The last two were frozen in place, realizing they had no chance against her.

"You can either leave now or wait for the authorities to deal with you," Mia said, her tone unwavering.

Without another word, the remaining goons dropped their bags and fled into the night.

Mia exhaled slowly, watching them disappear into the distance. She reached up, pressing the communicator on her wrist. "Pixel, the area’s clear. The goons are gone."

Pixel’s voice crackled through the device. "Well done, Mia. I'll notify the authorities to retrieve the stolen goods."

Mia nodded to herself, feeling the adrenaline slowly fade. "Thanks, Pix. I’ll head back now."

As she made her way back across the rooftops, the noise of trick-or-treaters below brought a small smile to her face. Despite the interruption, Halloween had turned out to be eventful after all.

Reaching the back entrance, Mia jumped down and entered through the garage, where Nelson was waiting for her with a relieved expression.

"Everything alright?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Mia grinned, slipping her katana back into its sheath. "Yeah, everything’s handled. A few goons tried to ruin the night, but they won’t be bothering anyone now."

Nelson stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight hug. "I knew you could handle it."

Mia hugged him back, resting her head against his chest. "Of course. Nothing can get in the way of Halloween."

Nelson chuckled softly, squeezing her hand. "Come on, the kids are waiting for their spooky apples."

As Mia and Nelson walked back inside, they heard a familiar voice behind them. "Can I have one too?" Blackie, Mia's sassy talking cat, strolled up, tail flicking in curiosity as he eyed the caramel apples on the table.

Mia laughed, reaching over to grab the biggest one. "Why not, Bee?" she said, holding it out to him.

Blackie sniffed it cautiously before taking a slow, deliberate bite. His eyes half-closed as he savored the taste, chewing with exaggerated slowness. "Mmm, not bad," he purred between bites, clearly enjoying himself.

Nelson chuckled. "Looks like Blackie’s approval seals the deal."

Mia shook her head, amused. "Oh, Bee, you always have a taste for the finer things."

As more kids came to the door for treats, one of them, a wide-eyed boy dressed as a pirate, pointed at Mia. "Are you the one who stopped the people from breaking into houses?"

Mia blinked in surprise, her hands still on the candy bowl. "Who?" she asked, pretending not to understand.

Nelson, standing proudly beside her, grinned and leaned down to the kids. "Yes, she was. She's just modest."

Mia rolled her eyes, though a small smile crept onto her face. "Oh, it was nothing," she said with a shrug, trying to play it cool.

The kids gasped in awe, one of them whispering, "Wow, she's a real hero!"

Mia blushed slightly, quickly handing out more treats. "Alright, go on now, enjoy your Halloween!" she said, gently shooing them off before Nelson could brag any further.

As the kids ran off, Nelson nudged her playfully. "Hero of the night, huh?"

Mia laughed softly, shaking her head. "Just another night on the job."

As soon as the  kids ran off, the comm in Mia's ear crackled to life. Pixel’s voice came through urgently. "Mia, we’ve got a situation. Bank robbery in progress."

Mia straightened immediately, her playful demeanor disappearing. "Where?" she asked, already slipping her katana back into its sheath.

"Downtown. I’ve sent the coordinates to your device. Multiple hostiles, heavily armed."

Nelson, overhearing, raised a brow. "Need backup?"

Mia shook her head with a grin, grabbing her bow and arrows from the rack. "Nope. This one’s all mine."

With a swift kiss on Nelson’s cheek, she dashed out the door.

As Mia reached the bank's rooftop, she spotted the robbers inside through the glass skylight. The gang was forcing people to their knees while stuffing bags with cash. She narrowed her eyes, calculating her move.

“Alright, let’s do this,” Mia whispered to herself, drawing an arrow and nocking it on her bow.

With perfect precision, she shot an arrow through the skylight, which hit the floor in front of the robbers. The arrowhead exploded into a cloud of smoke, instantly disorienting them. Taking the chance, Mia leaped down from the roof, flipping mid-air, and landed gracefully in the middle of the chaos.

"Who the hell is that?" one of the robbers shouted, stumbling back in the haze.

Mia smirked, cracking her knuckles. "Your worst nightmare," she quipped.

Before anyone could react, Mia charged forward. She flipped over a table and kicked one of the robbers in the chest, sending him crashing into a pile of chairs. Without missing a beat, she swept low, tripping another thug who tried to sneak up behind her. As he fell, Mia elbowed him in the back, knocking him out cold.

One of the gang members, clearly panicking, pointed his gun at her. "Stay back!" he yelled, but his voice shook.

Mia tilted her head, unimpressed. "You really want to do that?"

In a flash, she disarmed him, twisting his wrist until the gun clattered to the floor. Then, with a swift roundhouse kick, she sent him sprawling to the ground.

The others, seeing how effortlessly she took down their comrades, rushed her all at once. Mia dodged a punch aimed at her head, spun, and delivered a series of rapid kicks, landing each blow with precision. She vaulted over a desk, using it as leverage to propel herself into a high flip, landing right in the middle of two more goons.

They barely had time to react before she knocked one unconscious with a knee to the chin, while she kicked the other one’s legs out from under him.

"That all you got?" Mia muttered, glancing around at the remaining robbers who now looked terrified.

One last thug, desperate, tried to run for the back exit. Mia, seeing this, quickly grabbed her bow and fired another arrow. The arrow whizzed through the air and pinned his jacket to the wall, leaving him struggling to get free.

As he fought to release himself, Mia calmly walked over, shaking her head. "You know, running's never the answer." She grabbed him by the collar and slammed him to the ground.

With the entire crew taken down, Mia dusted off her hands just as the police stormed into the building. She looked at the officers and pointed at the unconscious bodies around her. "All yours, gentlemen."

Pixel’s voice came through her earpiece again. "Nice work, Mia. I’ll let Blackie and Nelson know you're done."

Mia chuckled, stepping over the groaning bodies as she made her way out of the bank. "Yeah, tell them I was just getting warmed up."

When Mia got home, she found Nelson waiting for her at the door, his face lit up with amusement. “The others just texted. They’re heading back,” he said, holding up his phone.

Mia grinned, already knowing what to do. “Act like nothing happened. Got it?” she said with a playful wink.

Nelson nodded, and both Pixel and Blackie, lounging nearby, gave their own versions of agreement — Pixel with a quick nod and Blackie with a slow, lazy blink.

“Good. Let’s keep it quiet,” Mia added, slipping off her katana and putting it back in its place, just as if it had never left her side.

Nelson moved to help her with the rest of her gear, while Blackie stretched out, casually licking his paw as if he hadn’t just watched her take down a group of dangerous robbers. Pixel sat back at her station, calmly typing away, already logging the events as if it were just another normal day.

Mia sighed contently and leaned back into the couch. “Now we wait. Act casual.”

Nelson chuckled, joining her on the couch, but not without a last smirk. "Casual, huh? After what you just did? No one's gonna believe we were just handing out candy."

Mia shrugged with a smirk of her own. "They’ll believe it if we’re convincing enough."

Ten minutes later, the rest of the team arrived, chatting loudly and laughing as they came through the door. Mia, Nelson, Pixel, and Blackie were lounging casually on the couch, acting all smooth like nothing had happened.

Kai was the first to spot Mia, narrowing his eyes. "Mia, you do know we saw you, right?"

Mia tilted her head, feigning innocence. "I don’t know what you’re talking about." She leaned against Nelson, batting her eyes. "I've been here with my sweet husband all night."

Nelson gave a small, awkward grin, but the rest of the group just crossed their arms, clearly not buying it. Jay stepped forward, shaking his head. "Come on, Mia, no one believes that. You can’t just fool us that easily."

Mia opened her mouth to protest again, but before she could, Pixel chimed in from her station. "Mia sent out her robot to help with the bank robbery."

The room went quiet for a moment, before Jay raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? Can we see it?"

Just as Mia was about to come up with an excuse, Blackie decided to jump in. He lazily stretched out, then casually said, “Annie came to do more beta testing and took it back.”

Mia shot a grateful glance at Blackie, who simply licked his paw and yawned. The rest of the group exchanged skeptical looks, but it was hard to argue when Blackie said it with such confidence.

"Right..." Jay mumbled, still not entirely convinced. "I guess we’ll just have to take your word for it."

Mia grinned. "Exactly."
