You Meet
Cole:
You buttoned up your black trousers and tucked your white, long-sleeved blouse in. The uniform was comfortable and fit well but made you look posh. Tying the string around your back, you secured your apron in place. It had the bakery's logo on the front with little swirls around the rest. Your shift was in a few minutes, taking over from your brother.
~30 minutes later~
"And would you like any drinks? Okay, so that's 2 strawberry muffins, a cinnamon roll and a coconut tart. With 3 cokes and a lemonade. Your order will be with you shortly." The customer paid and let you keep the change.
Although you were only 15, you worked at Cakery Bakery with your 21 year old brother for an elderly lady named Mystaké. (B/N) had to work extra hard because Mystaké is much more stricter on him.
"Good afternoon, sir. How may I help?" You asked with a smile plastered onto your face.
"Hey, I'll have a takeaway fudge cupcake and a small chocolate milkshake please." One customer said to you on a drizzly Tuesday afternoon. His features looked familiar but it was hard to see his eyes properly through his damp, jet black fringe.
"Would you like anything else, sir? There's a discount on strawberry jam tarts if you buy a drink." You informed politely while taking his order from the display.
"Uh, no thanks. And, you can call me Cole. I'm definitely coming back here again! The cake looks so good!" His excited gesture made you giggle but secretly, you were happy you had a promising customer. They're very rare these days.
"If you insist, Cole. I'm (Y/N)." You pointed to your name badge which clung to your apron.
"And I look forward to seeing you here again."
From Mystaké, you learnt that you should always seem charming to potential buyers. They're loyalty is important and people can be attracted to a business due to friendly staff. It might've been informal but at least he looked about your age.
You gave Cole his order in a cute brown bag with your logo printed on it. Cole took the milkshake from the counter as it would've broken the small bag. He paid for the items with a few coins and dropped £2 into the charity box.
"Thanks for shopping at Cakery Bakery!" You called out to him. It always felt weird to say 'Cakery Bakery' to your customers as it was a strange name but Cole still smiled and walked towards the door, putting his hand up to the handle. He hesitated and retreated, then turned back to you, taking a few steps closer to the counter.
"If this stuff is good, I'll be here tomorrow." He said with a wink.
"I'll see you tomorrow, then." You replied, in a cocky manner.
"Confident. Talk to you tomorrow, (Y/N). And maybe you could join me for a drink, too." Cole suggested.
"Maybe." You waved him off and he exited the bakery, pulling his hood up. It wasn't waterproof.
From under the counter, you grabbed a clear umbrella that has little rainclouds on it and raced out of the café. Bolting down the street, amazed at how far he had already walked, you called for Cole.
"C-Cole! Wait up!" You yelled and caught up to him, slightly breathless from your impulsive decision. He stopped and turned to you, a confused frown on his lips.
"Here. This is for you." You handed him the umbrella and he looked down at it and then back up to you.
"Oh, thanks! It's raining a bit heavier now, as well." Cole commented in appreciation and uncovered the latch, silently putting it up and covering the both of your heads.
"I guess I have to come back tomorrow - to return your umbrella, I mean." Cole smiled excitedly and you returned a childish grin.
"I'll be seeing you later, Cole." You patted his forearm before turning around and pacing back to the bakery.
Cole called out to you, "Bye, (Y/N)!" while waving slightly as you disappeared back into the warm building.
A queue had already formed in those few minutes you were away from the counter. Wiping water droplets from your hair hurriedly, you started serving the customers waiting in line.
Jay:
School was boring. Just like usual. Challenging but still very bland. Same routine everyday. Some topics were interesting but it didn't seem like teachers even made an effort to make a lesson remotely fun. Every lesson filled students with anxiety and dread. A constant fear of the dreaded moment when the teacher picks on them when they don't know the answer and other people judging when they answer incorrectly.
Two parents came into school. They are were expressing their admiration for technology and inventions which intrigued you. Admittedly, engineering wasn't your strongest subject, yet their lecture was very informative. Plus, you were trying to do well in every lesson after you completely flopped your science exam.
Ed and Edna, the two visitors, rambled about their Junkyard and how they can create such marvellous things with scraps of metal and electricity. As an example, they brought their son up to the front to explain some of their latest machines. He was previously sitting on a chair situated against the side wall of the hall. No one had taken much notice of him at first but then some girls stared at him. He was good-looking but it was hard to hear what he was trying to say when there were 5 other students squealing over him next to you.
The assembly had finally finished and you were about to go to Ed and Edna to ask a few questions about their Junkyard. Your Dad worked for Cyrus Borg and the company is always in need for more materials. Hopefully, you could get some cheap scrap metal off of them.
The small group of girls were talking to Jay, batting their eyelids and flirtatiously running their hands through their hair. You felt kind of sorry for him. If he dated one of the girls, she'd probably break up with him after a week or cheat without being caught.
Either way, due to his facial expression, you could tell he was quite uncomfortable.
Ed and Edna answered your questions happily but paused when it came to the subject of a mech that Borg was planning to build. They called Jay over, giving him an excuse to escape the group of newly-found admirers. They glared at you and you couldn't help but feel nervous. It's rude to stare, but most importantly, it makes people awkward.
"Borg is trying to make these new mech thingys but I don't know where he'll find the right resources. He wants strong alloys but doesn't know which ones would be best to use for which parts." You explained to Jay.
"Well, he can always come to our Junkyard and help himself to whatever he likes. Actually, you might want to wheel him there or something because it's hard for him to... you know?" You giggled at his valid point and how he made it with humour.
"Give us a call or pop 'round if you're interested." He passed a business card to you with contact details. You murmured a 'thanks' and he nodded.
"Could I come around to your junkyard this week? I'd like to see your family's creations." You asked.
"Hmm. Most of our greatest models are at Mega Monster Amusement Park. Can I see you there at 10 tomorrow?" Jay smiled at you.
"It's a date." That's last comment made girls glare at you and Jay blushed lightly. You instantly regretted saying that and just smiled awkwardly.
"Wait, I-"
"Don't worry, I know what you meant." Jay reassured with a wink.
Once the conversation was over, Jay got swarmed with questions from other students. Not many were scientific and mostly went along the lines of "Soooo, have you got a girlfriend?"
His eyes gazed at you, pleading for you to help him. All you did was laugh under your breath and waved at him playfully. Jay returned a cheeky smile and disappeared into the hallway of humans.
Lloyd:
Lolipop in your hand, you walked into Doomsday Comix to browse the newly released comics. You liked getting invested into a good plot and characters with great personality but didn't know which series was the best. Excitement and action, romance and comedy, thrills and horror. The options are endless! There was a downside; hardly anyone in your class had even read one before so they couldn't give you suggestions.
You were just casually reading a comic that had a cool front cover. It didn't make much sense to you since it was the 54th issue, but you enjoyed the sarky comebacks from the hero to the villians. Your head perked up over the comic book after hearing a thud when someone tripped over a chair leg and fell flat on the floor. People in the store laughed at his clumsiness but you helped him up. Plus, the comic was cliché.
"Thanks. I swear that chair has it in for me. That's the third time this week! And it's the same chair." You giggled at his light humour.
"I'm (Y/N)." You put your hand out.
"Nice. I'm Lloyd." He shook your hand that was placed in front of him. He had a firm grip but didn't shake too violently. Sportsman. He must participate in a sports based on hand strength. Badminton, maybe?
You found your sled analysing the boy. You often did that when meeting new people; trying to guess who they are without finding out.
Lloyd picked up a comic from the newly released isle and flicked through it. His eyes had stars in them as he gazed at the illustrations in awe. Lloyd noticed your curious staring and explained.
"This is my favourite comic series. It's about the brave Fritz Donnegan and his adventures through space!" Lloyd's voice held a lot of enthusiasm.
"Would you recommend I read it?" You asked, hoping for some advice.
"YEAH! Of course! You'll have to read from issue one, though. Actually, I have the whole series at home. You could borrow them, if you want." He suggested.
"Oh, no thank you. That's very kind but you don't need to do that." You were flustered by his offer but brushed it off.
"Seriously! I want to introduce Fritz to another being."
"Well, only if you're sure..."
"It would be my pleasure." He did as little bow, making you giggle again.
"Okay, okay. I'll see you here sometime next week?" You asked.
"Mmmmm. How about on Tuesday at 11:30? We could go out for lunch or something." Lloyd smiled nervously, anxiety yelling at him about how creepy that sounded.
"Yep! I'll see you there which is also here... bye!" You waved and left the store, the bell chiming as you left.
Damn, you forgot to get a comic book.
Zane:
"Ughhh. This level is so hard." Your best friend whined. She dramatically collapsed on the machine at the arcade she dragged you to. Despite enjoying video games, you know how (B/F) gets when it comes to competitive games and would rather avoid the result of one.
"YOU." She just stared at you. You raised an eyebrow with a puzzled expression.
"PLAY." (B/F) continued to stare at you until you gave in.
"I'll see what I can do." You rolled your eyes and stood up to the machine. The nest technique was to button mash but with strategy. You have to time when you press down and if those are the right buttons.
Despite your gaming skill, this battle was particularly hard and it took you a few times but eventually, you cleared the level.
(B/F) danced around in joy as she let the tickets from the game fall into her hands. There was this big elephant toy that she had wanted for years but never got enough tickets to purchase. Now, however, she had plenty! All thanks to you.
"Here's the rest of the tickets. Thanks for playing." (B/F) wasn't good at showing appreciation but you knew that she meant it and accepted the red tickets. You had about 140 in your hand.
While gazing at the choices of items to receive, two boys caught your attention. One was clad in a blue goodie with blue tracksuits and was bothering the other who was wearing light grey trousers and a white jumper with a light blue snowflake in the middle.
You overhears the dispute.
"C'mon, Zane, pleeeeaaase! I've wanted it for months!" The boy with brown hair complained. The one with light blonde hair - Zane, presumably - sighed and nodded.
"Yay!" The shorter one squealed with delight and asked the man over the counter for the skateboard with lightning on the bottom. He traded in the tickets while the other boy looked longingly at another prize.
You edged nearer to have a peek and saw that it was a remote controlled toy car. The box said it could be voice controlled, was waterproof and had different modes such as the 'Boat Mode' where it opens at the back and a propeller shoots out.
The pair left and you thought about the quieter boy. He didn't get what he wanted so you decided you could get it for him, instead!
Quickly, you traded the tickets in for the car and raced out of the arcade to catch up with them. They were about to get on their motorbikes so you ran up to them. They were parked outside of the cinema.
"I-I have this for you." You handed him the box containing the car, wheezing.
He took it from you with a confused look on his face.
"For me?" He asked, tilting hus head slightly like a deer.
"I saw that you had an interest in it and I had an lot of tickets so this is for you." You explained, finally catching your breath.
He smiled widely. It was the first time you had seen him smile at all. He stood up from his motorbike, set the car on the seat and hugged you.
It was a bit awkward for you because he was hugging around your arms as well so all you could do was bend your elbows at pat him.
"Thank you so much, Miss..."
"Please, just (Y/N)." You insisted, debating whether it was legal or not for them to have vehicles at their age.
"Indeed. I am just Zane. How can I make it up to you? Is there anything you want?" He smiled gently.
"I guess I want to see this movie but it's silly and there's no need-"
"I shall accompany you tomorrow to the cinema in front of us to watch the film of your desire."
"..."
"Is there anything wrong?"
"Only if you're sure..." You mumbled, taken back from his kindness.
"I will see you here tomorrow at 10:40. Goodbye, (Y/N)." He waved as left with his friend.
Now that is something to look forward to. You can't wait!
Kai:
You were walking around New Ninjago City with (B/F), just buying whatever. She dragged you into several cosmetic shops and made you try different colours of lipstick.
"I think the red one looks better than the pink. It's more flashy. It's more 'hello!', you know?" (B/F) evaluated each type that you tried. This colour was nicknamed "shining fire". (B/F) comes up with weird names but it makes looking at than here products more interesting.
"Let's go to the clothes section."
She grabbed your hand and pulled you to the dresses and skirts. You saw this nice blue and orange summer one and (B/F) had already collected several in her arms for her to try on. Then, a staff member came up to you and sprayed perfume on your face.
"Would you be interested in buying this product? You can have and sample, if you want." You shook your head and when he left, you coughed as the fumes were tickling your throat.
"(B/F), let's go!" You said to her, already having enough of this store.
"Okay, fiiiiiine." She plonked the clothing she liked on the floor and followed you to the exit.
"You know that if you wanted to buy that stuff, we could've done that first." You told her, questioning why she just left the things there.
"Nah. I only have a few quid and that'll be for the bus back." (B/F) explained. You just shrugged and went with it. As you turned a corner, a boy came running in your direction and smashed right into you. You fell back and landed on the floor. (B/F) was behind a you and hid a laugh before helping you up.
The boy was still on the floor so you reached your hand out to him. This gave you time ro notice how spiky his hair is. He took it. You hoisted him up and he took so moment to realise what happened. When he did, his facial expression changed.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you but you should look where you're going." He said with a smirk.
"Yeah, sorry I was walking normally around a corner, interrupting your crazy running." You apologized sarcastically.
"Fair enough." He gave in and chuckled.
"What's with the rush, anyway, Mister?" You asked, being curious and nosy.
"I was going to get a bus but nevermind." He shrugged.
"Oh. Sorry if I've made you late for anything." You genuinely meant it this time.
"It's okay. Plus, I'd rather stay here for longer if you'll go for a coffee with me." (B/F) sensed what was going on and backed out.
"Huh. Charmed. Maybe tomorrow at... 2? How's that for you?"
"Seems good. See you then, um..." He trailed off.
"(Y/N)."
"Kai."
"See you then, um... Kai." You mimicked him and walked off, catching up with (B/F). In the corner if your eye, you saw him smirk.
