Chapter 15: Electric Blue Orchids
Jay sat in the city library with his laptop when Cole walked over and sat beside him. "What is my amazing boyfriend up to?" Cole asked as he put an arm over his shoulder. "I'm sorry, I remember you asking me out on several dates that I do admit to agreeing to, but I do not remember you asking me to date you." Jay said with a playful smirk as he typed away on his PC.
"Ouch, I believed we had something going." Cole said and Jay snickered. "Well, try properly asking." He said and Cole laughed a bit. "Alright, alright." He said and kissed Jay's cheek. "Will you be my boyfriend?" He asked and Jay looked to him. "Not good enough." He said before turning back to his PC and Cole gapped at him. "Not good enough?" He asked in exasperation.
"What? It in no way counts if I have to prompt you Cole!" Jay responded and Cole sighed. "Why must you make being in love so difficult? Plus, why does being officially ask matter so much? Plenty of people start going out every day without either one asking officially." Cole argued and Jay gave him a look. "Quick tip. If you love me so much then try learning about my culture." Jay said as he grabbed his bag and PC, leaving the table for one further away.
Cole groaned as he sat back in his chair and watched him walk away with a huff. He then pulled out his phone and called Kai. "Hey buddy... I was just wondering... Uh... You wouldn't happen to know anything about Serpentine dating culture, would you? ..... Yes, this is about Jay.... What do you mean I'm on my own?! What happened to being buds? Fuck you man." Cole then hung up and glanced over at Jay before getting up and going to the front desk.
"Got any books on the culture in Serpenhime?" Cole asked the librarian, who pointed in a direction. "Shelves seven 'H' through seven 'N' over there." She said without looking up and Cole backed away. "Thanks." He said and went to the section she pointed out and looked through the books, pulling out the ones most relevant and went to sit by Jay and started reading while muttering about feeling like a nerd.
"Can you at least tell me what you're up to?" Cole asked after a bit. "I'm hacking." Jay said and Cole raised his brows. "Damn, and I thought you were a good boy." Cole said with a smirk. "What are you hacking anyway?" He asked.
"Hacking into the security cameras around the city. Kai gave me a photo of that Samukai guy. He doesn't have enough to do a city wide search on him yet, but that doesn't stop me from using facial recognition software to find the bastard and track his movements." Jay explained and Cole smiled. "You are the hottest nerd on the planet." He said and Jay rolled his eyes with a smile before going back to work.
After a bit Cole looked back up from the books. "Seriously? It's illegal to sleep with someone you're not married to?" Cole asked and Jay chuckled. "Not anymore. King Cliff got rid of that law, but the culture is still ingrained through out the entire country." Jay said with a small chuckle and Cole nodded before reading again, only to look back up at Jay a few minutes later.
"Wait, not only are you not allowed to call me boyfriend unless I formally ask, but I also have to give you the flower of your house crest and in your house color? On top of that, it says that a woman needs her father or another male family members permission. That I get, a lot of cultures have rules like that, but what is this about hermies?" Cole said in confusion and Jay chuckled. "Hermies or hermy is a derogatory name slash slag, it depends on where in the country you are, for a hermaphrodite. Someone with functional male and female reproductive organs. Most have very androgynous figures and will often identify as male to give themselves more freedoms. My country is still archaic when it comes to woman's rights unfortunately." Jay explained.
"Got it..." Cole said and Jay looked to him. "Cole... I'm a hermy." He admitted and Cole's eyes widened. "Y-you are?" He asked in surprise. "Yeah, I'm a type omega hermaphrodite." Jay said as he sat back in his chair. "Type omega?" Cole asked. "My anatomy structure. On the outside I'm completely male, but I have ovaries and everything else needed for being a baby incubator inside. It's all connected to my... anus." Jay explained and Cole smiled. "So... You can get knocked up by being the sub during anul sex?" He asked and Jay nodded. "Yes, yes I can. It's a rare genetic trate but my mom was a carrier and I guess it was bred into my dad's side without anyone realizing." Jay said and Cole nodded.
"This doesn't change how you view me, does it?" Jay asked and Cole shook his head. "No. It does make me happy to know more about you though....." Cole said, trailing off as he realized something. "Wait... I need permission from your dad, but he's dead." Cole said and Jay chuckled again. "No, you need my big brother's permission because our folks are dead, but one problem." He said and Cole looked a bit worried.
"What's the problem? Jay, what's the problem?" Cole asked and Jay started tapping his finger. "There is no way you are getting my brother's permission. He had been way to overprotective since our parents died. You could be a high class doctor or lawyer with a squeaky clean record and he'd still come up with an excuse to say no." Jay answered and Cole sighed. "Ah, fuck." He said while rubbing his hand down his face.
"Which is why if you go through with the other part, I'll still say yes. We aren't in Serpenhime right now after all. Just give me an electric blue phalaenopsis orchid and actually be romantic when you ask and I'll be happy." Jay said with a smile and Cole grinned. "You made me do all this reading for that?" He asked and Jay shrugged. "I was testing your dedication." He said with a flirtatious smile. "Oh? And how is this for dedication?" Cole asked before kissing him. The two kissed a bit more before Jay's computer started beeping.
Jay looked and grinned. "Got a hit on an ATM camera." He said and Cole looked at the screen. "Yeah, that's definitely him. When was this taken?" He said and Jay started typing. "Two days ago, but I'm bound to pick him up again." He said and Cole grinned. "Good, but why are you doing this in the library? I mean... This is illegal." He said and Jay bit his lip. "No internet at my apartment." He said and Cole nodded. "You could still move in with me. That offer is still open. It always will be." Cole said and Jay chuckled.
"I'll think about it, but I won't start asking until I see my orchid." Jay replied and Cole sighed. "You are so damn difficult." He said and Jay chuckled. "Haven't you known this from the start?" He asked and Cole laughed. "I love you." He said and kissed Jay's cheek.

Cole waited outside Jay's apartment late in the day with the radio on and smiled when he saw Jay walking out.
Jay wore black skinny jeans, an electric blue button up, black combat boots, and a dark midnight blue leather jacket that appeared almost black. He smiled as we walked towards Cole's hummer. Cole leaned across the seats to push the passenger side door open and Jay gave him a look when he saw him leaning and Cole sighed before getting out and walking around to open the door. "I swear you're more of a girl then any of my sisters." Cole said and Jay ignored the comment as he kissed Cole's cheek. "Such a gentleman." He said playfully.
Cole then got in and started the vehicle. "You are lucky I love you, you know that?" Cole asked and Jay just grinned as he gave the man a once over, noting Cole's orange V-neck that hugged his torso and showed off his eight pack abbs and chiseled chest, his biker boots with orange laces, black torn up jeans that looked like they'd been through the ringer, and a black leather jacket with biker gloves.
Jay's eyes lingered on Cole's chest. "And I'm lucky on other points as well." He said with a smile and Cole smirked as he glanced at him. "Like what you see?" He asked and Jay chuckled. "I'll admit it. I think that's my favorite shirt on you." He said and Cole chuckled.
"You sure you don't want to lay in my bed Jay?" Cole asked and Jay rolled his eyes. "Nice try, but there are some customs of my homeland I do not plan to act against." Jay said and Cole shrugged. "I tried."

Cole pulled his hummer up to the top of a cliff out of town that overlooked a large lake. "Why are we here?" Jay asked and Cole just smiled at him before getting out of the hummer after unlocking the trunk.
Cole set up a nice little picnic blanket near the cliff edge and set down a lantern in the middle as Jay walked over. "A picnic?" He asked as he sat down and Cole chuckled. "What? I've never seriously dated before and picnics are considered romantic last I checked, though this is not a picnic." He said and Jay just smiled.
"Plus, look." Cole said as he pointed to the water. Jay looked to see the sun setting over it and his mouth opened in awe. "Oh my gosh... Cole... This is beautiful." He said and Cole smiled as he watched Jay.
"Jason." Cole said when the sunset ended. "Yes?" Jay responded before turning to look at Cole to see him holding the bouquet of electric blue phalaenopsis orchids with a smile. "Jason, whatever your middle name is, Walker, which is a stand in since you won't tell me your real last name, will you allow me to court you?" Cole asked and Jay brought his hands over his mouth as he grinned and held back a laugh before taking the flowers and kissing him.
"Now that I think about it, why the hell am I in love with a guy who won't tell me his real last name?" Cole asked with a smile and Jay crawled into his lap, throwing his arms around Cole's neck. "Trust me Cole, it's safer for both of us if you don't know." He said and kissed Cole's cheek.
"Are you sure I can't know?" Cole asked and Jay nodded. "Not for now at least. I'll tell you one day, but not right now. My brother had to use a different last name to. Different from the one I'm using even so we can't be easily linked to each other." He said as he leaned his head on Cole's shoulder. "What are you and your brother mixed up in?" Cole asked in concern. "Easy, hiding from the people who killed our parents." Jay said and Cole held onto him, pulling him in closely.
"I love you, I really do." Cole said as he held Jay. "I know, and I love you too." Jay said as he buried his face into the crook of Cole's neck. "Cole?" Jay said and Cole hummed. "My lease is monthly and ends this weekend." Jay said and Cole pulled him out of his neck and looked at him. "Does that mean..." Cole questioned and Jay smiled. "Yes, I'll move in with you." He said and Cole kissed him deeply.
The two then layed back on the blanket and looked at the stars while talking about random little things.

Jay had just finished moving his stuff into Cole's place and getting things rearranged to acomodate him living there now too when his cell phone went off and he checked the caller ID while Cole was doing the cupid shuffle in the living room as a mini celebration.
Cole turned off the radio and looked to Jay. "Who is it babe?" He asked as he walked over. "It's my brother, so I need you to be as silent as possible. Okay?" He said and Cole nodded as Jay picked up the call. "Hey, Pythor! What are you calling about?" Jay said as he walked to the fridge in the kitchen to grab a bottle of soda. "Wait, how do you know my lease ended?" Jay said, sounding annoyed, and Cole looked over with raised eye brows from where he was grabbing a glass cup from the cabinets.
"Pythor, what the hell made you think you had the right to keep track of my credit card statements? And don't you give me that shit about the laws again. I might me a hermy, but I'm class omega and class omega's at my age have full legal right to act against their guardians. You aren't even my guardian right now. Ed is." Jay said as he walked to the counter with his bottle and tried to open it with his phone between his ear and his shoulder.
"Just shut up Pythor. I moved in with someone to afford a better place.... I am not tapping into that.... You know why I don't want to!" Jay began to raise his voice and Cole looked on in concern. Jay then suddenly looked pissed before screaming something in his native language and hanging up.
"Are you alight?" Cole asked and Jay nodded. "Yeah, yeah... I just... I just cussed out my brother is all. Everything will be aye-okay." He said and Cole nodded. "Whatever you say."
Jay then took a sip from his soda and went into the living room to fall back on the couch. "I just... I know he's looking out for me, but he's suffocating me. I'll admit I can be nieeve, but he thinks I'm completely dumb to the way the world works and it pisses me off. Every time I try to talk to him about it, he shuts me down. What do I do?" Jay said and Cole sat beside him with a glass of grape juice. "Not sure. I've never been in your situation, but I'm sure things will work themselves out one day." Cole tried to reassure him.
"Now, why don't we get your mind off things?" Cole suggested as he set his glass on the coffee table and Jay followed suit with his bottle. "How exactly?" He asked and Cole pulled him into his lap. "How about watching your favorite movie? I found a copy thats dubbed in my language so I can watch it with you and be able to understand what's going on." Cole said and Jay grinned before kissing him, pushing Cole down on the couch as he did so before they calmed to watch the movie.
