Chapter 20
Three Days Later
Max's POV
No one has come to take my powers away yet. They've been feeding us, but I ate almost nothing.
My mind is full of thoughts about my friends. Did they know that it wasn't me back with them? Or was he still unnoticed? What if he's hurt them? He's hurt Em? Jess?
First Spinjitzu Master, I'm prying that they're okay.
Jessica's POV
Max has been pretty weird the past three days. In fact, since he fought with that guy that looked like him.
I brushed my hair in the morning as the others were getting ready.
"Guys," I spoke. "Does Max seem a bit ... odd to you?"
"Odd like?" Emma asked.
"I mean, he's as if he's never been in here before," I told them. "And when I ask him certain things, he doesn't know how to answer them. Or when I bring up old memories, he seems like he doesn't know what I'm talking about."
"Maybe he's shaken up from the attack?" Anna suggested.
"I don't think that's it..." I said quietly.
The girls left to go and eat breakfast, while I stayed behind. What could be possibly wrong with Max? He can't be shaken up from the attack, can he? He's a tough guy....
I shook my head and stood up. Walking towards the dining room, I passed the boy's room.
Someone was speaking inside and I stopped to listen.
"No, I haven't been caught yet," Max's voice said. "No, I can't just abduct someone now! It's morning, I'll be caught in seconds.....Okay, I'll do it tonight." he said.
My eyes widened with realization.
This was not Max.
It's the imposter.
I opened the door, startling 'Max', who was sitting down on his bed.
"Jessica, what are you doing here?" he asked, standing up.
I didn't answer. Instead, I kicked him in the shin, causing him to fall on the ground. I kicked him again so he was laying on his front, grabbed one of his arms and twisted it. He whimpered.
"Who are you and where is Max?" I yelled at him.
Mere seconds later, everyone was at the door.
"Jessica, what's going on!?" Sam asked me.
"Guys, this isn't Max," I told them. "It's the impostor."
"Impostor?" asked Emma, confused.
"I'll explain later," I told them. "For now, help me tie him up.
I stood up and Sam and Luke took over. They picked up the trashing impostor and started leading him to the dining room.
"Guys! What are you doing!?" he asked them. "It's me! It's Max! The real one!"
Nobody listened to him. Anna brought a chair and the guys put him down, then we tied his ankles to the chair legs and his hands behind his back, along with his middle to the back of the chair.
"You're a shapeshifter," I said. "Reveal yourself."
"But I'm not! I'm Max!" he protested.
"Jessie, what if it is Max-"
"No he's not!" I almost yelled. "I heard him over the phone, he's going to abduct someone!" I told them.
"It's over, whoever you are," Sam said. "Reveal yourself."
The guy sighed. "Fine," he said and changed his shape. I almost puked.
Tobias. Tobias is the impostor.
"Y-You-But-But-" I choked on my words. "Why?"
"I had no choice!" he said. "He-He has my sister, I had to! If I didn't follow his commands he was going to kill her!"
"His commands?" asked Luke. "Who's he?"
"You wouldn't know him," Tobias said, shaking his head. "Your parents would. They knew each other, they were enemies."
My eyes were still scanning him when I noticed the white bandage on his arm.
"Wait," I said. "You were the one that attacked me the first time?" I asked.
He nodded guiltily.
"God," I said.
"You were the one that raided our house!" Sam said.
"So Max was right," Ben said.
"Max knew!?" I asked.
"He suspected," Luke told me.
I turned back to Tobias. "Where is Max?" I asked.
"In His lair," Tobias said. "With your parents."
"What are they doing to him?" I asked.
Tobias gulped.
Max's POV
Two of the black soldier dudes came in after a few days of absence. I don't even know how long I've been here at this point, there're no windows to tell.
The two came to my cage and one snapped his fingers, casing the bars of my prison to disappear. The entered and grabbed both my arms, holding them behind my back.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked, trying not to show them I was panicking.
"Hey! Let my son go!" I heard dad yell, but the two guys ignored him.
"Dad! What's going on!?" I yelled, panic obvious in my voice.
Dad didn't say anything, but somebody else spoke.
"They're gonna take your powers..." Jay said. I turned my head to the left to see him staring at me.
"What!?" I asked.
"Hey, it's gonna be okay," Dad assured me. "It might hurt a bit, alright? Just stay strong!" he yelled the last part, then the doors behind us closed.
It's short but it's an update. Hope it isn't too bad.
