A while back, Jeleego wandered as to why Julien wanted to keep Zane alone in the woods like that. Well, here's the theory I promised!

My theory is that Zane was originally made to fight in the Serpentine War, but his memory got erased by Dr. Julien.

Hear me out:

We know that Zane as a robot is roughly ~40 years old, much like the Serpentine War which also happened around that time.

Now, imagine you've just created a brand new fighting android before even the man himself (Cyrus Borg) could do it. It would surely help against the war, right?

Even Zane's design was simple. He was made to resemble a human almost perfectly, not some super soldier robot like you'd expect a normal robot to look like.

Anyways, he would've been a great tool for the war, whether he was used for it or not. Although his knowledge in fighting could be mainly from that too, not just Wu's training. I mean, how didn't Wu figure out he was a robot? Didn't Julien tell him?

Now, for the small plot hole: if Zane had fought in the war, Wu would've met him, right? Well, yes and no.

If he did in fact meet him, it only adds to the fact as to why he would have chosen him. I mean, every other team member has some relation to an elemental, but Zane does not. Whether Wu knew whether he had an element back then or not, a skilled fighter like him would have been a great addition to his team.

Now, for the memory thing. You know how all Julien wanted was to keep Zane safe? And how the Serpentine War is rarely mentioned these days? Well, that could explain both Zane's lost memory and behaviour. So, the War accompanied by Samukai and... you get the drill.

For someone who had lived so many years, Zane didn't know much about human interaction. I mean, in the pilots, he couldn't really get a joke and he even had a funny switch in Season One! Why would he know so little? Well, if his memory had been restarted, it would explain his behaviour a lot more. It would be as if he was reborn in some way.

The reason Julien kept him in the woods was because A) like every good sci-fi story, he wouldn't want someone stealing Zane's design and use it for bad deeds and B) just to keep him safe from the world around him and the wars happening at the time.

So... That's all I've got. Just food for thought.
