Chapter 3
Jessica's POV
I unlocked the front door of the house and entered, letting Max in after me. After I closed it, we removed our shoes and left our bags in the living room, then went to the kitchen.
I went to the fridge and opened it."You hungry?"I asked as I roamed through it for something to eat.
"Nah, I am good."he said.
I nodded and closed the fridge, then went to take two apples and tossed one of them to him."Thanks."he said and bit on it.
He was sitting on the table, so I just sat across from him as we ate our apples.
"So, what's the deal with this Tobias guy?"Max asked as he bit on the apple again.
"What do you mean?"I asked as I bit into mine.
He bit into the apple again."He's following you everywhere like a lost puppy."Max said.
"He's new and he doesn't have any friends."I told him and bit into my apple."And don't talk with full mouth."I said as I talked with my mouth full.
He chuckled."Okay ma'am."he said and got up to throw the core of the apple in the bin. I did the same and then we walked upstairs in my room.
We started writing our homework as we spoke."I think this guy isn't good."Max suddenly spoke.
"Who?"I asked, looking at him. He was laying on his stomach in front of me, while I was leaning against the headboard.
He looked up at me."Tobias."he said and I sighed.
"Are we still talking about him?"I asked and noticed that it's becoming dark."Why are you still in my house, buy the way?"I asked."Why did you come in the first place?"I asked and he shrugged.
"Felt like it, I guess,"he said and took his phone out to check the time."It's like 6 p.m. I should probably go home,"Max said and rolled on his back, then looked at me again."Or I should stay in case this creep finds your address and wants to hang out with you?"Max asked.
I gasped."Max!"I said."That's not nice!"I said.
"You really think-"he was cut off by the bell.
Max and I looked at each other and then stood up and walked downstairs.
We walked to the front door and Max opened it."What are you doing here?"Max asked.
"I, um...I am new in the neighborhood and my mom wanted me to bring some biscuits to the neighbors."Tobias said.
"Awww...That's so sweet, Tobias."I said. He handed me the biscuits and I took them, then stepped back to Max.
He rubbed the back of his neck."W-Well, I should be going now. My mom wants me to deliver some more,"he said and removed the hand from his pocket, sticking both of them in his jean pockets."I will see you tomorrow at school?"he asked.
"Sure thing!"I said as I went to hold the door."See you tomorrow!"I told him.
"Bye Jessie."Tobias said.
I send him a smile and he gave one back, then turned around and walked away. I closed the door and turned to Max, who was looking at me."Since when is he calling you 'Jessie'?"he asked."I thought only friends call you that."Max said. I rolled my eyes.
"He's a friend, Max."I told him.
He shook his head."I am so staying here until your parents come back."Max said.
I sighed and walked to the kitchen."They aren't coming. They went to Grandma Maya and Grandpa Ray for two days."I told him as I put the biscuits on the counter.
Max walked in behind me."When is Sam coming home then?"he asked, crossing his arms in front of his chest from next to me.
"Tomorrow after school. He's at Luke's. They are making some project."I told him.
I took one biscuit from the many Tobias brought. They looked good.
As I was gonna bite from it, Max took it and threw it in the bin."Hey!"I protested as he closed the bin."What are you doing!?"I asked, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
"You don't know what he put in them."Max said.
"W-What he put in them!? They are home-made cookies his mother made!"I said, angrily.
"You don't know for sure."Max said. I sighed.
"So, you are staying home alone?"he asked after some seconds of silence.
"Yes."I said, not looking at him but at the door of the kitchen.
"You are gonna sleep at mine."Max said.
I snapped my head towards him."What!? Why?"I asked.
"You aren't staying here alone with this guy a few houses down from yours."Max said, not looking at me, but at the door.
"You are not my father, you know?"I told him."And I can take care of myself."I added and then stormed up to my room.
Max's POV
I watched as Jessica stormed out of the kitchen. I sighed. Can't she just understand that I am concerned about her? I have a really bad feeling about this guy and I don't trust him around Jessica.
After a while Jessica came with two bags, one of them my bag. She handed it to me and turned off all lights, then we left the house.
