043.
WHEN LANA AWOKE, she was in a van. Steve sat beside her with Sam behind and the Wakandan prince in front. She tugged at the cuffs that were still binding her wrists, "What the hell is this?"
"Calm down. What the hell happened back there?" Steve asked.
"Nothing."
"Don't lie. You already lied once."
She hesitated, "I don't know. It started happening after Ultron. Whatever he gave me... it did something. I feel fine and then I go into this state where my mind isn't my own and it isn't me controlling it anymore," she whispered, "The first time it happened I completely ruined the apartment."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Why would I? I've said this before, the last time my powers were out of hand, after New York, it's things like this that makes me dangerous. And it's things like this that bring up the record I have. And trust me. It's bad. Worse than Natasha's. So I told no one," she said.
Steve sighed and took her hand as they pulled up to a facility. They got out and Steve saw Bucky in some kind of cage.
Lana saw Sharon standing with a few men, three in uniforms and one in a suit.
"What's gonna happen to him?" Steve asked as he walked forward.
"Same thing that ought to happen to you," the suited man replied as he glanced between Lana and Steve, "Psychological evaluation and extradition."
Lana was horrified, "What?"
"This is Everett Ross, Deputy Task Force Commander," Sharon introduced.
Steve looked him up and down, "What about a lawyer?"
"Lawyer. That's funny," the man chuckled, "See their weapons are placed in lockup. We'll write you a receipt." Guards came and took Steve's shield and Sam's wings.
"I better not look out the window and see anybody flying around in that," Sam said.
Lana raised her hands that were still cuffed, "What about me?"
"You are a weapon, those stay on," Everett said.
Lana swallowed thickly. This brought her back to the first time she was in S.H.I.E.L.D. They had cuffed her so she wouldn't be able to either harm them or gather intel. She brushed away her thoughts as she followed Steve and Sam.
"You'll be provided with an office, instead of a cell. Now do me a favour stay in it?" Everett said. The group were walking along a corridor with a team of soldiers flanking them. It was making Lana feel like a prisoner even more than the cuffs were.
"I don't intend on going anywhere," T'challa said. Lana looked up as Steve nudged her. She saw her sister walking towards her.
"For the record, this is what making things worse looks like," Natasha said as she turned and walked the way she came with Lana beside her.
"He's alive," Steve replied.
"Hey, Lana," Natasha smiled.
"Hey Nat," Lana gave her a weak smile and only then did the older woman notice the cuffs.
Natahsa looked at the guards, "Get these things off her."
"No can do, Ms Romanoff, your sister's dangerous," Everett said as they walked into a room.
"Romania was not Accord-sanctioned," Lana heard Tony say, "Colonel Rhodes is supervising cleanup."
"Try not to break anything while we fix this," Natasha spoke.
Lana scoffed, "How can I when these cuffs are cutting off the circulation to my hands?" She sat in one of the chairs as Tony continued to speak on the phone.
"Consequences? You bet there'll be consequences. Obviously, you can quote me on that, cause I just said it. Anything else? Thank you, sir."
"Consequences?" Steve quoted.
"Secretary Ross wants the three of you prosecuted. He'ss even considering throwing in Lana's past years, had to give him something," Tony explained.
"Is he?" Lana asked worriedly.
"No," Tony shook his head as he came over to her. He patted her on the shoulder as they sagged in relief.
"I'm not getting that shield back, am I?" Steve asked.
"Technically it's the governmant's property. Wings too," Natahsa replied.
"Taht's cold," Sam shook his head.
Tony called back, "Warmer than jail."
Lana fiddled with the cuffs before groaning.
