Chapter 3: Caught
As they explore the cabin, they find an old fireplace with some wooden logs and kindling. Nile gets to work lighting a fire while Chloe searches for anything else of use.
Chloe finds an old blanket folded up in a corner, which she brings over to Nile. Together, they manage to start get a small fire going; the warmth from the flames slowly spreading through the cabin. Despite the creepy atmostphere, Chloe felt a little more comfort with the glow of the fireplace illuminating the wooden walls.
A chill blows in from a cracked window.
"There is only one blanket, so we'll have to share," she says, a teasing note in her voice. Without waiting for Nile's response, she starts making her way over to him, her heart beating a little faster. Before she can reach him, however, Nile turns away, "or we could play a game of rock-paper-scissors to decide who gets it." He suggests, his voice oddly quiet.
Chloe rolls her eyes, "Moron, we're in wet clothes. If we did that one of us would catch a cold." Chloe moves to sit beside Nile in front of the fire, leaning against him slightly as she wraps the blanket around their shoulders. The warmth from the fire feels good against her damp clothes. Nile glances over at her, his eyes softening for a moment before he looks away, focusing on the fire instead. As they sit there in silence, listening to the tain pounding against the roof of the cabin, Chloe feels a strange sense of comfort wash over her. She leans her head against Nile'a shoulder, her eyes drifting shut as she let's out a contented sigh.
Nile's heart is beating fast, and he feels a warmth spreading through him as he realizes that Chloe is trusting him enough to lean on him. He gently places his arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer to him. He looks down at her small slumbering frame. For a moment, they sit there in silence, the only sound being the rain and their shared breathing.
Bang!
Chloe's eyes snap open, her heart racing. She can feel the adrenaline coursing through her veins as she looks around, trying to figure out where the sound came from. Her gaze lands on Nile, who seems somewhat startled as well. Nile glances at her softly, "Have you always been scared of thunder?" He asks.
Chloe nods, swallowing hard. "Yeah... It's stupid, I know. But everytime I hear it, it just freaks me out." She admits, feeling a blush creep onto her cheeks.
Nile reassuringly places his hand on hers, "we're safe here." He looks at her seriously before adding a small smirk, "and if you get really scared, you can always cuddle up to me."
Chloe blushes even more, her eyes widening in surprise. She looks away feeling a mix of embarrassment and gratitude. "T-thank you," she manages to say softly. Nile chuckles softly, his gaze warm as he looks at her.
"We're already sharing a blanket after all."
They sit in silence for a while, lost in their thoughts as the rain continues to pound against the roof of the cabin. Gradually, the thunderstorm begins to die down, and the rain starts to slow to a trickle. The two were asleep, their bodies pressed close together under the blanket. Nile's arm was around Chloe's shoulders, holding her close to him. Chloe's head was resting on Nile's chest, her breathing slow and steady.
As the morning sun began to peek through thr windows of the cabin, Nile slowly woke up, He could feel Chloe's breathing change as she stirred beside him, her cheek still resting against his chest. Nile gently brushes a strand of hair away from her face, "Good morning Chloe," he whispers, his voice barely above a whisper.
Chloe's eyes flutter open slowly, blinking at Nile with a sleepy smile. "Morning, Nile," she yawns, stretching out lazily. "Feels like we slept through the storm."
Nile nods, his fingers tracing gentle circles on her back as he looks out the window. "Yeah, it's over. The rain has stopped," he says softly.
Chloe stands up, "we should probably get going then. I suppose you technically did catch me, so I owe you a battle right?"
Nile looks up thoughtfully, "well I wouldn't say that. It was more like a tie." He smirks, "but if your offering I'll take you up on the offer." He grins, his competitive spirit starting to stir.
He looks back to Chloe, but she's gone.
He hears shouting in the distance, "come and catch me Mr.Fisherman!"
Nile rolls his eyes, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Alright then, let's do this!" He says, standing up and making hus way over to where Chloe is. As he approaches, he sees her standing on top of a rock, her beyblade ready in her hand.
