23. Wakey Wakey
"I'm glad both of you could make it tonight. This was truly an amazing dinner. Thank you both." Lord Asher said as he said goodbye to his guests.
"It was an honour getting to know you. I'm the one glad I got invited. And the food was amazing. Thank you." Bonnie shook the man's hand and smiled at Sheryl, who decided to leave later in the evening. The woman stepped forward and to Bonnie's surprise, threw her arms around Bonnie.
"You're a really lovely young woman, Bonnie. I'm happy I've met you." Her words made Bonnie smile. Genuinely smile. She's never met a woman, except Rosie, this nice to her. It was unfamiliar.
"Thank you, Sheryl. I'm happy too." They drew apart. Zion hugged Maddox and went to hug his mother. Bonnie stepped aside and tried not to seem like a creep while silently watching mother and son embraced.
"I'm happy you could make it, Zion. You're too busy all the time." Zion heard his mother say as he pulled away from her. He knew he was always busy, but that was his life.
"I know, mother." He sighed before stepping back and looking at Bonnie next to him.
"You ready?" He asked her. She nodded in answer.
"Drive safely and slow, Zion!" His mother called after them. From the corner of her eye, Bonnie saw Zion shake his head. She narrowed her eyes at him. She knew she was no one to talk about a healthy relationship with their mother, but something about them was off. She didn't know what, but she knew it shouldn't interest her.
So she followed him to his sport's car in silence. To her surprise, he held the passenger door open for her. Bonnie thanked him and climbed into the car. A second later they were pulling out of the Lord's driveway.
"Are you slowly turning into a gentleman?" Bonnie asked, deciding to break the silence.
"Don't get used to it. My mother was watching." Zion answered, sounding not so angry anymore.
She'd have to view him as an actual robot if he still carried the same mood as before the dinner. Because being in Lord Asher's and Sheryl's company made one feel grateful and just lifted the mood. Never in a million years would Bonnie have thought this night would turn out so wonderful.
A yawn escaped her lips as she turned her head to watch the scenery outside the window. It was so dark and the streets were empty. She wondered what time it was, but was too lazy to lift her hand and take out her phone.
"Don't you fall asleep in here. We're almost there." She heard him say right before her eyelids felt too heavy. In a heartbeat, she was asleep. Just like that, Zion thought perplexed.
"Ebony." He snapped, but she only stirred in her sleep. Well, so much to simply dropping her off. Now he had to touch and shake her once they reached her apartment. He was trying to avoid any interaction with her after the dinner. She found out enough about him in just three hours.
He still couldn't believe his uncle told her about the damn summer camp. It was supposed to stay between Maddox and him. But of course now she knew of that story too. He saw her take a few sips of her wine, so maybe she wasn't going to remember it the next day.
Who was he kidding? She took like two sips. He counted because when she first drank it, he realized she wasn't pregnant yet if she was drinking. He wondered why she was drinking anyways if she was trying so desperately to get pregnant.
But then again, it was two sips. Zion sighed before glancing at her again. Such a weird creature. Each day with her, was constantly causing him more and more confusion. Was it her or was he just getting stupid? Was it the age? He sure felt it in his spine. Last time he tried to bend down in order to tie his shoe laces, he ended up on the ground. Still no idea what the fuck happened.
He admired her youth. Being 21 seemed so long ago for him. Now that he was thinking about her age, their age gap suddenly bothered him. He was 32 for fuck's sake. What was he doing with a 21 year old? Eleven years, damn it. Could she not have chosen to blackmail a guy her age?
Was that why she thought his designs were boring? Because he was born a decade earlier than her? Man, he needed to get this girl pregnant and avoid her for the rest of his life.
He already knew too much about her. More than necessary. Thanks to the internet, his curiosity and tonight's dinner. Which reminded him of the question that kept playing in his mind during dinner. Was he Bonnie's first kiss?
"Ebony." Zion called out when he saw her apartment complex pop up. Finally, he thought. Bonnie stirred next to him, but her eyes were still closed.
"Wake up."
She moaned before opening her eyes slowly. Zion's breath hitched. Her moan sounded way too familiar, he thought as his pants suddenly felt tighter.
"Are we here yet?" Bonnie sat up and yawned again.
"Almost." Zion answered, picking up speed. He parked the car across the street from her building and looked at Bonnie.
"Well, thanks for-"
"Was I your first kiss?" He interrupted her, unable to let go of that. Bonnie's eyes widened and she felt heat rush up her cheeks.
"Where did that come from?" Of course, you idiot, was what she actually wanted to say. But he didn't need to know that.
"You're avoiding the question." The man even seemed smug about it! Bonnie scoffed before undoing her seatbelt.
"I'm too tired for this." She told him as she opened the door and climbed out.
Zion watched her cross the street in a fast pace. He had a small smirk playing on his lips. Her sudden escape was enough answer to him. But that only brought up another question he had no answer to.
Why the heck did he feel so good about it?
Author's note: Why do you think he felt so smug about it?
