Family time
Mia gulped and tightened her grasp on Jay's arm. " Um, are you sure they won't beat you up for loving Nya?" She whispered.
Jay looked down at her with wide eyes. " Uh, no. At least, I don't think so."
" Well, be prepared for anything."
Nya, who was behind them, sighed. " Do we have to go over this again?
At that moment, Kai joined them, looking curious about the conversation. Mia turned to Kai with a fierce look. "Kai, if your parents beat my brother up, I will beat you to your very existence."
Kai raised an eyebrow and glanced at Nya. "Good to know," he said, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
Nya rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile at Mia's protectiveness. "No one's beating anyone up, okay? Let's just get through this dinner without any drama."
Jay nodded, trying to muster up some courage. "Right. No drama. Got it."
Kai chuckled. "Don't worry, Jay. Our parents are more bark than bite. Just be yourself."
Mia, still holding onto Jay's arm, whispered, "And remember, I'm here for backup."
Jay smiled, feeling a bit more reassured. "Thanks, Mia. I appreciate it."
As they approached the house, Jay took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for whatever lay ahead. With his friends and his sister by his side, he felt ready to face any challenge, even if it involved Nya's intimidating parents.
As they approached the house, Jay took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for whatever lay ahead. He was pleasantly surprised when the door opened to reveal Maya and Ray, Kai and Nya's parents, with warm smiles on their faces.
"Welcome!" Maya said, her eyes lighting up as she saw the group. "Come in, come in!"
Ray stepped forward, giving Jay a friendly pat on the back. "We've heard so much about you, Jay. It's great to finally meet you."
Jay blinked, momentarily taken aback by their warmth. "Uh, thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Smith."
Maya laughed. "Please, call us Maya and Ray."
Nya stepped forward, looking relieved. "See? I told you they'd be nice."
Kai nodded in agreement. "Yeah, no need to worry, Jay. You're in good hands."
Mia, who had been gripping Jay's arm tightly, relaxed a bit. "Okay, maybe this won't be so bad."
Maya led them into the living room, where a delicious spread of food was laid out. "I hope you're hungry," she said with a smile. "We made all of Kai and Nya's favorites."
Ray nodded. "And we want to hear all about you, Jay. Nya has told us some wonderful things."
Jay felt a wave of relief wash over him. He exchanged a grateful glance with Nya and Kai, then looked down at Mia, who gave him an encouraging nod.
"Thank you," Jay said, his nerves easing. "I'm really glad to be here."
As they all sat down to eat, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and conversation. Jay quickly realized that Maya and Ray were not only loving but also genuinely interested in getting to know him. Any fears he had melted away, and he found himself enjoying the evening more than he had expected.
Mia leaned over to Jay and whispered, "Told you it would be okay."
Jay smiled and whispered back, "Yeah, you were right. Thanks, Mia."
As the evening progressed and everyone was feeling more comfortable, Maya looked at Jay and Nya with a curious smile. "So... you guys are like yin and yang or something?"
Jay and Nya both froze, their faces turning a shade of red. They exchanged a quick glance, unsure how to respond.
Kai, sensing the tension, jumped in with a chuckle. "Mom, you always ask the most interesting questions."
Maya laughed, waving a hand dismissively. "I just mean, you balance each other out so well. It's a good thing!"
Ray nodded, grinning. "Yeah, Jay's the lightning, and Nya's the water. Sounds like a perfect match to me."
Jay relaxed a little, managing a smile. "Yeah, I guess we do balance each other out."
Nya, still blushing slightly, nodded. "It's true. We work well together."
Mia, ever the protective sister, piped up. "Jay's awesome, and so is Nya. They're perfect for each other."
Maya beamed at the pair. "That's wonderful to hear. Balance is important in any relationship."
Ray clapped his hands together. "Well, I think it's fantastic. You two make a great team."
" A great team?" Kai scoffed. " They're a great couple. Did u ever tell you that, during the time Nya lost her powers, Jay literally hovered over her?"
" So did you! " Nya argued.
Kai shrugged. " Just saying. And another time, in the jungle, Jay was running away from a monster and bumped into Nya. Unfortunately, she was in the edge of a cliff. But with his quick reflexes, he got her."
Jay smiled. " And I still remember the overprotective brother. You are still that same, exact person."
Kai shrugged. " It helps."
