Pumpkin Fight- Jaya (chaos)
A/N This takes place about a month or several weeks after the end of chaos. If you haven't read chaos, there's spoilers in there, but you'll still be able to read it.
Nya's POV
"Oh come on Nya, if you're going to be Snow White, you might as well go all the way!" Skylor tells me, the red lipstick in her hand. Coincidentally, when Jay and I decided to be Snow White and her Prince Charming (which Jay was very eager about since we both match them physically), Kai and Skylor decided to be Ariel and Eric. Instead of going for the mermaid look, Skylor went with Ariel's land outfit. She has the blue bow in her scarlet hair just like Ariel.
"Well, unlike you and Kai, Jay and I aren't going to any parties. We're just staying here, so there's no point in that," I gesture towards it. She shakes her head.
"If you really don't want it, I won't force you into it. How's your ankle feeling?" she looks down at my ankle that's in a brace. The doctor gave me the clear to get out of the boot, but I still need to wear a brace for added support.
"It's felt better, obviously, but it's a lot better than it used to be," I look down at it.
"That party was very...eventful, wasn't it?" Skylor slightly laughs.
"Tell me about it. I'm still not thrilled with Kai for lying to me, but if we're trying to repair our relationship, I can't hold grudges," I look at Skylor through the reflection in the mirror.
"That night was not Kai's finest in the slightest. I still give him crap about it," she admits, finishing the faint blush on my cheeks.
"Knock knock," Kai leans against the doorway, his white, long sleeve shirt significantly unbuttoned just how Eric's is.
"And I didn't think you could get any finer," Skylor says, a small smirk on her lips.
"I am your prince, aren't I? I have to try my hardest to look like anything next to you," he walks over, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. He places a long kiss on her lips. "You look gorgeous by the way, but you always do."
"Where are you two going?" I ask, knowing that they're not just going out Trick or Treating.
"Morro throws the most elaborate Halloween parties ever. He has the most insane ghost costume ever. It's as if he's made for the holiday," Kai says. "You went your freshman year. You're invited to come if you'd like, but I know you have your party thing."
"Yeah, I'm good, but thanks for the offer," I say, standing up and smoothing out my dress.
"When's Jay showing up? I don't want to leave you alone," Skylor says, resting her head into Kai's shoulder.
"Soon. He left his house a while ago," I tell them.
"Oh, mom also wants pictures of us, so Skylor and I can wait until Jay gets here to take pictures," Kai says, making me roll my eyes.
"Or she could just come here herself."
"Tell me about it. Did you ever send her the pictures from homecoming?" my brother asks me as we walk out of my room and into our general living area.
"Pfft, of course not," I respond. "She hasn't asked me since then, so she obviously doesn't care that much."
"She's been pestering me about it," Kai responds. He sits on the couch with Skylor, his arm around her.
"I can take pictures of you two if you'd like while we're waiting," I tell them. They shrug, and the three of us go out to our front yard.
Taking Skylor's phone, I take pictures of them in various poses. They take some next to each other, some where she is in his arms, and some making little movie references like when they lean in for the kiss.
"Sorry I'm late, m'lady," hearing the sound of my boyfriend's voice, my head whips in his direction. He presses a kiss to my hand, causing a slight brush to spread across my cheeks.
"You're all good, my prince. You look rather charming, by the way," I tell him. His costume is spot on, from the white undershirt to the blue overlay and the red cape.
"Thank you. I like your headband," he says, a teasing smile on his face. I gently elbow him in the side.
"Enjoy it while you can, because it's never going in my hair again," I tell him in a joking tone even though I'm not joking. He lets out a small laugh. "Hey Ariel and Eric, you can go to your party now."
Skylor and Kai look over at me, completely oblivious to the fact that Jay even showed up. When they see him, Skylor gets a smile on her face while Kai looks a bit skeptical.
"You two fit the parts perfectly. It works really well," Skylor tells us genuinely.
"So...what are you two going to be doing while we're at the party?" Kai asks, going into protective brother mode. He crosses his arms. I roll my eyes at his antics.
Ever since Kai and I made up, he's stopped being mean to Jay, but he's now being a protective older brother. He'll ask Jay where we're going to go and what we're going to do as if he didn't expose me to way worse than Jay ever could. I let him do it though since it makes him feel important.
"We're going to carve pumpkins, watch horror movies, and hand candy out to kids," I answer, and Jay nods in response.
"Alright, just don't do anything you wouldn't do with me here," he walks over and wraps his arms around me, bending over some and trapping me in a tight hug. "I love you sis. Call me if you need anything."
"Of course. Same goes for you. If you two get completely trashed, don't even think about driving," I tell the two of them, knowing exactly how Morro's parties go.
"I'm responsible. I wouldn't dream of it."
"Is that why during your Sophomore year you decided to spontaneously go skinny dipping in the middle of one of Morro's parties?" I bring up, a little smirk on my face. Kai's eyes widen as Skylor starts hysterically laughing. I hear Jay laugh next to me.
"I...I...I told you to forget about that," he tells me accusingly, making me laugh even more.
"I was scarred for life. There was no way I was forgetting that," I inform him, shaking my head.
"As much as I want to hear some more wonderful Kai stories, we should probably get going," Skylor suggests, and Kai agrees with her. After giving me one last hug and Jay a head nod, Kai follows Skylor to her new car, and the two of them drive away.
"I'm glad things are better between you and Kai," Jay tells me.
"So am I. Now, let's go get our pumpkin carving on," I say, and Jay's face lights up.
"I love pumpkin carving so much! Ever since I was a kid, my parents and I would have our own little pumpkin carving contest. Each of us would make 3 different ones, and whoever could make the scariest, most traditional, and cutest won. Last year, I..." Jay starts excitedly explaining his family tradition. I get so caught up in how happy and excited he is that I don't even realize that we've walked inside and sat down at the table.
"Can I admit something?"
"Yeah of course."
"I've never carved a pumpkin before," I say, making his eyes widen.
"You what?" he yells out of shock.
"I know I know. My parents didn't like the mess, so we never did it, and Kai and I never picked it up after they left," I explain to him.
He shakes his head, clicking his tongue. "Well, lucky for you, you just so happen to be dating the best pumpkin carver in all of Ninjago."
"Oh am I now?"
"Mmmhmm," he leans over, giving me a sweet, brisk kiss. The corners of my lips turn up even more. "You look beautiful, by the way."
"Thank you," I reply. "Now, how am I supposed to start?"
"Well, first you need to cut open the top of the pumpkin so you can remove the guts and hallow out the inside. Where's the carving stuff I brought over yesterday?"
"I'll go get it," I walk to my room, grab the bag, and bring it back out. When I walk back in, Jay looks at me with an adorable smile. He digs through the bag and pulls out two medium sized knives before handing me one.
"Cut the stem out in the shape of a pentagon," he instructs me. Taking the knife, I stand up to get a better vantage point. I mentally trace a pentagon in my head. Bringing the knife down, I try to puncture the skin of the pumpkin, but it won't go through. I push harder, and it still won't. Finally, I give up, letting the rage overwhelm me, and stab the pumpkin. The knife finally goes through, and with effort, I start cutting out a lopsided pentagon. When I look at Jay's, he already has a perfectly shaped pentagon pulled out.
After what feels like forever, I finally try to take it out, but then it gets stuck.
"Do you..."
"No," I answer, heaving at the top. Finally, I pull it out, also pulling out a large chunk of the pumpkin.
"Alright, now we rip out the guts. Just take handfuls of the pumpkin insides and put it in the bowl. It's messy but fun. Once you have most of it out, I have a tool that can finish it," rolling up his sleeves, he starts to rip out the guts. I follow his lead, pulling out the pumpkin insides at a ferocious speed. However, I start going too fast, and a large ball of the guts I just ripped out flies out of my hand and hits Jay in the face. My hand flies to my mouth to stifle my laughter, incidentally smearing some on my own face.
"Oh it's on," Jay takes a handful and throws it at me, hitting my arm.
"You really want to do this? I might suck at carving a pumpkin, but I have perfect aim," I raise an eyebrow at him.
"While I don't doubt that..." a glob of pumpkin insides hits my forehead...,"the look on your face was too priceless not to."
"Oh, it's on Jay Walker," as I say that, he takes two large handfuls and runs away. I take one and hurl it at the back of his head. The orange splatters in his auburn hair, and he starts hysterically laughing as he ducks behind the kitchen island. As I go to check there, he gone. Suddenly, I feel something splatter on the back of my head, and when I stick my hand back, a mixture of seeds and slimy orange insides are there. "Touché," I say, and suddenly there are a pair of arms wrapped around me.
"I'm sorry; you just looked so huggable," he laughs from behind me, nuzzling his face in my neck. Lifting up my hand, I take the handful I just took out of my hair and smear it down the side of his face. I turn around so I'm facing him, inadvertently smearing some of the pumpkin on me.
"You're forgiven. You know I can't resist your hugs," I look at my boyfriend and best friend. His bright blue eyes glisten with joy.
"You're my favorite person," he tells me. My heart swirls around in my chest, lightness through me.
"You're mine too," I reply. Leaning in, I press my lips against his. Our kiss is slow and passionate. While my arms rest over his shoulders, his hands rest on my waist. My hands slowly trail through his messy hair, entangling it with the pumpkin seeds inadvertently. His thumbs trace small circles on my hip bones.
Pulling away, I rest my forehead against his chest and enjoy his presence. Jay has helped me so much since the start of this school year. He's helped me emotionally, being a genuine friend to me, and showed me that I'm worth being cared for. He's given me company in my darker hours and has given me someone like me, someone I can talk to about my intrests. Without him, all of the positive change in my life with my brother and Cole probably wouldn't have happened.
"Jay, I..." I start, but the door opens. My head turns to face the direction of the door.
"Hey Nya, I realized that we didn't take any pictures together and..." my brother pauses when he sees us. "What the hell happened?"
"We had a pumpkin fight. What else does it look like?"
