Being different is not bad

This One-Shot was inspired by recent @twigs-sprigs comics, and Lloyd's credit as a hybrid of dragon and oni goes to him as well.

I hope you all liked it.

-------------------------------------------

Lloyd knows that he is different from the other children, since his horns, fangs, tail and ears gave him away too much, that was clear.

Lloyd considered himself the strangest child of all, the little he knew about himself was that he was a descendant of dragons and onis, that was one of the few things he remembered from the words of his mother Misako before leaving him in the Dark School for Bad. Boys, he guessed he was hereditary from Uncle Wu and his father Lord Garmadon.

But his strange dragon and oni quirks didn't help enough for other people, many looked at him with contempt and hatred considering him a "weirdo", many annoyed him by intentionally stepping on his tail and making fun of him for the little horns on his head. At least his classmate Brad wasn't bothered by his "quirks", but I doubt that little when Brad joined the other classmates of his was also bothered.

And things got too complicated when he was kicked out of school for not being bad enough, (a complete excuse from the teachers in Lloyd's opinion), it was a futile attempt to hide his tail, it was quite long, but at the end of the day. At the same time, he at least managed to hide his ears and horns well under his hood. When he passed through the villages in search of food, the villagers kept glaring at him due to his peculiar dragon tail, and even he was the target of a lot of garbage thrown by the same villagers who shouted hatefully at him. leave the town for considering it a "monster".

The situation was seriously not in Lloyd's favor, every time he looked at himself in any reflection he hated the way he looked too much. And things got even worse as the serpentine betrayed him several times and the ninjas, who had humiliated him in the village as punishment for scaring the villagers, now became his "babysitters" by order of his uncle, but at least it was better to live in a real room to sleep among the garbage dumps of the towns he had visited.

It was good to see that the ninjas had no problem with his appearance, after all his uncle had already explained his hereditary origin to them. And instead of being teased, all he heard from them were pleasant jokes, like when Jay had scratched his ears as a joke, which embarrassed Lloyd as he had to endure the comfort of someone else scratching his ears. Like how Cole stroked the fur on his tail once when he fell asleep next to him on the couch while everyone was watching a simple movie, and how Zane polishes his little horns to keep them clean and healthy. Kai and Nya treated him like a normal child in the same way, sometimes Kai would even play with his tail just for fun, but that annoyed Lloyd, who would always pout and throw tantrums to leave his tail alone.

But still, every time Lloyd looked at himself in the bathroom mirror, he almost didn't like what he saw of himself, he wanted to look like a normal boy, without horns, tail, long ears or fangs in his teeth, and honestly to her She would also like to change her eye color to non-scary ones, maybe she would change her red eye color to her favorite color, a normal green.

As he remembered how Jay had been scared of his eyes when he went to the kitchen for a late night snack, Lloyd was there too and the light from the fridge made his eyes shine too bright in the dark, Jay screamed thinking it was a ghost but when he turned on the light it calmed down as it was just Lloyd stealing food from the fridge.

Normally when she went for a walk in the city with one of the ninjas she had a habit of hiding all her quirks, except she couldn't hide her tail, so she had no choice but to let everyone see her, at least they couldn't see his other imperfections when he had his hood on. But just one day that he went shopping with Kai, Lloyd decided to wait for him in the park that was in front of the grocery store since the line had ended with too many people to Lloyd's annoyance, at least swinging on the swings for a while would do entertained, more to see how the other children played, but then he saw how a group of older children bothered other children who demanded that they return their ball.

Lloyd doesn't know why, but he still got up from the swing and ran to confront those underage bullies.

- Hears! Leave them alone, fool! – Lloyd stood in front of the younger ones to face the older ones.

- Hey! - Exclaims with disgust, who seemed to be the leader, the boy when he saw Lloyd's tail - Are you some kind of circus freak or what? – It seemed that his "funny" comment made his other classmates laugh at the same time.

- GRRR! – Lloyd could only growl with hatred at the boy's offensive comment, and he didn't know why, but Lloyd ended up pushing him making everyone around him gasp from the unexpected action of the little hybrid.

From there the situation got worse, the older boy pushed Lloyd back but harder until he threw him to the ground and exposed his entire head, where everyone saw his horns and ears. But still Lloyd did not flinch and pounced on the other boy until he was on the ground.

- I SAID LEAVE THEM ALONE! – Lloyd seemed to bring out the oni side of him when he used that threatening voice with the boy, who now seemed terrified by Lloyd's wild fury.

- L-Leave me, monster! – The other boy tried to get rid of Lloyd but he appreciates or works.

- Lloyd, stop! – Kai's firm voice reached Lloyd's ears and he immediately left the boy alone on the ground as he got up and walked silently right behind Kai, who sighs as he pats Lloyd's head a little to show him something. security - Okay, if you don't want problems all of you - he said pointing to the older children who now seemed more fearful before the firm and stoic presence of Kai - It will be better if you go home at once - and without more to say the children They got the message and fled the scene.

Kai picked up the ball and turned to the other children – Don't worry, everything is fine, have a go – Kai hands them the ball and the children take it with pleasure.

-Thank you, ninja lord - one of the children thanked him kindly while he turned around with his other friends and calmly left the park.

Kai finally turns to Lloyd.

- I just wanted to help... - Lloyd admits with his head lowered as he played with the sleeves of his sweater.

- I know - Kai's voice didn't sound angry as Lloyd expected, but soft and understanding, Kai even approached him and gave him a small hug and then ruffled his blond hair a bit - Let's go home -

And so they both walked home in silence, Lloyd staying too close to Kai not to walk away from him.

Arriving home, Lloyd did nothing but run to his room to hide. He hid most of the time under the sheets and did not stop crying, he thought that now the ninjas would look at him badly, and he could go saying goodbye to the good company of the boys and Nya.

But then there was a light knock on his door.

- Lloyd, it's me, Kai. I'm going in, okay? –

Lloyd didn't say anything until Kai came in, even letting him sit next to her on the bed, Lloyd didn't even stop Kai from wiping away her tears in one quick motion.

- It's all right, dwarf. You don't have to worry about what happened in the park - he said as he discovered the boy's face better by sliding his hood down.

- I only wanted to help those children, Kai. But in the end they saw my bad side... - Lloyd mentions as he sobbed a little while he tried to wipe the tears from his eyes.

- Lloyd, in your place I would have been angry too, but what you were trying to do was not bad, helping others is not bad, and even more so if those people are weaker than others -

- But I'm a monster Kai, I could have seriously hurt that child if I had let out all my Oni side in front of him and the other children - he moaned as he hid his face in his hands trying to avoid more sobs.

- You're not a monster, Lloyd - he said as he affectionately caressed the boy's head. - You know? At your age, many children in the town where Nya and I lived, also called me a monster –

- Really? – Lloyd asked curiously while.

- Yes, in those times the only thing that mattered to me was Nya's safety, and I wouldn't let other children bother her, and I was quite wild with the other children, even their parents were scared of me, and when I earned my scar in the eye, many were afraid of me, they thought that I was a monster in the form of a child, who would probably eat their little sister in the future - Kai smiled with nostalgia but also with a bit of sorrow and sadness when remembering the days before to join Sensei Wu's team.

- I did not know, I did not know it... -

- I know, but that doesn't mean that I also felt the same way as you, besides, all people can be monsters, all of us... well... we have that fury inside us that makes others scared. You shouldn't let that get to you, especially if it makes fun of your weird dragon and oni parts –

- But people always say that I'm not normal because of how I look -

- Really? Well, to me you look like a cute little boy. Who would deny that curious tail of yours? – Said Kai mockingly as he played with Lloyd's tail, who painfully pushed it away from him.

- You may treat me well, but you know that other people don't think the same, if they see me differently, they aren't... like you - Lloyd openly admits as he hugged himself and wrapped his tail around his legs .

- Being different is not bad, and honestly I think being "normal" sounds boring, I mean, nobody here is normal, where else have you seen guys with ninja skills fighting humanoid snakes and using elemental powers through golden weapons legendary? – Kai admits openly as he made gestures with his hands in an attempt to imitate everything he said.

- Good point -

- Listen, being different does not mean that you are bad or abnormal in front of other people, being different means that you are unique, in fact, nobody in the world is "normal", everyone has their differences and oddities, like Jay, who kisses his pillow in his sleep, or Zane when he gets stuck in his world, or Cole when he dances during some workouts, or Nya who hardly cares about girly things, your uncle Wu who only drinks is tea and I wear too much hair gel. Nobody is normal, we are all weird in the world, Lloyd, and you are not a monster, in fact you are the nicest boy I have ever met –

- But because of me the serpentine...-- -

In that Kai stops him - Yes, I know, you freed them and now almost everything is a disaster but still you try to remedy it, you had the right to be angry with the world for how others treated you and more with us that we did not help you since the beginning, and part of all this is also our fault, we should have taken you to your uncle in the first place instead of leaving you hanging on that sign to humiliate you. What defines us as good people is when we try to remedy mistakes, forgiveness is not easy, but it is still good to try to forgive ourselves –

- Okay... - Lloyd agrees.

- Ah yes, I almost forgot something - in that, Kai takes an old red dragon stuffed animal out of his pants pocket - This is one of the few toys I've had in my life, but this was always my favorite, my parents made it for me when I was a baby and it has helped me throughout my short childhood, and then I help Nya, and when she no longer needs it she gives it back to me and it has survived many things - he said nostalgically to the observe in detail the old dragon stuffed animal – But now I give him to you, he will help you and protect you from bad times, just hug him as tight as you can and you will see that very soon the bad moments will fade from your mind very quickly –

- R-Really? Are you going to give me your stuffed dragon? – Very subtly Lloyd took it from Kai's hands.

- Of course, you need it more than me, it will help you, I assure you, boy - Kai smiled as he caressed Lloyd's head affectionately.

- Thank you Kai! - Lloyd showing him his big smile seemed that finally his tears had completely faded from his face. Without even hesitating, Lloyd threw himself into Kai's arms to hug him tightly. Kai for his part didn't deny the boy and hugged him back.

- Everything will be fine, Lloyd. I promise you - Kai assures him calmly with the child in his arms.

- I hope so... - Lloyd no longer wanted to think about what would happen in the future of his life, he only focused on enjoying the moment in Kai's arms, which brought him security and comfort for the moment.
