Shinobi Temple
~~~~(Katie's POV)~~~~
I heard shuffling and cabinet like doors shutting around me. I heard muffled voices around me as well. I felt someone gently shake my shoulder, I blinked my eyes open to see Heisuke.
"We've landed, come on." He said grabbing the luggage from above. I got up from the not so comfortable seat, and followed the guys out with Sasuke and Heisuke behind me. We walked with our bags out of the airport. I took in the sight before me.
It's not like your regular Japan you see today. There's no skyscrapers, buildings, trains, cars or anything with technology for that matter. It was more....feudal Japan. The land a never ending green filled with trees, some huts for houses, and wagons instead of cars. This reminded me of vision like dreams of my mother, the background was similar to this.
"Woah," I said shocked. "How come there's no technology or fancy stuff here like the big cities?"
"Because we've stuck with tradition. The only thing new that's close to technology is the airport and planes. This allows travelers to come visit and experience peace, that was before the war began." Goemon spoke. Saizo spoke up,
"We need to leave now, if we're going to make it to the Shinobi temple."
"How far is that?" I asked a little curious.
"Two days if we travel from dawn to dusk." And that my friends is start of our journey to some temple.
I have no idea what time it was, but we walked a far distance well after dark. Kortaro made a fire which I sat close to. The warmth of the flame warming up my cold body. Goemon and Sasuke left to go hunt, leaving the others to do as they pleased.
Heisuke hasn't spoke to me since the plane ride, my heart aching for his disappearance. It's like he's avoiding me, and this pains me very much so. Shortly the guys come back with some fish and fruit. Sasuke offered me a piece of fish after it was cooked, but I refused and took an apple instead. After I ate my apple I just watched the flames turn different colors. Red, orange, yellow at the tips, and blue-purple deep in the middle. Everyone began to settle down and some fell asleep. Saizo stayed awake as he was on watch.
I used my bag as a pillow, but faced away from the fire. I couldn't sleep as for I was afraid of having another nightmare. The images of the torture was still at the front of my mind. My body shivered at the thoughts. Kuroro laid in a ball next to me.
I finally decided to try and get some sleep. I closed my eyes, feeling the heat of the fire warm up my back. The soft quiet sounds of crickets chirping in the night lulled me to sleep.
When morning came, we were all awake, packed and ready to keep going. The sky was barely light by the sun's light. Saizo, Kortaro and Goemon are in front of me, as Heisuke and Sasuke are behind me. Kuroro was on my shoulder as I carried my bag.
We've been walking for hours, and the little sleep I got didn't help either. I couldn't sleep because of the torturing images plagued my mind, but also pain washed over my body all night. I just stayed quiet the whole time, not wanting to bother them. They probably think I'm a nuisance. Sasuke would talk to the others as I stayed mute.
Every once in awhile I would blink my eyes to keep myself awake. My muscles ached but I didn't dare say a word.
"Meow," I looked to my right to see Kuroro staring at me with her intense blue eyes. She was worried about me, but I didn't let it show. I felt a presence rub against my leg, and I looked down to see Entei. I turned to Kuroro and said,
"You may go play, just stay close." Kuroro leaped from my shoulder and ran with Entei. We were walking down a path surrounded by a field of flowers. A variety of colors, spreading for miles stopping at the tree line of the forests.
I stopped for a second to readjust my bag on my shoulder. The strap lay across my chest so it was a bit easier to carry. I think Sasuke noticed because he said,
"I can carry your bag?" I looked to him and replied,
"Thank you for the offer, but I can manage." Everyone stopped and looked at me.
"Are you hurting or tired? How about we take a break." Saizo spoke. I shook my head.
"I'm fine really, we're almost there so let's just keep going. There's no need to stop because of me, really." I began to walk as they just stood there staring at me. I don't wish to show them I'm weak. Then everyone will treat me like I'm a child.
I saw movement from the corner of my eye. I turned to see Kuroro and Entei playing in the field of flowers. Kuroro was running, but Entei jumped in the air and landed in front of her. They stopped and stared into each other's eyes. I noticed love spark between the two, and this brought a smile to my face.
Another few hours past and we made it to a small village. There was nobody out and about, it's was more like deserted. Many huts made a path that lead towards a hill, with a temple looking over the town. We walked up the hill/ stone steps to the large gateway into a courtyard surrounded by stone walls. And the temple was had many parts connecting to the main part.
We walked closer and a old man was waiting for us. He wore a red and yellow kimono. His hair was grey-white and was at his ears. The top of his head was bald, long mustache, thin eyebrows, and he had wrinkles. His eyes were squinted, I couldn't tell if he was actually looking at us.
"Welcome Kirigakure-san, I hope your travel was well. Was the mission successful?" The old man's wise wispy voice spoke.
"Hello old friend, I wish to ask for approval to stay awhile." Saizo replied bowing in respect.
"You do not have to ask, you may stay as long as you like. I will have my granddaughter Mikki show you to your rooms." Then I noticed a younger girl standing behind the wise man. She had to be thirteen maybe?
"Please follow me." She said quietly. Her hair was long and black, and she wore a pink kimono. We followed her inside, down many hallways. Damn this place is like a maze. Mikki showed the boys their rooms first. Then she showed me mine. My room was a little bigger than the one at my house. There was a large futon in the middle of the room, chests for clothes along the wall, and the walls were decorated with beautifully painted flowers.
"I hope you like the room princess." Mikki's voice spoke from behind me. I turned around and stopped her before she left.
"Mikki, please call me Katie." She didn't respond then left me within the silence of the empty room. I began to unpack my things and Kuroro stayed by my side. I opened the chest to see a bunch of clothes, but these clothes aren't like mine.
These are more traditional here in Japan. I picked one of the kimonos up, to have many images of my mother pop into my mind. Then I realized that these must have been my mothers. I wish she was here with me.
I placed my hand over the necklace as I thought of her. No matter where I go, I feel her presence as I wear the necklace.
'Follow you're heart my dear, it will lead the way.' I looked around at the sudden voice. Nothing but the empty room with candles lite. Maybe I imagined it or what? I held the necklace in my hand tightly and closed my eyes.
Please mom, dad if you can hear me....what do I do? I'm scared and am confused as to what I'm supposed to do. What can I, a mere human do to stop demons from destroying the entire world? What can I do....
