Melancholy
Uhhhhhhh
been a minute ig?
I wrote this on the basis of one of my friends having decided to leave the fandom, and I thought, since she likes the happier ending and fluffy ones more, to try and do a bit of a one.
if this ends up bad, I apologise, I haven't properly written in like 2-3 years.
Thank you, I hope you enjoy.

It's funny.
How so long can go by, years in the making where you think everything is alright.
And then it isn't.
Even after asking her to be his Yang, he knew, he knew that life wouldn't throw him the curveball he wanted.
It never did when it came to them two.
Firstly was dealing with a fire.... Lava.... Fire-lava snake?
Then it was dealing with a whole new realm entirely.
After was a sentient video game out to destroy the world. It felt just like Nadakhan once again.
Then nearly being trapped underground with a Munce queen. Still not over how he acted. Should of seen the signs.
He supposed he could find some humour in nearly being sacrificed, even if it was just to a wooden boat in the end. She coddled him for hours on end, almost as if she was trying to make a shield to protect him from the outside world.
And then.... That.
It started off weird, got weirder and for a while, thought it was one of the smoothest operations they had in a long time. Get in, get amulet, store safe, be happy. Simples.
Of course, luck being luck, Kalmaar had the real amulet, spiralling into himself nearly drowning at the might of the serpent, and causing his Yang to go all out to save him.
Even if it meant loosing herself in the process.
Its funny, the day you lose someone is not the worst, at least you have something to do. Its the days they then stay gone. He had became a total recluse, opting for the comfort of the salty sea air to the presence of his fellow brothers. To even get the opportunity to see Nya out in the ocean was privilege enough for him, even if he didn't see anything, he was at comfort knowing Nya was all around him, and that he was with her.
He thought that would be how their story ended.
He of course, was wrong.
"Jay...."
It took a year, which felt like centuries to him, for her to find herself enough to come looking for their help, a plan in mind to free herself from the curse she no longer wanted a part of. And with time, resources, (and a touch of crime,) they managed it.
He had her back in her arms.
"Jay."
And even if there was a tiny bit of a problem at the time in the form of the Overlord returning, which was a tiny bit scary (to put it lightly) they did what they always did and saved the day. Even at the expense of his powers for a bit. And with the world saved, it gave himself and her enough time to pl-
"JAY"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shooting up, he quickly hit something hard.
"Owch!"
Scratch that, someone.
Opening his eyes brought himself parallel to Nya's own, sitting next to him on their bed, rubbing her forehead gingerly. peeking out out of the window, he noticed the sun was high in the sky, indicating the morning had long since started.
"Sorry," she started, "I forgot you sometimes just shoot up out of bed."
Its true, he did it a lot, especially when it became much worse after his oh so wonderful time with the Djinn, it became an issue on the Bounty with him waking up in the bunks only to hit his head above him. After the initial laugher died down on it, they worked to giving him his own bunk with plenty of space above him.
"It's fine. I'm sorry for headbutting you." His reply was earnest and quickly put a smile on her face.
Taking a peek to his right revealed the beautiful lush jungle atmosphere inviting him to explore and gander at the marvel of the world beyond concrete and electricity. Beyond, was the ocean, and for a brief second, it made him frown.
The ocean is why Nya had to save him, and why Nya was pulled away from him as well. It was a conflict he had to face at the lighthouse, of wanting to bask in the joy of swimming and relaxing, but how could he, when it was the same thing that nearly killed him?
Nya shaked her head disapprovingly, quickly bopping his nose to regain his attention.
"No. None of that."
She loved him, to the point where she would be able to visualise the cogs in his head, whether it be on a invention he was struggling to find the missing piece, or through his deepest fears, following his time on that cursed flying ship. It just reminded Nya of what she was willing to go to just to see a smile on his face once again.
"Instead of moping around watching the ocean go up and down from the bed, why not we go out and have a beach day!" Her suggestion caused Jay to think. Despite getting his powers back just the day prior (and giving up his room for Unagami to have a place to sleep), he didn't know why he was still in a bit of a mood.
Pulling the covers back, he joined Nya on the tiled floor, performing a few stretches before heading to the bathroom to change, quickly swapping himself into appropriate beachwear. Which by Nya's standard had to forgoe the quote on quote 'awful' blue beach vest he had kept since the early days of the team, and opt for a bright blue Hawaiian shirt instead.
Walking out, he saw that Nya had already changed into her beachwear, holding up two towels for the both of them, while gesturing for him to pick up the umbrella before charging out the door at speeds that made himself jealous.
It took a few minutes for him to reach the beach, only cause he stopped by his old room to see if Unagami was in, only to be left with a message on the door saying he was 'out for the day.' probably to scout more for his game. Nya had already set up the towels onto the sand, rolled them out parallel with enough space for a pole in the middle.
Not needing any more indication he shot up the umbrella, digging it into the warm sand underneath his feet, before laying himself onto his towel, enjoying the rays on sun.
Well he was, until a ball of water hit him in the face.
"Nuh uh" she leaned down, towering over his face with another water ball in her hand to go. "I have only just managed to get you out of bed, you are coming into the water with me."
He tried to object, but another waterball hit his face. The next few times ended the same, until he let out a sigh, getting himself back on his feet.
"You win."
Its all it took for Nya to grab his hand, practically dragging him towards the crystal-blue ocean. He could barely get his shirt off before the cool dampness hit his feet.
Then his legs,
Then his torso.
And it felt nice.
Once Nya had let go however, it became a different story. One involving a sepertant, a blue submersible car, and a hatch that wouldn't open. Why wouldn't it open?! The water level was rising, the car wasn't responding and oh fsm why wouldn't the door open?!!
His eyes were blurry when he opened them again, the face of Nya within his peletheral. There was ringing in his ears, but he tried to listen to what she was saying.
".....en to my voi.... ath in slowly..... out slowly...."
He couldn't understand her well, but did best to mimic her movements, taking deep breaths in, then releasing as slow. Slowly, the ringing died down and his vision became clearer.
She gave a small kiss to his head and held him tight.
"Let's.... avoid the water for now."
It was a smart play, considering he never got himself over the water, but he never blamed her for not knowing.
She was gone for a lot of it, and all he wanted to do was spend time with her once again.
For now, they just laid back on their beach towels, moving them closer so they could cuddle in the warmth of the sun, and just enjoying each others company,
"Jay?"
He turned his head to face her, a worried look plastered her features.
"Do you think we will ever get a break?"
A loaded question, especially with everything gone on. And it was one he had hoped would be a different one. He still thought about the day he asked her to be his Yang, somewhat hoping they would finally be able to retire from saving the world and living day jobs together, finally moving out and getting their own place. But the world still had use for them yet, and somewhat, he wishes the New Ninja luck in their endeavours. Because if they can take over, then finally they may get the chance of a life they had always wanted.
It was with that he gave his answer.
"I think eventually we will get our break. More people are growing up wanting to be heroes, and although we are some of the more popular ones, many new ninja and heroes are popping up around the place. I think we will one day have people so capable, it will allow us to finally rest, and retire in peace.
That answer seemed to have satisfied her, popping her head down next to his, wrapping her arms around his body.
"I love you." he blurted out.
"I- I-" She tried, before stopping
"Don't worry," he assured, "I know." and it got him to smile.
Although the vivid recollection in his mind had soured the start of the day, it only took him to be holding the one he loves to remember that they had managed to survive this far, and even if the world wouldn't give them a break, then they would make the best out of what they did have, one day at a time, starting with the vacation.
Sure, they may have the odd argument, and the smallest of fights, but what mattered was that they were together to the end, and that no matter how many years of fights they have ahead, they are certain that for the moment, everything is alright. And as long as they have each other, they will be soaring to the very end.
I have dedicated this one for Dissmisery, for always being an amazing friend, and being an amazing person overall in the Jaya Ninjago Fandom.
It's funny, How so long can go by, years in the making where you think everything is alright, And then it isn't.
I will miss you, and I hope you do return eventually.
Thank you for everything.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to say a big thank you to Dissmisery for being there in the Jaya fandom. Although I have not been as big as a part as I used to be in writing and talking, I really loved talking to her through our countless Jaya talks of weddings and fluff and headcannons and short prompts that if I could go back to those days, I would.
It has been a pleasure knowing her as my friend, and I really do hope she does come back, I mean with Dragons Rising and everything I think the way they do the stories are changing, but I do hope to get some lovely Jaya back into the main show sometime soon. My drought is killing me.
though from the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, and again, I'm sorry if the writing is terrible, I may have forgotten how to write like I did once before lmao.
