Chapter 2: Catch
Chloe runs through the woods, her very short and nimble figure easily navigating through the trees and underbrush. She knows that Nile is a skilled beyblader, but she's also confident in her own abilities. Besides, he still has to catch her first before they battle. Chloe continues running, her breaths coming in short bursts as she tries to lose Nile. She glances back once to make sure he hasn'tcaught up yet, but dosn't see him. "Good he's still behind," she thinks to herself accompanied with an audible sigh.
Chloe furrows her brow as she looks in the direction of the stream, "what was with that lame "fishing for information" bit from last chapter? Was he trying to sound cool or something??" Chloe shakes her head, "whatever... I said something ridiculous too. Come catch me? What was I thinking?" Chloe lets out a small groan, shaking her head as if attemptig to rid herself of her embarassing speech.
Chloe hears a voice behind her. It's Nile, his tone cocky and teasing. "Don't worry about it Chloe. We all have our weak moments!"
She whips around to see Nile leaning against a tree, arms crossed, smirking smugly. Chloe blushes, her cheeks burning with a mix of embarrassment and anger. She can't believe he caught up to her so quickly, and managed to hear everything. "I don't know what you're talking about," she lies, trying to hide her frustration.
Nile smirks, clearly not buying her act. "Oh, come on Chloe. You can't deny what we both heard. Besides, we all have those weak moments where we reveal more than we intended to." He says his tone reassuring yet playful.
Chloe grits her teeth feeling both frustrated and annoyed by Nile's persistence. Without thinking twice, she reaches into her pocket and hurls a small pebble in his direction. Her aim is true, and the pebble hits him square in the chest, causing him to stumble back slightly. Chloe feels a surge of triumph as she watches Nile stumble back. She grins, her eyes filled with a defiant determination. "That's what you get for making fun of me Nile," she says her voice cold and mocking.
Nile bursts out laughing, his whole body shaking with mirth. He wipes a tear from his eye, "has anyone told you, you have the tempermant of a swan in a hurricane?"
"Shut up..." Chloe mumbles pouting.
Suddenly, a loud rustling noise comes from behind a nearby bush. Both Nile and Chloe freeze, their bodies tense in anticipation. Without saying a word, they both slowly edge closer to the bush, their beyblades at the ready. As thry get closer, they can see that something is moving inside the bush. As they peer in they see a small animal, a rabbit, hopping around nervously. Both Nile and Chloe relax their muscles, letting out a sigh of relief. They share a small laugh at their paranoia before turning back to eachother. "So, what now?" Nile says plainly.
"I'm tired, let's finish this tommorow," Chloe says folding her arms. Nile silently nods in agreement.
Just then, a raindrop hits Chloe's nose; Chloe looks up at the sky, frowning slightly. "Great," she mutters under her breath. "It looks like it's going to rain." She glances over at Nile, noticing that he seems unfazed ny the impending weather change. "It's getting pretty dark too. We should probably find somewhere to take shelter before it really starts pouring." She looks around, trying to spot a suitable location. "Do you know of any good places around here? ... Wait, where is here?"
Nile shrugs, his brows furrowed in thought. "To be honest, I'm not really sure. I've been traveling through so many different places lately that they all staart to blend together after a while." He glances around, trying to get his bearings.
The rain starts to pick up, the sky growing darker by the minute. "We don't have much time to waste then," Chloe says, her voice tinged with urgency. "Come on, let's keep moving and see if we can find somewhere before it really starts pouring down."
The two start walking through the thick forest, their eyes scanning their surroundings for any signs of shelter.
...
They continue walking, their steps quickening as the rain begins to fall harder. After a few minutes of searching, they spot a small cabin tucked away in the woods. It looks rundown and abandoned, but it's better than nothing.
Chloe and Nile approach the cabin cautiously, their beyblades at the ready. As they get closer, they can see that the door is slightly ajar. Nile slowly pushes the door open, revealing a dark and musty interior. The floorboards creak under their feet as they step inside. Chloe feels a chill run down her spine as she realizes something feels off about this place. The air is stale, and there's an odd smell lingering in the room. She glances over at Nile, eho seems unphased by the strange atmostphere.
"Do you think it's safe to stay here?" Chloe whispers.
Suddenly a loud boom of thunder echoes throughout the cabin, followed by a flash of lightning that illuminates the interior. Startled, Chloe jumps back, her heart racing. The thunder continues to rumble in the distance as Chloe take's a moment to catch her breath.
"I guess we don't have much of a choice," Nile mumbles hesitantly.
