Little Sister

Edward approached Amaya the next morning, noticing something was wrong. God, it felt like forever since they last spoke to each other. He studied her carefully before opening his mouth to speak. She looked so tired and anxious.

"Amy? Is everything okay?" He touched her elbow gently, which seemed to startle her. "Hey, whoa, is everything alright...?"

Amy stared at him with wide, dark eyes before shaking her head. "N-No, don't worry about me, Eddy. I'm okay." She turned away, concentrating on whatever it was that took her attention away from the real world.

Tensing up, Edward tugged at her sleeve a little. "Amy, please. I know something's wrong. We haven't talked in so long, just... please. Tell me what's going on."

Amaya pulled her arm away. "Maybe it's a good thing we haven't talked in a while." She snapped. "It was perfectly fine when you weren't in my business."

"Amaya-!" Edward huffed, frustrated. "I don't understand why you're acting like this. If it's about your dreams, then why are you keeping it such a secret? You're the one that told everyone about them! We have a right to know about what's going on with you-"

"Who said this was about my dreams?!" She growled, pushing him off again. "I don't understand why you're all acting like Thomas and I are special or whatever just because we have these dreams. Th-They probably don't even mean anything! Just go away!" She rushed past him and locked herself in her bedroom, the slamming door echoing throughout the hall.

Edward stood in his place, shocked and confused. He shook his head, about to go to his room before he felt a hand touch his shoulder.

"Did she have one of them?" Thomas asked, his voice sounding sleepy and low. Perhaps he had one of those dreams too.

Edward turned around and faced him. "I- uh, I don't know. She looked tired." He noticed the bags under his eyes. "You do too. Rough night?"

He blushed lightly, glancing away. "I... guess you could say that. Dreams, you know." He pushed his glasses up and stared off. "Amaya. Is she alright?"

Edward sighed. "I don't know, man. You'd think I'd know my little sister." He crossed his arms and bit his lip in frustration. "Something's up though; she's scared. You should go talk to her."

Thomas shook his head. "I really think you should. You're siblings. I'm sure you two have some sort of connection."

Edward blinked. "You... really have no idea how siblings work."

Thomas chuckled. "I guess not, but come on, I'm sure she misses you. You haven't spoken in such a long time."

"How do you know that?" Edward asked, raising a brow.

"Our minds are somewhat bridged." Thomas answered, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's a little awkward, mostly because I'm with Micro now and I know a little more about her than I would like to know, but..." He sighed before continuing. "I can't help but notice that she's incredibly lonely. She needs her brother."

Edward frowned, uneasy with the fact that Thomas wouldn't elaborate on the mind-bridging thing. He shook his head and muttered, "Fine. I'll attempt to talk to her, but I'm not sure she'll want to." He walked off to knock on her door.

"What the hell do you want?" Amaya mumbled from behind the door.

"To apologize. I want to talk too, but not about the dreams. I-I miss you."

Amaya opened the door, her face streaked with fresh tears. "Come in." She muttered, plopping back down on her tear-stained pillow.

Edward followed her, closing the door behind him. "... I'm sorry, Amy. I shouldn't have pried, especially about something that's sensitive to you."

"It's not that." She mumbled into the pillow before rolling onto her back, staring at the ceiling. "I don't know how I'm going to tell Thomas..."

Tell him what? Edward wondered, afraid to ask. He placed his hand on hers reassuringly. "I'm sure you can talk to him about anything. He doesn't seem like the type that would get angry about something, er, important."

"I guess." She sighed absentmindedly, pinching at the fabric on her comforter. "But it's about his personal life. Something he's been worried about."

His mother? "Doesn't that make it even more important?"

"It does, and I know I need to tell him." She began to panic. "I'm just so worried about how he'll react." She covered her face, hugging her knees to her chest. "The last thing I want to do is piss off another person because of my poor communication."

"It's gonna be alright, Amy." Edward spoke softly, putting an arm around her. "You don't give yourself enough credit. You've done so much for the team already; all you need to do is tell him. Even if he freaks out, it's still valuable information that needs to get into his hands. You know more about this situation than any of us; it has to be you, sis."

Amaya sniffled, rubbing her eyes before hugging Edward tightly. "That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me."

"Mom and dad call you amazing like, every day."

Amaya laughed. "Besides them." She looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you, Eddy. You're honestly the best brother I could have asked for."

He hugged her back before getting up to leave. "And I don't deserve the best little sister any brother could ask for." He said with a smile. "Now go talk to Thomas. He needs you."
