Chapter Nine: The Great Escape
Everyone kept quiet in their cave until they knew Elementus's foot soldiers were gone. Once Damon knew he was safe, he sighed and sat down, hugging his knees to his chest. He pressed the button on his watch, deactivating his suit. Everyone else sat down along with Damon. Suddenly, rumbling from outside shook the earth and everything around them. Cracks formed on the cave walls. The ground split, and everyone got up and jumped to one side. Cracks spread out across the inner walls of the cave, allowing in the sunlight. They all rushed out of the cave, frantically searching their surroundings. There were cracks and flaming craters in the ground. Everyone looked up.
Meteors.
Meteors were falling from the skies. Bullet grabbed the rest of his team, one by one, and moved them to high ground, which was the tip of the mountain Drew had taken refuge in. They looked all around, witnessing the destruction of everything around them. Drew's followers were scrambling to find safety, some of them heading towards the Nightwatchers's location. Some were getting to close for comfort. They were forced to fight them off.
Dart threw darts at the closest to the peak. Rogue knew to be careful with dark matter since one missed shot could destroy the whole mountain, so he took off down the mountain, punching foot soldiers and knocking them off. Traverse flew upwards, screeching loud enough and hard enough to make a human rock slide. Bullet went down to the base and tried to keep them from going up the mountain. Fang sniped others with her heat vision.
Soon, every one of Drew's civilization was dead. Everyone made it back to the peak. A whooshing sound drowned out the meteors crashing, and Elementus slammed down in the middle of the team. He stood up and looked at Dart.
"I see you made it out fine," he said.
"Drew. We can make it out of here. Keith has fully recovered and we still have the-- " Dart stopped himself mid-sentence because he had no idea where the particle stabilizer was.
"I believe you are looking for this?" Elementus taunted, holding up the particle stabilizer. Bullet rushed over and tried pressing in as hard as he could on a pressure-point, attempting to make Elementus drop the device. He simply discarded it. Elementus tossed the device into the air, elbowed Bullet in the gut, causing him to double over. He followed up with a knee to the chin and a shove to the ground. Bullet's mask cracked, and his eyeholes had broken. He lied on the ground, clenching his stomach for Elementus had broken a rib.
"You cannot fight me," he said. "I will surely win."
Dart threw a dart at Elementus, but he caught it. Drew grinned behind his mask, up until the point the dart exploded in his hand, burning it and blinding him.
Dart kicked Elementus in the side of the head and Traverse jumped an extreme height, landing on Elementus's back. Traverse knelt down, one foot still on his back.
"Stop fighting," he said. "It's over."
"It's only just begun."
"Everyone get down!" Dart ordered. But before anyone could get down, a wave of an enormous force of gravity blew them off the mountain. They all managed to land safely, but still injured. Elementus was down the mountain already.
"I can control the elements," he informed. "Wind. Fire. Earth. Water. I control it all. I'm going to finish you off. One. By. One."
Another wave of meteors crashed down around them. Dinosaurs roared and cried out in pain. Velociraptors were running around, searching for safety. But this is the end. Soon, nearly all life would be wiped from the face of the earth. They needed to go back. Back to their normal time. Back to the future.
"Drew," Dart grunted. "We will all die unless you help us. Please. Remember? All the dinosaurs died to a massive meteor storm. Look around you. Can't you tell?"
Elementus stopped. He looked around, noticing all the destruction around him. Dart got up, slowly advancing towards his brother.
"Please," he begged.
Green light outlined Drew's body. It turned red, then white. This was it. He finally cleansed of the voice that brought him here.
"Go," he said. "I'll shield you. Take the particle stabilizer. Keith, be ready to run." He tossed the particle stabilizer to Damon and took off his mask.
"Good-bye."
He wrapped the team in a bubble of wind, warding off any incoming debris or meteor. Drew was getting hit pretty bad, but he still managed to protect the Nightwatchers. Damon turned on the particle stabilizer and Keith vibrated as fast as he could. Soon, the portal opened. Everyone jumped in except for Damon and Noelle.
"Come on, Damon. He's gone. We have to go," Noelle pleaded.
"No, we can still save him!" Damon protested.
Noelle grabbed Damon and pulled him into the portal.
"No! No! Noooooooo!"
Darkness consumed his vision, and he blacked out.
