The Mother of Nightmares
"What do you call them? Nightmares?" Amaya's soft voice echoed in the library. She was thumbing through books on dreams as Thomas paced back and forth.
"For the most part, yes." Thomas answered, biting his knuckle. "Sometimes they feel like a bad omen... like a prophetic dream..."
Amy shook her head and closed the book she was skimming through. "You won't succumb to the darkness. You're strong, Thomas, and pure of heart... And should that time come, you'll know what the right decision is."
Thomas remained silent.
"Tommy?" Amy touched his shoulder.
He shut his eyes and exhaled. "There's a woman."
"A woman?"
"In my dreams." He clarified. "She speaks exactly as I do, a little more shrill and raspy, but she sounds just like me..." He paused. "...She claims to be my mother."
"Your mother? Wh-what does she look like?"
"She doesn't reveal herself until I wake up, but when I do see her..." He let out a shaky breath. "She looks exactly like me. Bright green eyes, dark hair, dark skin. She's tall and terrifying, and she looks at me as if she's disappointed..."
"And then..?"
"She stops. Then she lifts her hands and screams and her eyes glow bright red... and these multicolored auras of energy surround me..." Thomas rubbed his head. "I wake up with a piercing headache every night I dream about her. It's horrifying.."
Amaya hugged him gently. "You're crying.."
Thomas sniffed. "I'm so scared, Amy. My dad thinks I'm fine, but god, I'm so scared..."
"You need to tell him." She spoke softly. "You've been fighting this for too long. It's time to get some help."
"What about you?" Thomas pulled away from her arms. "You're experiencing the same problem as me."
"I wouldn't say our dreams are the same, but... I'll mention mine to your dad too." Amy smiled at him before gathering a few books. "We should get to reading."
Thomas nodded and cracked open a book. "Hey, Amy. Do you give good relationship advice?"
"Well I don't do relationships, but sure, ask away." She answered, deadpan and her nose in a book.
"Should I ask Micro out? I don't know if he's attracted to me, but I sure as hell am. He's so hard to read, you know?"
"Uh, go for it, shoot for the moon and what not. But you might need a makeover. You kinda look like Harry Potter if he was a ninja dressed in green and had giant bird legs."
"What in the hell are giant bird legs?" Thomas snapped, blushing.
Amaya snorted. "Long, skinny, what you have. You know."
Tommy fluffed his hair a bit and frowned. "A makeover, huh? What do I do? How do I act? Where do I even get this done?"
"There is one person I know, but..."Amaya's smile faltered. "Oh. You may have to talk to her on your own. She's mad at me right now.."
Thomas was about to ask who when Nicolette suddenly burst through the door. "I knew they were in here!" She called out into the hall.
She rushed up to Tommy and Amy and took their hands. "C'mon, the nerd meetings can wait. We're all going to talk as a group!"
Before they could ask any questions, Thomas and Amaya were shoved out of the room and into the hall where the whole team was standing.
Edward smiled. "Damn. I should've known they were in the library. C'mon, guys, we're all gonna have a chat about our powers and shit."
Thomas and Amaya exchanged worried glanced before following Edward and the others.
