Chapter 2: False Accusations
Kai sat in Cole's nightclub with the man himself. They sat at a table up on a high terrace that overlooked the club.
"So, what's with the visit?" Cole asked as he sipped from a glass of wine. "This." Kai replied as he slipped Cole a picture of Nya. "Who's the cutie?" Cole asked with a smirk as he looked at the image. "Hey, watch it. That's my little sister." Kai said as his eyes narrowed on the other male and Cole raised his arms in the air with wide eyes, looking akin to a deer caught in headlights. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Relax. I have no intention of ending up on your bad side of all things." Replied the black haired male.
"Either way, what about her?" Cole asked as he sipped his drink again. "She just entered NU and ya know, I've told ya how I'm from the country and all..." Kai started and Cole chuckled. "Yeah, I believe we met way back before you lost your accent my friend. Hell, you were so green to the city life that I had fun tricking you into all sorts of shit." Cole said with a laugh and Kai rolled his eyes before taking an ice cube out of his beer and throwing it at Cole, hitting the man in the nose.
"Either way, she's still green and you remember all the shit you had to bail me out of because I didn't know what I was doing." Kai said and Cole nodded along. "I just want you to have your guys look out for her. Make sure no one messes with my sis. Keep her safe, but don't let her know I'm a crooked cop. So far as she knows I'm straight and I'd like to keep it that way." He finished and Cole rubbed his chin. "I'll see what I can do. Let me keep this photo so I can make sure the bozos know what she looks like, you know how they are with verbal descriptions. Dem fools." He replied and Kai hummed. "Fine, just make sure no one touches her, ya know?"

Jay walked into a dinner and looked around, finding no empty tables. "Here to? Why are all the affordable cafes packed today?" He wondered aloud. "That's because it's national pie week." Came a voice from beside him, causing the boy to look at the owner of the voice to find Cole. "Wh-what?" He asked and Cole chuckled. "It's a mini holiday we have around here. Every place that sells pie will be giving it away for the week." He explained and Jay nodded in understanding. "Wait, how-?" Jay started up. "Your accent gives away a lot." Cole said, cutting him off. Jay blushed in embarrassment. "Yeah, should have known."
"Either way, I got a table over there. You caught me while coming back from the bathroom. I'd be pleased to have some company if you still want a spot to sit." Cole offered and Jay smiled. "Sure, I... I'm Jason, but everyone calls me Jay." Jay replied and Cole smiled. "Coleman, but I prefer Cole.... And I'll call you Blue-Jay." He said and Jay's eyes widened in surprise as his new friend lead him to the table.
Once they sat, Jay looked to Cole. "Um... So... Uh... Do you have any advice? Like uh, any other surprise mini holidays I should know about. I mean... This is the first time I've left my country...." Jay said and Cole chuckled a bit. "What are you even doing here? You know, what brings you to the country?" Cole asked as he sipped from his coffee. "Oh, I'm studying abroad here at Ninjago University, so I'm here on a student visa." Jay answered him and Cole nodded. "I see, so I'll need to explain the holidays you'll be in countering while here." Cole replied as the waitress came over.
"Okay, what would you like to eat Mr. Hence? Oh, and who is the cutie lice of cherry pie sitting across from you?" The waitress said, adding the question as she looked Jay up and down. Cole chuckled and looked to Jay. "What are you gonna say, huh?" He said and Jay opened and closed his mouth. "A-ah-actualy.... I... Um.. My name is Jason, but... Uh... I actually... Um... don't fish in that pond if you get what I mean?" Jay said nervously and the waitress frowned. "Just as they say, all the cute ones are either taken or gay." She said, obviously upset at Jay's admission.
"Either way, why don't you get my friends order here for his drink and we'll get our food orders later." Cole said and the waitress nodded. Jay looked to Cole. "What do you suggest?" He asked and Cole chuckled. "Depends on what you're looking for." He said and Jay thought. "I have school in an hour and a half, so I need something to keep me awake." He replied. "Give him, uhh....... Oh! The Sunday special!" Cole said and the waitress nodded with a smirk before walking away.
Once the waitress walked away, Cole looked to Jay with a womanizing smirk. "So, you're gay?" He asked in a flirtatious tone. "I... Uh... Yes..." Jay answered with a blush. "Oh? Then, how's about I take you out on the town when you're free next? I can give you a tour of the city, explain our culture, show you all the best spots, and maybe show you some... tricks... I know?" Cole proposed with a wink and Jay's face grew bright red. "I... Uh... Um... Uh... I... Um... M-mey.... Mu... Uh... Th-th-that sounds... Uh.. Nice? No... Uh... I mean... I'd l-like that, I just... Um..." Jay stuttered and Cole grinned. Cole then grabbed a pin out of his pocket and wrote his number on a napkin before sliding it to Jay. "Just text me what your free days are and I can find a clear spot in my schedule." Cole said with a grin.
Jay smiled and folded the napkin, putting it in his pocket. "S-s-so, um..." Jay tried to stutter out. "What is it cutie?" Cole asked with a smirk and Jay blushed up more. "Uh... I just... Uh, Do you know any trustable apartments? I'm, uh... Living out of a hotel right now." Jay asked and Cole grinned with an excited glint in his eye. "You could stay with me. I don't have a spare room, but I don't mind sharing a bed if you don't." He offered and Jay blushed more deeply. "Uh, um... Let me think on that?" He said and Cole nodded. "Sure, how about you think on it at school today and I can pick you up after? You can give me your final response then." He proposed with a smile and Jay seemed to think. "How about I give you that answer when we meet up?" He offered and Cole bit. "Alright, sounds reasonable."

Nya smiled as she walked across the NU campus and spotted Jay. "Hey, Jay!" She called out and he looked to her from where he was going up some steps. "Ah, Nya! Pleasure to see you again." He responded as Nya approached. "Why didn't you tell me about pie week?" He asked and Nya chuckled. "I forgot it was getting so close. I grew up out in the boondocks so our cafes and what not don't get so packed. I had no clue it'd be so popular here." She responded and Jay nodded. "I see, now let's get to class." He said as she walked beside him. "By the way, I just heard from from Jamie. She said that she heard from Kelsey Kinns that Professor Kinns is apparently in a very bad mood today so you need to keep your muttering to a minimum. As in a negative minimum?" Nya said while they walked inside the building.
"Nya, you are an awesome friend, but I can't control the muttering. I've explained this before. It's part of my OCD." Jay said as he lifted his right hand up to run through his hair in distress. "I do it without even noticing more than half the time." He added and Nya chuckled. "I know, but you need to keep an eye on yourself today Jay. Professor Kinns obviously doesn't like you just because you're from Serpenhime. Which, by the way, is stupid, racist, bigettod, and just all kinds of wrong." She stressed and Jay chuckled. "That, you're right about." He said and reagusted his messenger bag.
"Oh! Also, I want to invite you to my place for dinner. I'm making some good old fashioned fried chicken, corn, and pot pottoe pie. You'll be able to meet my brother too!" Nya said and Jay reaised a brow. "What? He's a cop. A class 'A' detective more like it really." She said with a chuckle. "Either way, he knows more about the city then I do since he's been in the city for a few years." She added and Jay smiled with a blush. "Actually, I met someone in town today and plan to meet up with them." He said and Nya smiled. "Oh? What's her name?" She asked, causing Jay to clam up and take off ahead of her.

Kai drove up to the Garmadon mansion and knocked on the door. Garmadon opened up the door and welcomed the officer in. "Got anything new on my Misako?" He asked as the two men walked through the house. "Not much. There isn't much evidence around the scene. Whoever did this knows what their doing." Kai explained. "Trust me, I want to find the son of a bitch that kidnapped your wife. Misako was a second mother to me. There is no way I'm letting this case go cold. No way in hell." He said as they sat in the parlor.
"So, their is nothing you can find? At all? No suspects even?" Garmadon asked and Kai shook his head. "All your known enemies have solid alabies and there was no DNA or fingerprints at the scene, save from Misako's before." Kai said as he let his head hang. "I promise you, I will bring you your wife back. You and Misako gave me everything when I had nothing, so I will do anything to protect you and your family." He stressed as Garmadon rubbed his chin. "Thank you for your help, Kai." He said and Kai just sat back in his seat.
"How's Lloyd taking it?" Kai asked and Garmadon sighed. "Surprisingly calm." He answered and Kai raised a brow. "Every time I ask he just goes on about much faith he has in you to bring back Misako. That boy trusts you and your abilities wholely. I've never seen this before." Garmadon explained and Kai chuckled. "Yeah, you know we spend a lot of time together." Kai said with a smile. "He honestly seems to be looking for excuses to spend time with me to. I'm not sure he has friends his own age at this point." He added.
"It's a good thing you're such a good then at least. I know my son is in good hands." Garmadon said with a smile. "Come now, you know better then that Garmadon." Kai said with a chuckle. "I know, but I know you wouldn't dare corrupt my child Kai. You might be crooked, but I know you taint anyone else. You have to good a heart for that." Garmadon said and Kai smiled. "I know, and I promise, once again, to bring her back." Kai said before leaving.

Kai growled as he sat in the chair at his office, staring at a large cork board that was filled with notes, pictures, and all sorts of stuff that told the story of their case on Misako's disappearance with different colors of yarn connecting everything.
An officer came over and knocked while opening the door to Kai's office. "Detective Kai?" The officer said, causing Kai to look to him. "Officer Scott, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Kai asked, his old accent coming out due to his frustration, and the man pressed his lips. "Uh, well, Mr. Freatz wants to see you." He said before walking out and Kai sighed while letting his hand fall on the desk before standing up.
"Mr. Freatz?" Kai said as he knocked on an office door and the man looked up from his computer. "Detective Smith, please come in and have a seat."
Kai took a seat in one of the chairs in front of Mr. Freatz's desk. "So, Chris, what do ya want me for?" Kai asked and Mr. Freatz tapped away on his PC while looking at Kai. "Tell me what's going on with the Garmadon case." Mr. Freatz said before turning to the screen. "Nothing useful, Sir. I finally managed to get the security tapes from the parking lot and surrounding buildings last night and went over them earlier, but all I could make out was an adult male that took her. Based off what I saw, he used chloroform, but I couldn't make out who he was. He drove one of those 'kidnapper vans' you see in all the movies, but the plates on the back belong to a sweat little prius owned by one Jasmin Prince who reported that her plates were stolen several months ago. I sent the tapes to the lab techs, to look over. Hopefully they can get more off it then I can." Kai reported. "I already put all this in my notes and turned them in to the case file a little while ago.
Mr. Freatz sighed and shook his head. "I hope you know how important this case is Detective Smith." He said and Kai glared. "No offense Sir, but you couldn't even imagine finding a detective more dedicated to this case then me." Kai started, his tone full of anger and his old accent coming on thick in his anger. "I owe the Garmadon's my life Sir. Garmadon himself picked me up when I was at an all time low and is the very reason I turned my talents to detective work in the first damn place. Him and his wife are second parents to me. I love them more then my own folks in fact. So don't ever doubt my drive on this case again Sir." He ranted and Mr. Freatz sighed.
"I don't mean any harm Detective Smith. I was just making sure. Mrs. Garmadon is an important citizen and is in danger." Mr. Freatz said while raiseing his hands. "We are talking about the royal family here."
Kai sighed. "Yeah, I know. Me and Garmadon kept begging her to take at least one bodyguard with her whenever she went to work, but no. She's safe and can protect herself!" He said in frustration. "Protect herself my ass." He added and Mr. Freatz ran a hand through his hair. "Let me know if the techs find anything of use." Mr. Freatz said and Kai stood. "I will sir." He said, his country accent going away now that he'd calmed a bit.
When Kai headed back to his office he was stopped by another officer. "Detective Kai!" The officer called out while walking towards him. "What is it Jessica?" Kai asked while turning into the break room. "Darkly's Prep just called. Apparently Prince Lloyd Garmadon is in some sort of trouble and his father isn't picking up. Your name is on Lloyd's file as an emergency contact and there is a note that gives you permission to act as a guardian?" She said as she followed Kai, who made a cup of coffee. "Seriously? What trouble is that brat in this time?" He said and Jessica shrugged. "Didn't ask. They just said that they need you." She replied and Kai sighed. "Alright, I'll go to the school, now go back to work." He said before downing his coffee and going to his office where he grabbed his keys and left for his car.
~°~
When Kai pulled into the school, he went to the office where Lloyd sat in the lobby with a black eye and a couple bruises. On the other end sat a boy with similar injuries and two adults around him that were most likely his parents.
"What did you do?" Kai asked as he sat beside Lloyd, fixing his tie as he gave the teen a look. "I got in a fight." Lloyd replied with his head down and a quiet voice. "Wanna tell me what happened?" Kai asked and Lloyd shrugged. "No one believes me anyways." Replied the blond and Kai grabbed his chin, making Lloyd look at him. "Since when have I ever doubted you? Huh? What do I always say?" He said while starting into Lloyd's eyes. "That your always on my side." Lloyd replied as he stared back.
"Good, now tell me what happened. I know you. I know when your lying and when you're not, so you know I'll believe you when you're telling the truth. No matter what." Kai said and Lloyd gave a small smile with a mini blush that was barely noticeable. "He was talking shit about mom, okay? I over heard him saying she probably took off with another man or some shit. He was saying horrible things about her that were loads of bullshit, so I told him to shut the fuck up, but he pushed me so I pushed him and then... You get the rest." Lloyd told him and Kai sighed. "Who threw the first punch?" He asked and Lloyd looked to the side. "I did, but only because he called mom a slut."
"Alright, principal Jameson will see you all now." A receptionist said to both parties and Kai patted Lloyd's shoulder.
"Come on bud." He said and Lloyd nodded as they stood to walk into the principal's office.
The Principal sat at his desk while glancing over the room. Kai and Lloyd sat on the loveseat to the side while the other boy and his parents were to the other side of the room. The boy and his mother sat in the two chairs while the father stood.
"Where are that monsters actual parents?" The father asked while glaring at Kai. "Mrs. Garmadon has disappeared incase you haven't been watching the news and Mr. Garmadon is very busy. I am a close family friend that is trusted to act as Lloyd's legal guardian when they are unable." Kai explained calmly.
"Well I guess we know how this happened then. The Garmadons don't even know how to raise a kid. No wounder they raised such a violent brat." The wife said while flipping her hair and Kai glared. "Excuse me? Don't you dare insult the Garmadons! Lloyd is a perfectly behaved young man." Kai said, standing as his eyes narrowed in. "Oh, please! That boy has been in this office so many times." The husband said with an exasperated sigh. "And how would you know?" Kai countered. "Because everyone in school talks about it." Said the boy.
"Lloyd only ever fights in either self defense or the defense of another. Thats why he's never actually in trouble. He is perfectly well behaved." Kai defended. "Oh? Really? Then explain why he attacked our son. I'm a lawyer you know." The father said and Kai clicked his tung. "He was provoked by your child. Besides according to Lloyd your boy made the first move." Kai said and the mother scoffed. "Please, Lloyd made the first punch." She said and Kai smirked. "Doesn't matter mam. I am an officer of the law and the law says a push counts as an assault and your son pushed Lloyd first, so Lloyd can claim self defense." He said she stuck her nose in the air. "According to our son, Lloyd pushed first." The father claimed and Kai looked to him. "Then let's check the security footage." Kai said before looking to the Principal.
"Alright." The principal said before going on his computer and bringing up the footage. He turnd the screen to face the others and played the footage. The tape picked up right were Lloyd pushed the other boy and Kai glared at the principal. "No way, I want the whole scenario. Not just that. Roll it back ten minutes. NOW." Kai demanded and the principal rolled his eyes. "Look, Llloyd obviously lied to you. This footage obviously shows he was the aggressor." Said the man and Kai glared. "No it doesn't. You're obviously leaving an important part out! I ain't stupid, I know what's what! Now you roll back that damn tape or I'll arrest you here an now for conspiracy to wrongfully terminate a student, and don't think I won't cuz I'm on duty right now you selfish ass." Kai said, his accent slipped out in his rant and the Principal gulped before rolling the footage back to reveal the other boy pushing Lloyd first.
Kai then crossed his arms. "Now I believe we're done here. I want this footage sent to my email here..." He said while writing his email down on a post it note. "Send it to me now. I'm not leaving this office until you send it. I want to check and make sure I get the whole damn thang cuz I don't trust you no more." He said and the principal complied. "This is rediculous!" The wife cried and Kai glared at her. "No mam, what's rediculous is the fact that you raised a son that would dare acuse Mrs. Misako Garmadon of being unfaithful and a slut, especially right in front of her son! He doesn't even seem apologetic about it! Why don't you get a damn shrink for your fucking son?" Kai growled out while Lloyd sat back and watched with a grateful smile, glad Kai was on his side.
When Kai received the email, he checked the video to make sure it had everything he needed before walking towards Lloyd. "Now leave Lloyd alone. I believe we're done here." He said as he motioned for Lloyd to stand and walked out with him. "I'll be checking Lloyd out for the day."
