Error Code 404 (School Mischief PT:6)

"So, what happens now?" Nya asked, her voice filled with hesitation. Zane looked somber, trying to avoid what he would have to say to her.

"Firstly Nya, we would have to leave this world, and return back to reality. You will have to leave everyone behind, and come back to the real world with me."

Nya paused, processing the information, before interrupting him. "But I would be able to return here whenever, to come see Jay some times?" She asked cheerfully. However, when Zane didn't give her a response, she grew anxious.

"Right??"

Again, Zane stayed silent, not wanting to speak. Nya started getting nervous.

"Zane.... what are you not telling me...?" She hesitantly asked, fearing the answer. He sighed, taking a breath that he didn't need, before continuing.

"The world around us, the people, the places that you have been to, it generates data into the system. Data that needs to be recorded onto the systems back in the cave."

"And that is okay, it is necessary. We prepared a lot of storage space on the servers for you to be able to use to have your adventures with Jay here. However, due to your prolonged usage of the digiverse to stay with him in here, the system has been maxing out its storage capacity, and it has become unstable recently...."

"Because of this, there is an issue..." Zane looked away, staring at the city.

"What's the issue?" She asked, again getting no response.

"Zane! What is the issue!" Zane faced her, a look of regret on his face.

"The issue is that the system is now too big to sustain itself, and is slowly corrupting itself. It is slowly deleting this reality, leaving nothing behind."

"If we leave now, the systems will begin the deletion of this world, and everything in it. All the data that has been stored about this city. The school, cafes, your homes. Gone. However, it will also affect every simulated character here, even ones which are self aware..."

"Even Jay.."

Nya looked back at Jay, horrified, who was equally scared. Scared of what it meant.

The entire year with him, would be erased from history.

The love she had built for him over the last year, would be gone, erased from existence, never to exist again.

She had wanted Jay back, and she got him. However, due to her own selfishness, she had stayed too long, desperate to stick with the man she loved.

And all it did was lead to tragedy. She leaves, and Jay dies. He dies because she couldn't limit herself on seeing him. She couldn't stop being with him. Decided to give up reality for him.

In a way, by staying too long, she had killed Jay, sentenced to death, for the mere crime of existing and loving her. And her brain wouldn't let it go. The fact digging deep into her.

No matter if it was a simple 'computer program' Jay had feelings, he understood her, cared for her. The dates they had, the times they had together. The love they had for each other. Gone the second she leaves.

".. and what would happen if I stayed here?" Nya asked, scared. Jay looked shocked that she would even ask such a question. Zane however just gave her another sad smile.

"The same thing would happen, the world would be deleted. However, your mind would also be deleted, leaving your body out in the world empty and lifeless, you lost forever."

If Nya was sad before, she was extremely distraught now. She had two choices:

Live the rest of her life with Jay here, which wouldn't be long, and die along with him, or,

Return home to the other ninja, killing Jay, letting his last moments be alone before she goes, and return home to her friends, her family, Alfie.

Of course she wanted to stay with Jay. He was her love. But the others, Alfie. They were her life. It just wasn't fair on Alfie to die along Jay, giving up the chance to be a mother to her son. She just couldn't do that.

It just wasn't fair.

"Jay... I-" Jay interrupted her.

"Go Nya. You are needed more in the real world than you are needed with me. Besides. I am nothing of the original." He looked down in sadness. Nya just pulled him into a hug.

"You had no idea about all this, and I don't want you to go. You're not just a copy, you are Jay. You are the person I married, had a child with, and now.... The person I have to kill.."

"But throughout the time I have been here, not once did I think of you as a copy, rather of my husband, who died those months ago. And...." She turned to Zane. "We don't have to leave straight away?"

Zane nodded his head, but sighed.

"We cannot stay long, we should really be going now."

Nya let go of Jay, walking to Zane.

"One last night?" She practically pleaded. Zane thought about it, before agreeing.

"One more night."

Leaving Nya's house, which they basically shared together, they headed to the park, where they agreed to meet Zane. However, as they were walking, Jay pulled on her sleeve.

"Nya, over there." She turned around, before looking where he was pointing.

"What, I don't see anything-" She noticed it. The hills where they were just last night, were starting to fade into white boxes.

"I think we should get a move on." Jay ushered her along, finally reaching the park gates. In the middle, by the fountain, Zane sat, watching the birds. However, his mind snapped to the two as they approached.

"Ready?" He asked, standing up. Nya sighed, before turning around, giving Jay one last deep kiss, and hug, her eyes filling with tears and her arms becoming shaky. She may not of been good with words, but she poured all of her affection and love for him into actions, squeezing him tightly, before letting go, and turning back to Zane.

"I'm ready."

Zane pressed a few buttons on his wrist, before a blue and turquoise portal in the middle of the park swirled into reality, then walking slowly towards it, Nya following him a bit behind.

Nya took one last look at the world around her, the park, the cafe just in sight down the street the school in the distance, the building that was still being constructed.

All the good times, the good memories. and finally, she looked at Jay, the man he shared them with.

She had a year with him, but she had to go back.

No matter how much she wanted to stay.

First Zane went through, disappearing, then finally, Nya, taking one last goodbye wave to him, in which Jay waved back.

And then they were gone.

And he was all alone.

Sighing sadly to himself, he sat down on one of the benches, waiting for the corruption to get him, or for the deletion of the world. Whichever was less painful he supposed. As the minutes went on, the data got lost more and more, entire buildings turning into white cubes, eventually scrambling the people around him.

Then they were gone too. Like they never existed.

The world was lost more and more, until the park remained. And in the park, laid only Jay. He sighed.

"The whole world, a fake, and myself a lie. I just wish it didn't have to end like this!" He yelled angrily, getting up and kicking over a few plant pots. "WHY WAS I CREATED?!?! JUST TO DIE?!!?!?"

Taking a few deep breaths, he pulled out a picture from his coat pocket, of him and Nya on one of their dates, Nya on his back eating popcorn, while he was was trying to carry her around. The good days for him. He sighed, not wanting his last emotions to be pure hatred of his existence, of the people who created him, he blamed the metal one, the people who built the reality, not his love. He would rather be feeling sadness, than hatred. Carefully holding the picture, he pushed his thumb over Nya's hair, smiling sadly.

"Whatever happens, I hope my Waterlily is safe...."

_______________

Jolting up, Nya took deep breaths, regaining her composure, hyperventilating.

"Hey hey, you're okay now." Kai assured her, pulling her into a hug. Nya just broke down, crying in his arms.

"There, there...." Kai soothed, rubbing circles on her back, like he used to do all the years ago. And it still worked now, quieting her down.

"I'm sorry.." She mumbled to him, Kai just ruffled her hair.

"It's not your fault. We shouldn't have made the machine. It was too tempting for you. However, I think you should talk to the others as well, see them again." A cry rang through the room, one Nya knew well. "Especially Alfie."

Nya let go, getting out of the chair and stumbling out the door, her legs adjusting to being unused for ages.

"Alfie! Mommy's coming!" She yelled, following the cries slowly, until she came to a room.

Her room.

Entering, she saw Alfie in his cot, crying out. Nya's eyes welled up with tears as she picked him up, and hugged him close, ensuring that he was alright. However, she noticed how in the time she was gone, he had grown so much.

However, a blaring noise shook her, walking back out into the Samurai X cave to see the servers of the reality fizzling, a few sparks coming out. On the screen, a pop up displayed.

Starting deletion of reality.

Nya looked at it, sadness filling her. However, the gurgling sounds of Alife pulled her away from the machine, hugging him gently. However, that didn't stop a single tear from falling from her face.

"I'm sorry Jay. I really wanted to save you. Unfortunately, instead I killed you. I won't be able to live this down..."

Before anyone could stop her, she walked away from the machine, unable to look at it anymore. The year that never been. The extra time she got with her husband. And yet. She wanted more. Much more. But she was glad she got the time with him, even though her mind will haunt the aftermath to her for a long time..

On the screen, another pop up started, Pixal and Zane looking at it, before smiling sadly, and walking away.
