When Sensei Wu told Kai to take Lloyd with him on his night patrol he thought it would be easy, this was because the other ninjas had to patrol in different parts of the city that were far from the Ship's radar, Nya also participated in the patrol, but Sensei Wu had to go to the neighboring village of the city since his tea seller friend gave him the address of a store where new packages of special teas would arrive, which left Lloyd to stay alone for a long time on the Ship and Sensei Wu did not want to leave his nephew alone, so since it was Kai's turn to take care of Lloyd it was decided that the Sensei's nephew would accompany him during his patrol through the city.

But for Kai it was not really bad to have the company of little Garmadon, he obeyed everything that Kai asked of him and did not move away from the Red Ninja at any time. Lloyd always stayed close to Kai and even brought binoculars so he could watch as Kai did from the roofs of buildings.

But that peaceful night for Kai went overboard when he ran into a group of serpentines that were roaming the alleys of the city. Kai thought it would be easy to intercept them and defeat them all without help, but Kai miscalculated the number of serpentines there were because once he defeated the first group in the alley, more serpentines appeared from the shadows and were more armed than Kai.

The fight was in Kai's favor at the beginning, but the serpentines were like cockroaches with scales, you defeated some and more serpentines came out of nowhere. Kai must have assumed that this type of group of large numbers of serpentines is a Pythor tactic in case any of his exploration groups ran into the ninjas or some other authority figure in the city.

Lloyd watched from afar (hidden behind some garbage containers at the exit of the alley) as Kai fought fiercely against the serpentine, but he also noticed how he was losing the advantage against the large number of serpentine that kept arriving from different parts of the alley.

Almost panicking, Lloyd made the hasty decision to help Kai against the serpentine. He didn't think twice when he grabbed a large bag of garbage from the containers and with all his strength threw it at two serpentine that were about to attack Kai from behind. This managed to give Kai the advantage in the fight again, but the bad thing was that it caught the attention of the other serpentine that were near the place.

Lloyd's hasty action helped Kai defeat the serpentine that were on top of him, but as soon as he saw how some of those snakes were heading towards Lloyd, he didn't hesitate to pounce on them to prevent them from capturing Lloyd. However, Kai's strength wasn't enough to keep them on the ground for long as the two serpentines broke free from Kai's weight by throwing him to the ground. One of the serpentines lunged at him and used its claws to pierce Kai's side several times to immobilize him, but Kai, out of pure adrenaline, managed to shake off the serpentine attacking him.

- Kai? – With a trembling voice, Lloyd watched as Kai held his side with his free hand.

- Hide! – Kai ordered firmly as he turned around and saw some serpentines he had defeated getting up from the ground. Lloyd didn't hesitate and hid outside the alley, but he didn't go as far as abandoning Kai, and even though he couldn't see the fight completely, he could clearly hear how the fight was developing as he heard blows, serpentines screaming and growling, and the sounds of Kai's voice as he was still trying hard to fight his enemies.

Lloyd even saw a serpentine fly out of the alley and land hard on the pavement of the street with a loud and painful sound as he didn't see it get back up. As Lloyd heard more sounds of the fight he suddenly saw some of the serpentine run out of the alley in fear leaving their other fallen comrades behind.

When Lloyd noticed a long silence in the alley, he gathered his courage to come out of his hiding place and check if Kai was still there.

And indeed, Lloyd managed to catch a glimpse of Kai's tired and trembling figure in the alley, surrounded by several knocked-out serpentines on the ground. What was worrying for Lloyd was seeing that in some parts of Kai's body the blood could be seen due to the numerous wounds that could be seen through his already torn red gi.

Kai weakly supported himself with his sword, but as he staggered from exhaustion he ended up hitting his shoulder on the alley wall and dropped to the ground without having any more strength to get up. His breathing became labored and weak as he dropped back onto the ground with his eyes on the night sky and no desire to get up again.

Lloyd was quick to run towards Kai and kneel beside him.

- Kai? KAI! – Lloyd shook Kai's shoulder several times but still received no response from the Red Ninja - Kai, please get up! –

- Lloyd...? – despite the obvious tiredness, Kai managed to hear Lloyd's voice, but his condition was not the best, without a doubt the serpentine caused him great damage during the fight – You're okay... I'm glad... – Kai let out a sigh of relief, but soon showed a painful grimace as he tried to touch a serious injury on his side.

- W-What... What should I do? – Lloyd tried to see how he could help Kai, but he was just a child without any medical knowledge for this type of situation.

- C-Calm down... take my communicator and call the others, the call will guide them directly to us... – said Kai somewhat hurt as he removed his communicator from his mask and handed it to Lloyd.

After Lloyd called out to the others about what happened in the alley, the boys managed to calm Lloyd down by promising that they would get to their location quickly so they could help Kai. Minutes passed and all Lloyd did was wait by Kai's side, without even thinking about it, Lloyd ended up curling up next to Kai to seek some comfort from him, plus, so Lloyd could make sure he could hear Kai's breathing as he felt his chest rise and fall with each labored breath he took.

- Calm down, Lloyd... - Kai suddenly mentioned as he placed his hand on the boy's head, who did nothing at the Fire Ninja's warm touch, just continued to hug Kai tighter – Everything will be okay...we're going to be okay... - was all Kai said as he tried to stay awake, but the fatigue from his fight managed to catch up with him and he let himself fall into an uncertain dreamless sleep.

Everything that happened next was uncertain for Kai, but his hand continued to hug Lloyd, even though the boy no longer felt the strength in his injured friend's arm.

The next thing Kai knew when he opened his eyes was to see that he was no longer in the alley, but in the well-known infirmary room of the Ship, it was easy to recognize it by its variety of medical supplies, the window with sky-blue curtains and the glass cabinet full of various medicines and other medical tools.

- Are you okay Kai? – asked the well-known worried voice of Zane, who was sitting in a chair next to Kai's bed. Faintly Kai managed to glimpse Zane's worried face, it seems that he had stayed by his side the whole time since he was brought.

- Zane...? – Kai tried to support himself with his hands, but the pain in his body prevented him and he stayed lying on the bed - What happened...? How...? – suddenly memories of that night hit Kai's mind when he didn't see Lloyd anywhere in the infirmary – Wait, wait – Kai's eyes quickly studied the infirmary with concern – W-Where's Lloyd? Is he--? –

- He's okay - Zane managed to calm Kai by putting his hand on his friend's bandaged shoulder, when Kai saw how Zane showed him a reassuring smile he let him know that Lloyd was really safe, since Zane never lied - Lloyd is in his room right now and he wasn't hurt, thanks to you he's safe -

Kai exhaled with relief and settled further into the bed as the sudden worry he felt faded from his chest.

- It's a relief... - Kai mentioned as he brought his forearm to his forehead.

- As soon as Lloyd called us we quickly headed towards the place where the communicator signal was, I was the first to arrive and I managed to calm Lloyd down and tend to your wounds a bit, apparently you fainted and as soon as the others arrived I asked Cole to carry you to take you back to the Ship - Zane patiently explained the events of that night.

- How bad am I? – Kai asked, imagining the severity of his injuries.

- Not that bad – Zane said, calming Kai's visible concern for his condition – So far the only serious thing is the wounds on your side, but they will heal well, don't worry – Zane smiled as he saw Kai's expression relax a little.

- That sounds good –

- But you will have to be on bed rest for several days – Zane quickly added.

- Yaay... – in an emotionless and bored way Kai pretended to celebrate, since being on bed rest meant no "Ninja training", and no getting out of bed until he was completely healed, and if he disobeyed he would face the fury of Nya and Cole.

- Well, at least Sensei Wu will give you that special tea for your wounds, so your bed rest won't last long – Zane said trying to cheer Kai up.

- Well, that sounds good – Kai answers.

As night fell, Lloyd dared to interrupt the infirmary to make sure Kai was still okay, but he didn't expect Kai to still be awake.

- Lloyd? – Kai asked confused when he saw the blond boy peeking into the infirmary entrance.

Shyly, Lloyd decided to reveal himself completely and approach where Kai's bed was – Hello... – he greeted using a low and embarrassed tone.

- Hello – Kai greeted him kindly when he saw how the boy approached somewhat dejected – Come on, come in – Kai encouraged him to get into bed with him.

With no other option, Lloyd climbed onto Kai's bed and sat near him, but he still didn't say anything - Is something wrong, Lloyd? - Kai suddenly asks Lloyd.

- I-I just wanted to see... if you were okay - Lloyd replies weakly, but without looking at Kai.

- Awww, how sweet of you, shorty - Kai laughs as he ruffles Lloyd's hair affectionately, and then Lloyd feels the warmth in Kai's hand again, which remained even when Kai had passed out from his injuries in the alley.

- Hey - Lloyd whines, but deep down he liked receiving this kind of affection from Kai.

After all, the warmth Kai gave off was the most comforting thing Lloyd could ever feel in his entire life.
