Prompt: "Have we met before?"

He breathed in and out slowly, taking pleasure in inhaling the air of the present time – and of the sweet victory he had just claimed. He smirked as he stared down at the crumpled heap the once respectful and powerful Master Wu was.

The old man lay at his feet injured, bruised and out of breath. His white beared was growing longer gradually and it looked like he was aging. The other younger man chuckled at the pathetic form of his used-to-be ninja master.

The old man looked at him through his slowly closing eyes. He coughed a few times as all his sound mind and body aged – physically and emotionally. The other man crouched down and leaned in close to Wu's ear and whispered.

"Control time, control everything."

This was followed by another soft chuckle. The man's eyes glinted wickedly as chuckles evolved into cackles and grew louder to form laughter that echoed outwards from the top of the mountain.

"The Time Punch worked much, much more effectively than it did last time," the man stated, inspecting the metal glove on his hand forged from chrono-steel. It had two blades protruding from the sides, pulsing with green energy – or rather the element of speeding time up.

"And do you know why that happened, Wu?" He asked, his voice dripping with malice. He placed his foot on the old man's chest, pushing him to the ground. Wu groaned painfully under the force of it. The man sneered at him before saying, "It's because I've grown stronger and you have become weak! You don't have your precious brother to back you up now, huh, Wu?"

The old master tried to pull the foot off his chest which was resulting in his struggle to breathe properly but his increasing age was creating hurdles for his strength.

The other man pulled at Wu's long, white beard, forcing his head to rise. "You've been separated from him just like you separated me from mine," he hissed, anger of the past igniting the fire in his black eyes.

"You . . . won't get away . . . with this . . . Acronix," Wu hissed. Acronix laughed again, pointing the Forward Time Blade at the old man's neck. "I'd like to see you try and stop me. Or should I say . . . us!"

Wu's wise blue eyes widened as Acronix removed his foot from his chest. "What?" he whispered. The Master of Time chuckled, pulling down his black mask over his jeering face. "Why, yes. Once I reunite with my brother, nothing will stop us!"

Acronix turned around to sweep his eyes over the burnt ruins of the monastery which were now crumbling as a result of the fight he and Wu had just had. "Pity," he muttered, taking in the pathetic sight. "I really enjoyed training here alongside you."

He glanced back at Wu who seemed to be getting weaker and weaker by the second. "But I guess people change with time, don't you think?"  He didn't wait for an answer but made his way towards the spiralling set of steps carved into the mountain, his cape flowing behind him in the wind.

"I'm coming, brother."

. . .

Dr Saunders entered the secret room he had built in the Ninjago Museum Of History. He sighed as tiredness took over his body causing him to drop down on the sofa chair in the far corner.

The room looked more like a lab where designs of a mech of some sort were spread on the wooden work table. The unusual thing was the absence of any sort of technological devices in the room. That was because Dr Saunders hated technology.

Actually, Dr Saunders wasn't even his real name. It was just an alias. A persona to keep himself hidden from the world until his plans were completed. Krux took off the spectacles from off his nose and peeled off the fake moustache.

He coughed, his throat tired of making the squeaky, high-pitched noise Saunders was supposed to have. His hair was gray, a result of age and time. He had to keep track of when it would turn white in order to get a white moustache.

He didn't want to deal with what happened last time again. The time his hair were starting to fade to gray from ebony while his moustache was still black as ever.

Anyway, all of this would've been a lot easier with . . . him. He couldn't imagine how he spent all those years in sanity knowing his brother was lost in a time vortex. He had worked tirelessly day and night, calculating on when he would be back so that he could get the plan ready till then.

All that was left was for him to wait for the eggs to hatch, to find all the Time Blades and to manufacture the time machine. Actually, those were a lot of things. But nothing mattered more than the return of his long-lost brother.

Thinking this, he fell asleep without realizing it. Who knew attending to tourists was so exhausting. He must've slept pretty soundly because it was a few seconds before he noticed that someone was shaking him awake.

His eyelids lifted slowly as he grumbled sleepily. He rubbed his eyes, trying to remove the blurriness. He blinked once or twice. As he finally woke up, he noticed the other person standing in front of him.

Their eyes met and a twinkle of recognition sparked in them. Krux slowly stood up, his heart beating fast and his breathing quiet as if breathing loudly would ruin everything. He took in the features of the newcomer, each and everyone exactly the same as his apart from the wrinkle-less face and the long, black hair.

It was like looking in a young mirror where the reflection would show one in their younger years. The thought scared him. What if this was just his reflection, an illusion? What if this wasn't his twin brother?

"What if there were no more what if's?"

Wu had said that once.

Krux dared to open his mouth and speak. "Acronix?" He whispered, hoping this was real and not just a dream that would never come true. Acronix smiled teasingly at his much-changed twin. "Have we met before?" He asked jokingly, raising an eyebrow.

A slight smile could be seen appearing on Krux's lips as he sighed in relief. He shook his head at his brother's joke, chuckling. "Forty years," he said. "You've been stuck in time for forty years and you still haven't stopped your ridiculous joking."

His twin shrugged. "Well, then I wouldn't be Acronix, would I?" Krux placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "You definitely won't."

They both laughed as they pulled each other in an embrace, never wanting to let go again. It was hard and it was lonely but somehow those horrible days passed and now they were whole. Time had torn them apart but time also brought them together.

Krux pulled away and slung an arm around Acronix's shoulder, guiding him over to the work table. "Now, what do you say we teach Wu and Ninjago a lesson?"

"I actually just taught him a lesson" Acronix stated to Krux's confusion. "But no one said we can't give extra classes," the younger twin continued, winking mischievously. "For we will forever be Masters of Time . . ."

" . . . Brothers in crime," Krux finished for him.
