Human scum
[ Time in which the chapter takes place: The Serpentine War ]
[ Warning: anxiety, gore, killing, setting villages on fire ]
Screams, laments, fire.
Amazing how in ten minutes after the army entered the small, peaceful village, only ash and dead bodies remained. Houses made of straw and bricks were consumed by massive flames, and the inhabitants; mothers with children fled in terror like panicked mice in every possible direction. Men, husbands and fathers threw themselves into battle to defend their homes from cold-blooded, murderous reptiles the color of dark purple, armed to the teeth with indestructible blades.
The Shadow Brigade, under the command of Captain Polaris Chumsworth, one of the sons of Grand General Arcturus, struck first thing in the morning at the village that was the army's target and an obstacle in their path of battle. Polaris stood on a hill not far from where the deadly raid is taking place and watched and listened with dark satisfaction as the village and its inhabitants fell. Next to him, one of the soldiers suddenly appeared out of nowhere and saluted.
- Captain. I inform you that the village has been destroyed and looted, as ordered.
- Excellent work, Corporal Monk. Please make sure that none of the witnesses managed to escape. - Polaris spoke in a calm, cool tone.
- Capture the captives? - Monk asked and raised an eyebrow.
Polaris only smiled and shook his head. - No. We will not play meaningless games with them, humans are expendable. Kill them all.
Monk looked at him in shock. Polaris looked at him out of the corner of his eye and sent him a dangerous smile, making him flinch. - Is there a problem, Corporal? Should I report to General Arcturus that you have a problem following simple orders?
- Erm... No, Captain. I will pass on to the soldiers and follow the order. - Monk answered quickly and disappeared into air. Polaris rolled his eyes softly and went back to admiring the view of chaos with a grin on his face.
[On the battlefield ]
Other Anacondrai Warriors stood guard bound in ropes the group of men whom they had captured and waited for further orders. Monk appeared among them and slowly approached the bound men with a stern expression on his face. He looked at each of them for a moment and then looked at the warriors beside him, who were waiting for his order.
Monk took a breath. - Get rid of them.
The Anacondrai Warriors nodded and shifted their hungry gaze to the helpless humans. They each drew their trusty blade again and slowly approached the men. Monk just stood and with his hands behind his back, watched in disgust as the men screamed in pain, screaming for mercy but it was deafening to the loud hisses of the soldiers and the cracking of bones and the shedding of blood.
Monk swallowed and closed his eyes, turning his head away from the brutal spectacle. The cracking of bones and stifled cries of men echoed like bells in his head with a strong echo. He opened his ruby eyes when everything quieted down and the soldiers and their weapons were all in dark red blood. Their clothes, armor, muzzles, faces and fangs were all in red paint, which only added to their frightening, sickening beauty.
Monk was obedient, but did not like being ordered to kill. But it was the humans who resisted instead of surrendering, which was considered treason. Fortunately, it was only men, not women and children, who fled far beyond the brigade's reach. He was silently grateful for this.
- All dead, corporal. - said one of the warriors in a low, menacing voice. Monk looked at him and nodded.
- Good job. That's it, gather the loot and let's go.
Soldier nodded and the warriors spread out, beginning the looting. Monk was left staring blankly at the dead, slashed, severed limbs from the bodies of the people, which were swimming in a sea of blood. His nose twitched as he smelled the human scent. His eyes looked there in a second and saw a small head looking out from behind the rubble.
A baby.
Monk gasped and after looking around to see if any soldiers were watching him, he quickly walked over to the child, who with fear weeping and looking at the snake terrified.
- Hey, little one. Shhh, take it easy. Don't be afraid. - Monk whispered softly, slowly approaching the child. - Where are your parents? What in the world are you still doing here?
The child did not answer only looked at him with wide-open, frightened eyes and was shaking. To the eye it was a five-year-old boy with brown hair and gray eyes.
- M-my dad... He's gone. - The child said through sobs as tears ran down his cheeks. Monk looked around and reached out his arms to the child to pick him up and carry him. Child embraced him and hugged to his chest, safe behind his armor, and Monk looked around as the child in his arms sobbed hysterically.
- You have to run after your people from here. - Monk said quickly as he ran through the destroyed village. He reached the end where there were human footprints in the snow and set the five-year-old on the ground.
- I ... don't know where to go.
- Follow the footprints. That's where your people will be. Here with me, you are not safe, if you won't run away, they will kill you. Run, run away and never come back. - he whispered quickly as he leaned over to the little boy and fixed his hair and patted his shoulders.
The child pulled his nose and nodded. - Thank you... Angel.
Monk looked at him in shock, before smiling slightly and poking the child with his nose. - No problem. Now, run.
The child turned around and started running through the snow following the footsteps. Monk sighed despondently and turned around to go back to the group. The warriors were already waiting for him in line at attention and stern faces. Monk corrected his shoulder armor. - Soldiers. Let's move out!
- Not so fast, corporal.
Monk stopped at the smooth, calm and dangerous voice. He turned his head and saw Polaris behind him, who was looking at him with a blank, emotionless face.
- You made a very noble move, Corporal Monk. - Polaris admitted as he stopped in front of him and looked at him with superiority. - You helped someone in need, while leaving your people behind. Very good. - He said with sarcasm. Monk shivered with anxiety and fear as the blank stare turned into fury. - Why did you help a human!!?
- I... It was a child, sir. I... I had to.
- You had to. You had to betray your platoon, your own brothers! To help the little monster!!
- I didn't betray anyone, sir! I just... I'm not a murderer. - Monk admitted.
Polaris didn't like that answer and his brows furrowed dangerously as a low growl came from his throat. - So you are weak.
- I am not weak! I have my own rules... I don't murder little innocent children!
- You are weak, Monk. This child you let escape will grow up to be one of those monsters, our enemies, our oppressors! You betrayed your own tribe, your brothers and sisters, your own captain, your own ruler!! - Polaris spat out and his voice contained venom itself, his tail thumped furiously against the stone ground.
- You know what? You are the monster here, not them. You're the one telling us to murder, steal from the dead, burn innocent villages! But I'm done with it... I'm leaving your service! I don't want to live a life full of remorse. I'm not like you. - Monk hissed in his face and took off his breastplate and threw it on the ground.
The soldiers gasped loudly in shock and agitation.
Polaris looked at Monk with contempt. - So this is how you want to end it? Well... I won't stop you. If you don't want to live such a life, then....
Monk groaned in pain and his eyes widened wide as he felt something sharp pierce his chest.
Polaris smiled psychopathically and his eyes had a deadly gleam in them. - You won't have it at all. - He hissed low and ripped the sword from the corporal's chest and let him fall to the ground with a deaf thud.
Polaris smiled broadly, as he looked down at the warrior, who's chocking with his own blood and was looking at him in shock and pain. Tears of fear ran down from the corners of Monk's eyes.
Polaris put his sword in the scabbard at his belt and he looked at the army as he passed the body of fallen corporal like worthless trash. - Don't learn from this traitor. Anyone in my brigade who shows mercy toward these nasty creatures, commonly known as humans, will be killed immediately. The one who crosses me, will pay severely. Understood?
- Sir, yes, sir!
- Good. Let's go!
The brigade, headed by the captain, left the village as the snow began to fall. Monk's hand twitched for a moment longer, then fell completely to the ground as the warrior's soul left his body.
A/N: May the warrior with a heart of gold rest in peace.
What is now shown in this one-shot perfectly demonstrates what kind of commander Polaris was during the war and what kind of monster he already was. Polaris.P.Chumsworth is the best and most evil villain in my entire Ninjago: Missing Siblings series and no one will ever change my mind. It will be a pleasure to write one-shots about him, but also the hard challenge to worthily show you what he is capable of. Each of you, remember, Polaris will never be a good guy, he is a monster who will always find a way to come back.
Thank you for your attention and until the next * I salute and walk away *
