Children of the Storm

Edward slowly rose up from the pool, grinning as the smooth water gently rushed against his face. He shook the water from his dark curls as he surfaced, pulling himself out of the pool. He dried himself off, the warm afternoon air helping him dry off. He pulled on a t-shirt and sneakers, leaving his swim trunks on; he'd wash up back home.

He locked the door to the swimming center, biking back to his house.

He unlocked the door to the Walker household, deeply inhaling the smell of dinner cooking on the stove. His mother, Nya, was waiting for him inside, giving him a tight hug.

"How was practice?" She asked, reaching up to stroke her son's wet hair.

"It went pretty well." Edward smiled. "I stayed a bit later to get a final swim in and lock up the place. Dinner smells great." He grinned, suddenly feeling hungry.

"That's good to hear. And Amy's making dinner tonight with dad." Nya gestured to the kitchen.

Edward left to grab an apple from the kitchen counter, waving hello to his little sister, Amaya, and his father, Jay.

"What's for dinner, Amy?" Edward asked, hugging his sister.

"Pizza..." Amaya mumbled, chopping vegetables.

"To be more specific, it's flatbread pizza with feta cheese, cucumber, olives..." His father rambled on.

"Chocolate chip cookies for dessert." Amaya cut Jay off quietly. "And there's lemonade..."

Edward nodded and headed upstairs to his room to change.

"Oh, and another thing!" Jay called after him. "Uncle Kai, Aunt Skyl?r, and Ebony are coming over, so you might wanna clean up around here!"

Edward groaned, stomping up to his room. If there was one thing he didn't need tonight, it would be his evil cousin Ebony. He sighed and started getting ready for their visit.

Amaya didn't want to make dinner that night, but she didn't want to let her enthusiastic father down. Even if it did mean thirty minutes of convincing him that bacon and ham wrapped turducken electrified and served over fish was a bad idea.

Her father was attached to her for reasons unknown, which was strange because of their opposite personalities. It was the same way for her brother and her mother; their personalities weren't perfectly matched, yet Nya was attached to Edward more.
Amaya also noticed that her uncle, Kai, was the same way with her cousin, Ebony. It was strange.

Then again, her parents and their friends weren't exactly what you'd call... Normal. They rarely went out all together, the six of them never meeting up for a large group outing. In fact, the only two out of the six that were seen in public often were her parents.

She shrugged it off, trying to focus on making dinner and not let her rambling mind get carried away.
