Baking - siblings+ Kai
Yeah..... This doesn't look like a cake. It looks more like a furball."
Six year old Mia rolled her eyes. " Have some faith, Kai! It'll look good!"
Jay furrowed his brow, then turned to his brother in law. " You sure we didn't miss anything?*
Kai shook his head. " No. At least I don't think so."
" Well we must have, because there's no way a cake is supposed to look like this."
Mia sighed and shook her head. " We could also just cut it, y'know."
" Oh. That's a good point."
Kai grabbed the knife. " Okay Mia. Let the older ones handle this."
Mia rolled her eyes. " If you two noticed I already cut it."
" Huh??"
The two boys looked down to see cake rusk and a neatly cut cake.
" Or we could do that." Kai muttered.
Jay clapped his hands. " Okay time to make the frosting."
Kai looked at Mia. " Get the sugar from the cabinet. I'll -"
" Just turn on the mixer because I already put everything inside." Mia said while rolling her eyes.
" Huh?!"
The boys peeked into the mixer to find...
Well everything needed to make frosting.
" .... Wow. Okay. Uh.... Jay, you start the mixer and I'll chop the fruit to put on the cake."
Jay gave him a thumbs up, and Kai started his job while Mia...
Watched some TV.
"Uh, Mia?" Jay called out as he glanced over his shoulder. "A little help here?"
Mia, lounging on the couch, waved dismissively without looking away from the screen. "You guys said the older ones would handle it. I'm just following orders."
Kai groaned as he fumbled with the knife, trying to slice a stubborn kiwi. "She's got a point. This is on us."
Jay rolled his eyes. "Okay, fine. But don't come crying to us if the frosting turns out lumpy!"
Mia smirked. "You mean when it turns out lumpy. I can already hear you screaming, Jay."
Jay's jaw dropped. "Hey! I'm not that bad!"
"Yeah, sure," Mia replied with a knowing grin. "You panicked when the eggs didn't crack evenly, remember?"
Kai burst out laughing, nearly dropping the kiwi. "She's got you there, man."
Jay huffed. "Fine. Just wait until this cake is the best thing you've ever tasted. Then who'll be laughing?"
Mia shrugged, still glued to her show. "We'll see."
🍰🍰🍰
After about thirty minutes of chaotic teamwork, the cake was finally ready. Kai had painstakingly arranged the fruit on top, while Jay managed to smooth out the frosting. They stood back, admiring their work.
"Not bad," Kai said with a nod. "We actually pulled it off."
Jay crossed his arms proudly. "Told you we didn't need her help."
Just then, Mia walked over, took one look at the cake, and burst into laughter. "You call that a cake? It looks like someone dropped it and tried to put it back together!"
Kai and Jay exchanged horrified looks. "What? No way! It's perfect!"
Mia grabbed a fork, scooped up a piece, and tasted it. She paused, her expression unreadable. Then she grinned. "Okay, it's not bad. But next time, let the real chef handle it."
Jay groaned. "Why do I feel like she's going to lord this over us forever?"
Kai shrugged. "Because she will."
Mia winked. "You know it!"
