Is that... Jay?!
Pacing around, again.
Nothing.
Pacing some more.
No ideas.
This was getting out of hand.
And he was sure that Mia wasn't taking the news very well.
He sighed.
" Hey, kid? You got anything?"
Bonzle shook her head.
" No, I haven't."
He sighed. " Stupid Lord Ras. Does he not know, there are things greater than strength?!" Then he paused. " But that does not apply to Cole. His elemental power is Earth, and that makes him really strong."
" Kai, maybe saying bad stuff about your enemies is not the best way to spend time while being stuck in here."
Kai looked at her. " Then what should I do?"
" Think about your family. It helps."
Kai gasped softly. " Nya, Mia, Cole, Lloyd, Zane. And, as much as I hate to say it, Jay."
Bonzle nodded. " For me, Geo, Fritz, Spritz, and Cole."
Kai smiled. " Yeah. Now, let's try getting out of here."
" I told you. The only way is to-"
" Have a blood moon, I know. But think if the others."
Then, an idea struck into his head. " Do you.... Think you can try and magic us out?"
Bonzle shook her head. " Nope. But, I can make a picture bubble, to see whoever you want."
" Mia." Kai said, firmly.
" Sure." Bonzle waved her hands wildly as she waved an intricate spell. Within seconds, a binding light flashed from a small orb. Kai ran to it, and pressed the orb to his face.
" I can't see anything." He complained.
" That's because you have to say whoever you want to see."
Kai squeezed the orb tighter and whispered, "Mia Walker."
The light within the orb swirled, forming a hazy image that gradually sharpened into a clear view of Mia's room. Mia sat on her bed, surrounded by her stuffed animals, staring blankly at the wall. Blackie, her sassy talking cat, prowled around, occasionally glancing at Mia with concern.
"Mia," Kai called softly, hoping she could hear him.
Mia didn't respond, her eyes remaining fixed and distant.
Blackie noticed the orb and approached it. "Kai Smith, talk some sense into her! She hasn't eaten or drunk anything since you got captured."
Kai's heart ached seeing Mia like this. "Mia, it's me, Kai. You need to take care of yourself. I promise we'll get out of here soon, but you have to stay strong, okay?"
Mia's eyes flickered with recognition, but she still didn't move. Blackie nudged her gently, "Come on, Mia. You heard him."
Kai's voice grew firmer, "Mia, think about all the things you love. Your room, your toys, your family. We need you to be strong. For all of us."
Mia's lips trembled, and she finally whispered, "I miss you, Kai."
Kai felt a rush of relief. "I miss you too, kiddo. But we'll be back together soon. Stay strong for me. Can you do that?"
Mia nodded slowly. "Okay, Kai. I'll try."
Kai smiled, despite the situation. "That's my girl. Now, Blackie, make sure she eats something, alright?"
Blackie nodded. "You got it, Kai."
The image began to fade, and Kai felt a renewed sense of determination. He turned to Bonzle. "Thank you. Now, let's find a way out of here. For Mia."
" And for the others."
Just then, a purple vortex opened, and some agents stepped forward.
" Oh, it's you guys." Kai said, no mercy shown.
" You know them?"
Kai nodded, his gaze still fixed on them. " Yep. It's the administration."
A figure stepped forward. He had brown, messy hair and freckles that looked like Mia's.
" My name is agent Jay Walker." He said.
Kai's face snapped to him. " Jay?!" He exclaimed. " What are you doing here?!"
Bonzle looked confused. " You know him?"
" He's my brother in law!" Kai replied. " Jay, so good to see you, bud."
" Huh?" Jay sounded confused. " Do I know you?"
" Jay, now is not the time for jokes. This here is Bonzle, and-"
" Yes, I know who this Bonzle is. She helps the equipment Zane escape."
" Equi... Jay, that's Zane!"
When Jay didn't respond, Kai decided to elaborate. " You know, the nindroid who, at first, we thought was a human, to find out he was a robot. He was the first to unlock his true potential."
" True potential? Look, I don't know what you're talking about."
Kai's face twisted in confusion and frustration. "Jay, what's going on? Why don't you remember any of this?"
Jay's eyes were blank, devoid of recognition. "I've been sent to retrieve you and Bonzle. That's all I know."
Bonzle stepped closer to Kai, her eyes narrowing. "It seems like someone has messed with his memory."
Kai clenched his fists. "Lord Ras. He must have done something to Jay's mind."
Jay's stance remained firm. "I don't know what you're talking about. Now, come quietly, or we'll have to use force."
Kai looked desperately at Bonzle. "We need to snap him out of this."
Bonzle nodded. "Agreed. But first, let's get out of here."
Just then, Bonzle muttered a quick spell, creating a blinding flash of light that momentarily disoriented the agents. She grabbed Kai's arm. "Run!"
Kai hesitated, glancing back at Jay. "We'll come back for you, Jay. I promise."
As they bolted towards the exit, the disoriented agents began to regain their senses. Jay's voice rang out, stern and unyielding. "Stop them!"
Kai and Bonzle dashed through the winding corridors of the strange facility. They could hear the footsteps of the agents closing in behind them.
"We need to find a way to restore Jay's memory," Kai panted as they rounded a corner.
Bonzle nodded, her eyes scanning for an exit. "Agreed. But first, we need to get to a safe place."
She focused her magic, and a door appeared.
They burst through the door, and it led outside. Kai could see the night sky above them. He hasn't seen the sky for.. weeks now. "There! We can hide in the forest."
They sprinted into the dense woods, the sounds of pursuit gradually fading. Once they were sure they were not being followed, they paused to catch their breath.
Kai leaned against a tree, his mind racing. "We need to find the others and figure out how to reverse whatever Ras did to Jay."
Bonzle agreed, "Yes, but we must be careful. Ras's influence is stronger than we thought."
Kai nodded, determination etched on his face. "For Mia, for Jay, and for everyone else. We'll set things right."
