Chapter 8
‘Lexi,’ his husky, implacable voice pulled me out of my daze, and a deep frown marred my head.
How did he know my name?
Then I remembered that he’d scheduled this meeting with me, which means he must have found out everything about me beforehand. My brain lurched back into action when I recalled his greeting.
Without looking at him, I greeted him, tilting my head a little.
I felt his gaze slide over my profile, but I kept my attention trained on the file in front of me. My heart was racing in my chest, my stomach quivering madly until I was forced to start twisting the button on the wrist of my right sleeve.
‘Shall we begin?’ He asked. The question wasn’t directed at me, but his gaze didn’t leave my face.
The management team leader gets up and started to brief everyone on what the meeting was all about. Due to the bankruptcy my father faced over his company, I didn’t get the chance to go to college so I took online classes on interior designing to he Apparently, my job is to make their new company look presentable once the construction is over. It would be my job to bring in furniture, blinds, and other equipment that would make the interior look fascinating to everyone that walks in.
When he ended his speech, I stood up, appreciated them all for giving me the chance to prove myself and show them what I can do. Picking up the file in front of me, I walked towards Mr green eyes.
Awareness of him prickled across my skin. He was a compelling force, radiating a palpable energy and power that had me feeling restless. My breathing became as ragged, my heartbeat slamming against my ribcage. I felt that inexplicable pull to him again as if I was bound to him.
I placed the files in front of him, and my fingertip brushed the back of his hand momentarily, but it was enough to feel a jolt of electricity course through me. A gasp escaped my lip, my eyes flew to his face, and I find him watching me.
He felt it too.
Somehow, that relieved me, knowing I wasn’t the only one affected by the sexual tension between us. Everyone else seems oblivious to the silent interaction between us.
‘Thank you, miss Cornell’, he offered me a small smile as I walked back to my seat.
One by one, he accessed the pictures I had given to him and passed them to his team members, who also go through them with an occasional nod of their heads before placing them down.
‘What do you think, Matthew?’ Mr green eyes asked, turning his gaze to the leader of the HR team.
‘With all due respect, sir,’ Matthew begins. ‘I see nothing wrong with miss Cornell’s design, with the kind of creative ideas she has in mind, I am sure our new offices would look even better than the previous ones,’ the others nodded in agreement to his words.
‘If there are changes that need to be made to the design, I am sure Miss Cornell would be happy to make herself available for further discussion, right?’ He smiled at me, his eyes brightening up.
‘Of course, I would be more than happy to make amendments whenever it is required of me,’ I quickly put in.
Others nod their head in agreement as well.
‘Since we’ve all agreed to hire her for the job, then I suggest we end this meeting here so we can get back to other pressing matters,’ His voice was authoritative, leaving no room for arguments.
I push to my feet immediately, wanting to escape with the others because I could feel his gaze on me once again, but he beat me to it.
‘If you will excuse us, I would like to speak with miss Cornell in private,’ his smooth, smoky voiced halted my next step.
With everyone out of the room, I didn’t dare to look at him, so I fixed my gaze on the floor.
‘Lexi,’ the way he voiced my name in a caress made me think of the impossible. The butterflies in my stomach fluttered to life, flapping their wings incessantly.
The thought of sheet-tangling sex filled my mind at once and I swore under my breath at the effect he has on me. I don’t even know his name, yet I can’t stop myself from wanting to kiss him so much it hurts.
My mind is already messed up within just an hour of meeting him, I wonder what would happen now that I have to keep seeing him every day.
‘Lexi,’ he called again, his voice sounding closer, and I have no choice but to face him. I wanted to get this over with.
With a swift move, I turned around only to jump back at the sight of his face, the force sent me reeling back and he quickly grabbed me before I could even think of falling to the ground. This time, I didn’t just feel the jolt over my skin, I felt it deep down in my core.
I ducked my eyes in embarrassment, in a span of one hour, our encounter had been based on him saving me from falling. A worse way for a lady to be introduced to such an imposing man.
A glance at him fostered my embarrassment even a notch, he looked calm and collected, a contrast to how I am feeling.
‘Are you alright?’ he asked, his eyes searching my face for any sign of discomfort.
I was too embarrassed to form a word so I nod my head, he gently set me down but didn’t step away for fear that I might fall again. My cheek reddened at the memory, and I knew he was thinking the same thing with the way his body was alert and ready for anything.
‘I won’t fall,’ my voice brought his gaze to my face, he stared at me for a moment before stepping back.
‘Have a seat’, he pulled out a chair and gestured to it.
I was too attuned to him to risk sitting close to him, so I moved a few seats away from the one he held out for me and sat down. He shook his head and settled on the chair; his gaze fixed on me.
‘I believe a proper introduction should be the first thing we do, and since I already know your name, I would be the one doing most of the introduction,’ he stated.
My attention was piqued. I have been dying to know his name since our encounter in the elevator.
‘Aziz Mustafa, but you can call me Aziz.’
My eyes widened as soon as he mentioned his name. I originally thought he was just one beautiful, powerful man until I found out he is the owner of ABM.
And now, I just learned he is the richest man in all of DRAVILSBERG.
