"Coma of darkness"
This is more or less an Au short. But it will a 100% cannon to the story. I'm just starting to write the next chapter, so for now, enjoy this little story!
---------------------------------------------------
Jay opened his eyes to see him falling off of the top of Borg Tower, but it was blurry, and it felt like it was happening in slow motion. He could almost make out his friends' voices calling out his name, but they weren't clear either. Jay couldn't feel or hear anything except for the wind. But then it stopped. Every thing stopped. It was dark, and quiet. Empty. He thought he felt a burst of pain for a second, but he didn't feel it any more. He didn't feel, hear or see... anything anymore. Just dark. He waited for his consciousness to just seize, or however it was like to die. He floated in the darkness alone, growing more and more terrified as the time passed. Nothing was happening. He didn't see the light, heck, he didn't even know what it would look like if he did. He wasn't ready to go yet, he's only still a child! But based on the last thing he saw, he knew there was no way that he could've survived that fall. He HAD to have been dead. Right? Just then, a strange feeling quivered through Jay's mind. He felt a presence getting closer to him; even though at the moment he couldn't even feel his physical body. Suddenly, the darkness he was suspended in was broken open by a crack of light.
"This is it..." the blue ninja reluctantly excepted death and readied himself to be brought into it. But... he wasn't. And the light was FAR FROM heavenly- it looked like fire.
OH NO NO NO NO NO..... AFTER ALL THE SELFLESS ACTIONS HE'D DONE?! NO WAY DID HE END UP IN..... ah.. you know.
His panic faded as he floated over the light and put his hand to it. It wouldn't go through, it was like a force field. No. A window. A window that was all red tinted and blurry. But as it began to clear slightly, his heart sank. The window was showing what he was seeing. This was essentially his eyes! The scene seemed to flicker. Ninjago City was caught ablaze, and he appeared to be laying on the street. Someone stood over him. They seemed to be hesitating if they wanted to touch him or not. Reaching out then pulling back. It took a moment, but he soon realized who it was.
"Ronin...?"
The vision window (for lack of a better term) became more and more glitchey and unclear; less bright as well. Jay began panicking and banging his fists against the wall. The light faded even more as he yelled for Ronin to please help him. A faint golden figure appeared next to the thief and guided his hand down towrds Jay carefully. The room became completely dark once more, leaving the ninja alone. He hung his head with a depressed sigh. Then the window reopened for a moment to reveal Ronin was now carrying him in his arms.
The man looked down at him with worried expression. The gold figure remained behind him, seemingly guiding Ronin's comforting motions. Like moving the hair out of his eyes and rubbing his arm to reassure him that everything was going to be alright. Immediately after Ronin told him that he'd be okay, everything went back to the dark void of deafening silence. Jay's conscious looked down at his hands, they too began to glitch and fade away. A wave of terror washed over his face before he could no longer be. He existed, he felt his spirit, but the memories he had just made were leaving. He existed, but nothing more. He only just knew he simply... was.
Time was no longer a factor, but when his consciousness reawakened it had felt like he'd been asleep for years. The blue ninja looked down at himself. Yep. Still essentially a ghost in a void. Wonderful...
"Oh. Look who decided to finally wake up and help me." A sarcastic voice rung out around him. It sounded oddly familiar, now that he realized it. Jay said nothing until it spoke up again.
"So, you just gonna float there, or are you going to try to control your own body again?"
"Control my body.. AGAIN? Have you been doing it while I was out?"
A familiar green ghost appeared directly in front of him. Morro. He cracked a smirk. "You're welcome."
The blue ninja zoomed back in fear.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HEAD? What awful things did you do with my body?!"
The ghost chuckled. "And by awful, you mean keeping your lungs breathing by request of Sensei? Then yes. Oh so awful things...."
"You- You're keeping me alive? Why? I thought you hated me."
*sigh* "No. I never hated you, I suppose I was just jealous. Besides, I'm not cursed anymore, I have no reason to be angry with you or anyone else. And like I said- I'm doing this because Wu told me to."
The blue ninja tilted his head, still cautious about getting closer to the specter. He asked how he was able to escape the Departed Realm to help him, but Morro said that it wasn't important. In fact, Morro wasn't even possessing him, just somehow using his elemental wind to keep his lungs breathing. Jay wasn't sure he wanted to know how, just having the green ninja wannabe inside him was creepy enough. The two talked for awhile about how Morro swore he wasn't out for revenge anymore, and how he genuinely felt kinda bad for Jay.
"I suppose I was more wiling to help you because I understand. When I was about 17 I wandered into a cave and got myself cooked to death. I was way too young to have been killed, so I'm making sure that you don't meet the same fate."
The master of wind disappeared once more, and it was just Jay again. He took a deep breath and focused on trying to feel his physical body. But he couldn't feel anything. The master of lightning felt the time going by, but there was no way of knowing how long. And as suddenly as it disappeared, some feeling came crashing over Jay. His consciousness crumbled to the nonexistent floor, hugging himself in pain. He shouted out, questioning why he was suddenly in pain. Morro had apparently heard his screams and appeared next to him. "You alright?" his voice cracked almost sarcastically.
The blue ninja looked up at him slightly irritated. "No! It's not alright! My ghost is in pain, and I don't think it's supposed to be... I think I'm dying or something!"
The green ghost smirked. "Oh. No that's a good thing. It means you're body is reconnecting to your conscious. Unfortunately, since you're pretty much in a coma right now, there's no way of knowing when or if you'll ever wake up."
"WHAT?! You mean to tell me that I could be painfully trapped in this void FOREVER?!!?"
"No... not forever. If you don't wake up in a few months, your body will probably just give up, and you'll get to go to the Departed Realm."
Wow. REALLY comforting... Morro wished him good luck and teleported away. This kind of thing kept happening, with the ghost coming to check on him every once in a while. With every pop in, Jay feared him less and less. And then finally, one day...
Jay floated in the darkness alone, focusing on controlling his heart and breathing. He could finally control his body, but only those two parts. He couldn't move anything, but he could finally feel it. It hurt. He felt the sting as he forced himself to keep breathing, and the way everything else ached, but he chose to try ta ignore it. And as it was becoming the norm, Morro popped into the void in front of Jay.
"So?.. How's it going?"
"Fine I guess. I mean, my breathing doesn't seem to be hurting all that much anymore. So there's that."
The green ghost smiled. Right as he was about to say something, Jay and the whole void started to glitch away.
"Aw, come on! After all this I STILL die?!"
"This. This isn't dying. You're waking up."
The blue ninja froze. "I am?! But what happens when I wake up? Will I remember this?"
Morro shook his head. "Nope, not a second. But I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck out there master of lightning." He gave a little salute and everything went bright white.
It was like the darkness for a moment, in him only just being. But in an instant, he felt like he was thrown back into his body and he opened his eyes. The prison of darkness Jay had been trapped in for what felt like ages was finally conquered. He at last was mostly in control again. The wounded ninja opened his eyes a sliver, wincing from the sudden burst of pain and light. It was a blurry scene, but it began to clear up the more he blinked. Ronin was sitting on a chair not too far away; sharpening and shining a knife. He glanced down at him and reacted in shock.
"You- You're alive! Your eyes are open! You opened your eyes!" his tone of voice was unusually happy. Jay watched as the thief acted in a relieved panic. It's so weird though, the last thing he remembered was falling from the tower, then waking up on the street, then being on R.E.X in Ronin's arms. He had a strange feeling that there was something else.... Someone else.
But he couldn't seem to recall any such event, so he dismissed the feeling. Though it was still all so strange......
