Judgement Day
"No," Keira shook her head.
"No, this isn't right. It can't be Lowery." she said. "He would never do something like this, he loves dinosaurs."
"Keira...the log ins, it's all him. They coincide with the deaths, he has access to the entire park throughout the day..." Owen frowned shaking his head. He didn't want to believe it was Lowery either, but with all the evidence pointing to him, he had no choice.
"But Jack ordered all those sedatives, that would mean they were in on this together." Keira pointed out.
"Or they could have had their separate reasoning and one was just caught sooner." Owen said.
"Lowery's my best friend." she said. "He helped us through the Indominus attack and through the InGen invasion. Why now?"
Owen sighed. "I don't know Keira. I don't have the answers. But it's nearly three o'clock in the morning and we both need sleep if we're going to handle this first thing in the morning."
Keira sat still for a moment before nodding her head and getting up to head to bed.
In the morning, Keira called Claire in as the parents arrived for breakfast. Claire came shortly after them with Zach in tow.
Claire looked over the log in sheet.
"Those are his numbers without a doubt." Claire said. "But I just don't get the motive behind it."
"Lowery wouldn't do something like that. " Zach said.
"But we can't explain it otherwise." Owen said.
"Why don't you talk to the young man?" Robert said walking over. "I ain't an expert on dinosaurs or anything, but he is a person and he has a right to defend himself."
"Dad's right," Owen said. "We have to at least confront him. We've known him too long not to give him a fair trial."
"But the evidence is right here." Claire said.
"But why would he give up information that would get him caught?" Zach asked.
"He had no other choice. Keira was right there." Claire retorted.
"We need to talk to him." Keira insisted. "I need to talk to him."
"Y-y-you think it was me?" Lowery asked looking up at all of them with a saddened face.
Keira handed him the log in sheets. "These are all your numbers Lowery."
His eyes scanned over the sheets. "I-I...no..it shows me logging into the the plains. I don't go out there. You remember when you took me to the plains Keira, what makes you believe that I would venture out there alone, let alone to the carnivore territory. Please Keira you know me better than this!"
Keira saw the pleading expression on his face. It reminded her of Jack when they kicked him off the island. She could feel her lower lip tremble as a lump in her throat developed.
"Why are you numbers on the log in sheet Lowery?" she cried.
"I don't know!" he said. "You have to believe me. I love this place, it's my home too. I stayed behind after Jurassic World went down didn't I? I've been doing everything for you guys to run this place smoothly."
"It's convenient that you couldn't get a program to run on the system you run constantly Lowery." Claire said.
"I don't know what happened there. Like I said I think there was a virus or something."
"A virus that you planted in the computer?" Claire said. "You were the one working on it Lowery."
"What motive do I have to do this?" He looked directly at Keira, she swallowed as tears streamed down her face. Owen moved her away.
"You guys can't even answer that!" Lowery said angrily.
"We don't have to!" Claire said. "We have enough evidence against you!"
"Bu-"
"Security, contain him." Claire said. Lowery fought as the two workers grabbed him.
"Keira, you know it wasn't me. I know you do!" he said. Owen pulled her into his chest protectively to face away from him before Lowery was dragged out of the room.
Keira sat in the control room moving the little dinosaurs around on Lowery's desk as Claire made arrangements to remove Lowery from the island.
"You can't just let them take him off the island." Zach approached her.
"I don't have much of a choice, do I?" she said.
"This is your sanctuary, you and Owen oversee everything. You can tell them to let him go."
"And what if it is him Zach? Do you want to lose anymore dinosaurs?" she asked him.
"He's your best friend. You know him better than anyone else. Do you honestly think Lowery is capable of doing something like this?"
She didn't answer.
"Keir-"
"Back off!" she said angrily. "I don't have any of the answers right now... I just need everyone to leave me alone!"
Zach scowled at her before storming off pushing Owen aside who came in.
"He's really hurtin' about Lowery isn't he?"
"He's not the only one." Keira muttered sitting back down.
Suddenly, Michelle bursted in. "Where's Lowery? Doug told me what happened."
"He's in containment." Keira said.
"What?!" she spat angrily. "You know he didn't do it!"
"Then who did?!" Keira yelled. "Someone tell me who fucking did it because right now I can't even point you in the right direction!"
Michelle drew back. Keira shook her head and walked out.
Alan and Ellie watched Keira stomp out and leave the main building. Alan looked at Lowery who was sitting in a room handcuffed to a chair.
"Alan, where are you going?"
"Just give me a minute Ellie."
He stepped inside the room and closed the door behind him. He took his hat off and pulled up a chair before the young man.
"Dr. Grant, please-"
Alan held his hand up silencing him.
"Right now, the gods are not smiling kindly down on you." Alan said.
"It wasn't me."
"Then who did it Lowery? Who else could perform the things you could? If you can say it isn't you, then you have to provide a name."
"I..I...I don't know." he held his head down.
"Then I can't help you Lowery."
"The soonest we can get a chopper out here is in two days." Claire said.
"Why two days?" Owen asked.
"The weather in Costa Rica isn't authorized flying weather. It's the green season, which means nasty storms."
Owen sighed. "I was hoping to get him out of here first thing in the morning. I want him out of sight and out of mind for Keira's sake."
"I understand but it's the best I can do."
"Thanks Claire."
"No problem. I just need this place to run without anymore problems."
"Amen to that."
Keira laid beside Owen that night, who was snoring lightly with his arm wrapped around her. Normally, his little snoring was rhythmic enough to soothe her to sleep but she couldn't sleep at all. She groaned to herself quietly before getting out of bed slowly to make sure Owen stayed asleep. Dino awoke and got up when he saw her moving around. He shook his body causing his collar to jingle.
"Sssh." she whispered to him. She glanced over to see Owen stir lightly in his sleep but he didn't awake. Dino looked at her waiting for her word.
She rolled her eyes. "Come on."
Lowery had fallen asleep in the chair as it was the only furniture in the room. He was startled awake as the door opened.
"Keira?"
She leaned against the door as if she were hesitating whether she should be there or not. Dino walked in and sat down.
"You can't even look at me." he sighed.
"Lowery, I want to believe it wasn't you. But-"
"I know everything points to me. But I swear I didn't do it. You told me that Owen said whoever was outside of the raptor paddock was really fast! When was the last time you ever saw me run!"
"Keep your voice down Lowery, you'll wake up the guards." she said.
"Your dad said that in order to clear my name I had to give my name. Keira you have to help me. I'm being framed! Look over the log in sheets again. Please."
"Okay!" she said. "Okay, I will."
"Thank you." he sighed. Dino made his way over and placed his head in Lowery's lap with a small whine.
