Forgotted Birthday

One afternoon, Kai and Mia sat cross-legged on the living room floor, an intense board game spread out between them. The sun was starting to set, casting a warm, golden glow across the room. It had been a close match, with both of them trading wins and losses throughout the game. But as the final move played out, it was clear who the victor was.

Mia looked down at the board, a satisfied grin spreading across her face. She had managed to outmaneuver Kai in the last round, securing her victory. Kai let out a good-natured laugh, shaking his head in admiration.

"Good game, Mia," Kai said, reaching out to shake her hand. "You really kept me on my toes."

Mia's grin only grew wider. "Yeah, it was fun!" she replied, shaking his hand with enthusiasm. But then, in true Mia fashion, she couldn't resist adding with a playful smirk, "But I still won."

Kai chuckled and pulled her into a hug. "You did, and you earned it."

Mia hugged him back, resting her head against his chest for a moment. Despite her teasing, she was genuinely happy to have spent this time with Kai. Winning was great, but it was the laughter and the light-hearted banter that made the game truly enjoyable.

As they broke the hug, Mia looked up at Kai, still smiling. "You know, you're not a bad opponent, Kai. I might even let you win next time."

Kai raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Oh, really? I'll hold you to that."

Mia giggled, knowing full well that she'd never let him win without a fight. "Maybe. But don't get your hopes up too much!"

Kai laughed, starting to pack up the game. "I wouldn't expect anything less from you, Mia."

Suddenly, Jay burst into the room, a broad smile on his face and a stack of tickets in hand. "Guess what, everyone! I've got tickets to the amusement park for today!"

Excitement buzzed through the room as Kai and the others began chattering eagerly about the rides and attractions they'd try. But when Jay looked over at Mia, who was sitting cross-legged on the floor with a book in hand, her reaction was notably different.

Mia glanced up from her book, her eyes lighting up with a hint of forced enthusiasm. "Oh, that sounds... great," she said, trying to sound more excited than she felt. "But you guys go ahead. I'll just stay here and read."

Jay raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. "You're really going to stay home and read while we're off having fun at the amusement park?"

Mia nodded, trying to look as sincere as possible. "Yep, that's the plan. I love a good book. You guys enjoy yourselves!"

Jay wasn't convinced. "Come on, Mia. I know you love reading, but we'll be gone all day. Are you sure you don't want to join us?"

Mia picked up her book with a dramatic sigh. "Yes, Jay. I'm perfectly content staying here. I've been waiting to read this book for ages. Love you guys, have fun!"

Kai, sensing Jay's concern, put a hand on his shoulder. "Let her be, Jay. Sometimes Mia just needs her alone time. We can go have our adventure and let her enjoy her book."

Jay looked at Mia, who was already getting lost in the pages. He gave a resigned nod, though his concern was still evident. "Alright, if you're sure."

Mia gave a reassuring smile as she settled into her reading spot. "I'm sure. Go on now, before you miss out on all the fun."

With one last glance, Jay, Kai, and the others left for the amusement park, their excitement palpable. As the door closed behind them, Mia adjusted her book and settled in with a contented sigh.

* Ten minutes later....*

Mia was nestled comfortably on the couch, her book open in her lap, when the doorbell rang. Startled from her reading, she set her book aside and walked over to the door. She opened it to find a delivery package waiting on her doorstep. Curious, she brought it inside and carefully peeled off the wrapping.

Inside the package was a stuffed whale, its plush surface soft and comforting. Alongside it was a handwritten note that read, "Happy Birthday, Mia! We love you and your adventures. From a big fan."

Mia's eyes widened slightly. She glanced at the calendar on the wall and saw that her birthday was still a day away. A tinge of disappointment washed over her. No one had remembered her birthday so far, and the surprise from the fan, while thoughtful, made her feel a little wistful.

"Oh, wow," Mia murmured, smiling despite herself. She carefully hung the note on the fridge with a magnet and decided to write a thank-you card. Grabbing some stationery, she penned a heartfelt message:

"Dear Friend,

Thank you so much for the wonderful gift and the kind birthday wishes! The stuffed whale is adorable, and I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. As a small token of my thanks, I'm including a little gift for you as well. I hope it brings you as much joy as your gift has brought me.

With love,
Mia"

After finishing the card, Mia put on her shoes and grabbed the doll she had made. It was a small, handcrafted doll of her own likeness, complete with a tiny costume resembling her Wind Ninja outfit. Determined to deliver her gratitude personally, she set off towards the address listed on the package.

When she arrived at the house, she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. The sound of footsteps approached, and the door swung open to reveal a wide-eyed little girl with a ponytail and an excited grin.

"Oh, my goodness! It's Miss Mia!" the girl squealed, her eyes sparkling with awe.

Mia smiled warmly and crouched down to the girl's level. "Hi there! Please, call me Mia. I wanted to thank you for your kindness. I brought a little gift for you, too."

The girl's face lit up even more as Mia handed her the doll. "Thank you so much!" the girl exclaimed, hugging the doll tightly. "I love it!"

Her mother, who had come to the door, looked at Mia with gratitude. "You have no idea how much this means to her. She's been a fan of yours for so long. You've made her day, Mia."

Mia felt a warm flush of happiness. "I'm so glad to hear that. It was really thoughtful of you to remember my birthday. I hope you enjoy the doll!"

The little girl nodded vigorously, clutching the doll as if it were the most precious thing in the world. "I will! Thank you, Mia!"

Mia waved goodbye and turned to head back home, her heart light with joy. Despite no one else remembering her birthday, she felt a bit of peace she wouldn't be completely

As Mia made her way back home, a shy young boy approached her, clutching a small box nervously. His eyes were wide with a mixture of shyness and excitement.

“This is for you,” he said softly, holding out the box.

Mia smiled gently and accepted the box with a warm “Thank you.” She carefully opened it to reveal a small crocheted purse adorned with intricate wind patterns. The craftsmanship was delicate and beautiful, and Mia’s eyes softened in appreciation.

“It’s beautiful,” she whispered, gently running her fingers over the intricate patterns.

Touched by the gesture, Mia decided to return the kindness. She reached into her bag and retrieved another small doll—this one resembling her in her Wind Ninja outfit, complete with tiny accessories and a swirling pattern that mimicked the wind designs.

“This is for you,” Mia said, kneeling down to the boy’s level and handing him the doll with a smile.

The boy’s eyes widened with surprise and delight. “Wow! Thank you, Mia!”

Mia’s smile grew as she watched his reaction. “I hope you like it. It’s a little thank you for your lovely gift.”

The boy beamed, clutching the doll to his chest. “I love it! I’m a big fan of yours!”

Mia stood up and patted the boy gently on the shoulder. “I’m glad you do. Thanks again for the beautiful purse. It means a lot.”

With a final smile and wave, Mia turned and continued her walk home, smiling.

As Mia continued her walk home, she spotted Nelson approaching from the other side of the street. He had a charming smile on his face, and as he got closer, he gave a small, playful bow.

“M’lady,” Nelson said with a teasing grin, holding out his hands.

Mia chuckled softly, appreciating his humor. “Why, thank you, kind sir,” she replied, playing along as she placed her hands in his.

With a gentle tug, Nelson pulled Mia closer, and they began to dance right there on the sidewalk. The moment was spontaneous and lighthearted, their steps in perfect sync despite the improvised setting. Mia’s earlier feelings of warmth from the encounters with the children only deepened as she twirled and laughed with Nelson.

The world seemed to fade away as they moved together, their connection making even a simple dance feel special. Nelson’s eyes sparkled with affection, and Mia couldn’t help but smile, feeling a sense of joy that went beyond words.

As the dance came to an end, Nelson held her close for a moment, their foreheads almost touching. “You looked like you needed that,” he whispered softly.

Mia nodded, her smile softening as she looked up at him. “I did. Thank you, Nelson.”

He gave her hands a gentle squeeze before letting go. “Anytime, Mia.”

They stood there for a moment longer, basking in the shared silence, before continuing their walk together, hand in hand.

He sighed as they continued their walk, and Nelson glanced at the time and then turned to Mia with a playful grin. "Can we speed things up a bit? I think we're going to be late."

Mia smirked, always up for a challenge. "Sure thing," she said confidently. With a quick motion, she summoned a cloud under their feet, lifting them both off the ground. But something was off. As they ascended, the cloud began to wobble and suddenly spun out of control.

“Mia!” Nelson shouted, trying to steady himself, but the cloud jerked unpredictably. Before he knew it, he was being flung through the air like a kite on a string.

Mia, with her quick reflexes, immediately reached out and grabbed Nelson’s hand as he started to drift away. "Hold on!" she yelled, her voice a mix of urgency and reassurance.

Nelson clung to her hand with all his strength, feeling the wind whipping around them as the cloud spiraled faster and faster. Mia, with one hand gripping Nelson and the other clutching onto the runaway cloud, tried to regain control. They were spinning wildly in the sky, like a pair of kites tethered by a single string, with Nelson flying behind Mia as she struggled to stabilize the cloud.

"Hang tight, Nelson! I’ve got you!" Mia shouted, her voice strained as she concentrated on using her powers to slow the cloud down. But the wind had a mind of its own, pulling them in all directions.

Nelson's grip tightened on Mia's hand, his heart racing from the adrenaline. "Not exactly what I meant by speeding things up!" he called out, trying to keep the panic out of his voice.

Mia couldn’t help but laugh despite the chaotic situation. "I know, I know! Just trust me!"

After what felt like an eternity, Mia finally managed to slow the cloud down. It wobbled a few more times before settling into a more controlled glide, bringing them back to a gentle descent.

As they touched back down on solid ground, both of them collapsed into a fit of relieved laughter, still holding onto each other’s hands.

"That was… intense," Nelson said, catching his breath.

Mia nodded, still grinning. "Yeah, maybe next time we stick to walking."

Nelson gave her hand one last squeeze before letting go. "Agreed. But, you know, life with you is never boring."

Mia smirked, playfully nudging him with her shoulder. "And you love it."

“Maybe a little,” Nelson admitted with a smile, as they finally made their way back home, this time with their feet firmly on the ground.

As they approached the monastery steps, Mia slowed her pace and turned to Nelson with a soft smile. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm glow over the ancient stones. "This is where I say goodbye for today," she said, her voice gentle but firm. "Bye, Nelson."

Nelson gave her a warm smile in return, reluctant to part ways but understanding that she needed some rest after the long day. "Bye, Mia," he replied, and then, almost as an afterthought, he added with a playful grin, "Oh, and also, check your bed when you get inside."

Mia raised an eyebrow, curious but not pressing for more details. She simply nodded and, with a light touch of her powers, a soft breeze lifted her off the ground. She waved to Nelson one last time before soaring up toward the monastery, her heart light and happy. As she landed gracefully at the entrance, she wasted no time in dashing to her room, her curiosity getting the better of her.

As she flung open the door to her room, she immediately noticed a large, neatly wrapped box sitting on her bed. Her eyes widened in surprise and excitement. "What on earth...?" she murmured to herself, quickly moving to untie the ribbon.

The moment she opened the box, a cascade of stuffed animals, clothes, and other little treasures tumbled out, covering her bed and even spilling onto the floor. Mia gasped, overwhelmed by the sheer number of gifts. Each item was thoughtfully chosen, from plush toys that seemed to reflect her favorite animals, to comfortable clothes that were just her style, and even a few trinkets that made her smile with nostalgia.

She picked up a soft, cuddly stuffed bear, holding it close as she noticed a small note nestled among the gifts. Unfolding it, she read the simple yet heartfelt message:

"To Mia, from Nelson, Rose, and Jake. Just a little something to show how much we care. We hope these bring you as much joy as you bring us."

Mia felt her heart swell with warmth and affection. She hugged the stuffed bear tighter, her eyes misting over with emotion. "Oh, guys..." she whispered, a smile tugging at her lips.

She sat down on her bed, surrounded by the thoughtful gifts, and let herself bask in the love and friendship that these items represented. It wasn’t the things themselves that touched her the most, but the thought and care behind them. Mia knew that no matter what challenges she faced, she had friends who cared deeply about her—friends who went out of their way to make her feel special.

"Thank you," Mia whispered to the empty room, though she knew the sentiment would reach them all the same. With a contented sigh, she began to arrange the gifts around her room, feeling more at home than ever.

As Jay and the others returned to the monastery, the first thing they noticed was the trail of gifts scattered around Mia's room. Jay walked in, his curiosity piqued by the sight of stuffed animals, clothes, and various trinkets strewn about. "What's with all the gifts, Mia?" he asked, glancing around the room with raised eyebrows.

Mia, who was busy rearranging a few items on her shelf, shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh, nothing," she replied, trying to sound casual, but there was a hint of something in her voice that made Jay pause.

Jay's gaze shifted to the calendar on the wall. The date circled in red immediately caught his attention. He smirked, putting the pieces together. "Ohhh, that's why," he said, his tone light and teasing. "I knew it."

Mia froze for a moment, realizing what he had just figured out. "You didn’t forget," she muttered, more to herself than to Jay, her voice tinged with a mix of relief and surprise.

Jay turned to her, his brows raised in amusement. "What was that?" he asked, clearly having heard her.

Mia quickly shook her head, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Actually, forget I just said that," she quickly replied, turning her back to him to hide her embarrassment as she continued to fuss over her gifts.

Jay chuckled, walking over to her and placing a hand on her shoulder. "You really thought I’d forget, huh?" he said, his voice softening. "Come on, Mia, I could never forget something as important as your birthday. And I’m pretty sure neither could anyone else."

Mia turned around, her eyes meeting Jay's. There was a softness in his gaze that made her smile, even if she still felt a little flustered. "Well... I guess I just wasn't sure," she admitted, her voice quiet.

Jay ruffled her hair affectionately. "Well, now you know," he said with a grin. "And by the way, we’ve got some plans for tomorrow. So get ready, because your big day is going to be unforgettable."

Mia’s eyes lit up with excitement. "Really?"

"Really," Jay confirmed, and he gave her a quick hug before pulling away. "But for now, just enjoy your gifts, and maybe... stop trying to hide things from us, okay?"

Mia laughed softly, nodding in agreement. "Okay, okay. I’ll stop. Thanks, Jay."

As Jay left the room, Mia couldn’t help but smile. She felt a warmth in her heart, knowing that even when she doubted, her brother and the others were always there, remembering and caring in their own special way.
