Siren Song

The ability to look at a snapshot in time objectively is a gift.

To view a scene for what it is, and not just what we expect it to be,

and to take in the colours through your eyes, the music through your ears,

and the sensation through your skin.

To see people for who they are in the moment,

     for all we have

are those who we can trust in the moment...

The cherry blossoms and tulips are currently in bloom around the town.

It is 64 degrees Fahrenheit outside, with a slight wind chill.

The kids gather in a dense group, talking and laughing, yet all consumed in their own lives.

Soline is so much more quiet in social situations like this one, especially because she doesn't want to be caught in small talk. From afar, Arthur watches as Soline's friend Hadley waves her over to where she is standing near the bleachers. Hadley is with her twin sister, Grace.

Hadley greets Soline in the standard way that girls so often use, shouting playfully, in a voice that floats over all others, "Heyyy girl, how's it going?", "I missed you so much," and, "I LOVE your hair, how did you get so gorgeous???" Hadley hasn't seen Soline for a few months, because they've been going to different schools, but Hadley is visiting their school today.

"...I don't know," Soline laughs conversationally with a wandering gaze.

Hadley feels progressively better as more eyes are drawn to her.

Soline tries not to let her strange sense of humor get the best of her, but if she were honest, many social situations are funny to her in a way that other people don't usually pick up on.

Soline has clear, rosy skin, which is right now slightly more sun-kissed from being outside. She has a delicate face with a pointed chin, periwinkle eyes, and long eyelashes. She has a slender build and long legs. Her mouth is twisted into a lopsided (yet attractive) smirk that often says, "I'm right and you know it..."

Hadley Greene is like a ray of sunshine, almost as if she has a golden ray of light surrounding her. She has silky blonde hair, skin like a porcelain doll, blue eyes, and a red pullover draped around her, with her last name, "Greene," printed on the back. She wears glittering nail polish in alternating colours.

Arthur's mother had said to both of her kids one day, "why can't there be more kids like Hadley?"

If Hadley were the day, her sister would be the night.

Grace Greene is quiet and somewhat mysterious. She is tall and thin, and can often be seen innocently staring at her phone.

Her brown hair is swept behind her in the wind, with a headband encircling her forehead, her eyes are covered by sunglasses, and draped over her chest are an array of cheap party necklaces. She plays bass guitar, is a sprinter, and is talented at leaving places exceptionally quickly.

The girls talk until about 5:30 P.M., and Arthur hangs out with their older brother. Later, they all drive home together.
