Prologue: We Don't Bite
There was only darkness, pitch black darkness as the young boy was held onto his shoulders by two big hands, giving him a soft squeeze. He slowly walked on a tiled floor while those hands gently pushed him forwards.
"Where are we going?" The young boy asked, feeling the palms pat his small back.
"You'll see." A voice of a man replied, which was deep but soft.
The boy's thoughts dwelled on fear, because he could not see anything as a thick scarf was wrapped around his face, covering his eyes. Then those large hands suddenly lifted him up, the boy feeling his feet leave the ground.
"Up you go." The man said and he was able to feel the ground again, but this time it wasn't made of concrete. It was wood.
"Go on." The man gently pushed the boy forwards after he had stepped up on the platform himself.
The little boy was always afraid of everything. Even when he was at school he would always cry at the simplest of things, but this was mainly because of his older brother, who had been making his life more miserable than hell itself.
He was tormented every single day, and his brother thought that it was only fun and games when he pulled pranks on him. The impact on the boy was far worse than his brother ever thought of: it was traumatizing him emotionally.
Suddenly, the boy started crying, afraid of what was waiting at the end of this walk he was treading. He urged himself to be brave, telling himself that it was just nothing.
Keep calm, everything's going to be fine. He said to himself, but he just couldn't remove the idea that it could be another terrible joke his brother had planned.
"Okay," the man who was guiding him suddenly stopped him from walking, making him stand still where he was at. The little boy trembled on the spot as he felt fingers working around the knot of his blindfold, attempting to loosen them. "Here we go!"
And without any more stalling, the man took off the blindfold. Bright light shone through the boy's closed eyelids the second the scarf was removed.
He slowly opened his eyes, letting the light inch by inch as his blurred vision cleared. The first thing he was able to make out were people standing in front of him. They were standing on a lower ground compared to him. They were all looking at him, and all of them had smiles on their faces.
Then he was able to see a lot of tables and chairs, almost each of the seats had a bundle of colorful balloons tied to them. The place was familiar: the walls were painted white, the floor was made of small black and white tiles, and there was the all too familiar arcade at the corner of the hall. He saw drawings on the wall, most of them were about a yellow bear and rabbit. It made him tremble a bit upon recognizing where he was at. It had always been every child's hangout after school, and he was not an exception, he had always been here since his father worked here.
Fredbear's Family Diner.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EVAN!" The group of people shouted in unison, making the kid's heart jump with excitement.
It was his birthday.
Little Evan smiled the widest as the confetti launched into the air and the party horns were blown. As the rhythm of the song rang through his ear, he saw his parents at the far end of the hall, both of them were holding a very large cake made of white chocolate. His father took out a lighter and lit the seven candles.
Evan couldn't help but squeal with joy while he watched his parents walk towards him. They stepped up the platform and brought the cake nearer to him, close to his face.
"Happy Birthday, Evan." His mom said, who was wearing a pink polka dot blouse with matching black slacks, blonde hair fixed into a ponytail. She gave him a pinch on his cheeks.
"Hey, sport." His father patted his head, wearing his office suit since he came straight from work.
"Mom! Dad!" Evan cried, "I can't believe you both came!" He exclaimed, hugging both of them tightly.
"I wouldn't miss my little tyke's birthday for the world." His father said, putting on a party hat on top of his son's head and putting the thin strip of garter under his chin.
"Ow! Dad! My head!" Evan joked and his father laughed.
"Now blow your candles out!" His mom said, "And make a wish."
Evan closed his eyes tightly, excitedly trembling at the spot, thinking of his wish that only he and he only knew. Then he gently blew out the seven candles, hoping that someday his wish would come true.
The crowd cheered, with flashes of cameras capturing the moment.
Then, to Evan's surprise, he was suddenly hugged from behind. "Happy birthday, Evan!" A familiar, female voice cried.
Evan turned around to see two familiar faces: his little sister, who was the one to hug him, Lizzie, and another girl around his age, with long straight, long black hair, rosy cheeks, and bright brown eyes, wearing a yellow shirt with the infamous Fredbear on it.
"Cassidy?" Evan asked, his cheeks heating up. Then, he grinned and hugged the second girl tightly. "You came!"
Cassidy laughed, hugging him back. "Of course I did! I promised, didn't I?"
Lizzie scowled, looking dismayed. "Hey! I hugged you first!"
"Now, now, Elizabeth." Evan's dad, William, said calmly. "No need to get jealous on your brother's birthday."
Lizzie pouted, crossing her arms. "Yes, Daddy…"
"I'm sorry, Lizzie." Evan said softly, hugging his sister next. "Please don't be mad." He then kissed her on the cheek, making Lizzie giggle. "There's that smile!"
"Okay, okay. I forgive you." Lizzie laughed.
Then, the speakers that were hanging on the walls began blasting a very familiar tune that little boys and girls alike shouted in excitement for.
The Toreador March.
Cassidy gasped, holding onto Evan's shoulder, excited about the arrival of her favorite animatronic. "It's time!"
"Everyone!" said one of the hosts, "Give it up for Fredbear and Spring Bonnie!"
Evan clapped, but in the back of his mind he was nervous, as the past few days he spent there were terrifying. He was left there all alone, locked in a storage room with severed animatronic heads, and he felt that they were all looking at him, all of it done by his brother, who had always bullied him right from the start.
There was the sound of curtains being pulled away from behind him. The little boy turned around to see two towering animatronics moving behind him: Spring Bonnie and Fredbear. Spring Bonnie was holding a red guitar while Fredbear was holding a microphone, moving in place as its mouth opened, a happy birthday song coming out from the speakers inside.
To others it was nothing, but to Evan, it was his nightmare.
He was smiling, but inside he was terrified. He closed his eyes tightly, ignoring the sounds of the cheerful people and hearing only his own voice echoing inside his head.
It's just a dream, it's not real. It's not real… It's not real.
Evan opened his eyes once again, but he was alone, the crowd that was cheering for him earlier was no longer there with him, not even Lizzie and Cassidy. "Hello?" He called out, his voice echoing through the empty halls of the diner.
He looked down at his own shadow and saw a bigger shadow emerging from behind him, covering the spotlight that was shining on him. He gasped, his heart beating faster than it had been before, a knot forming in his throat as he slowly turned around.
It made his blood run cold.
Standing behind him was a terrifying monster made of metal and yellow fur, its head was huge and out of proportion to its body. Its mouth had two rows of extremely long, sharp, blooded teeth on both the upper part and jaw. Its eyes were glowing fiery red, looking at him with a desire to harm. It was a demonic incarnation of Fredbear.
The creature lunged at him with a deep, loud and gurgled roar.
The boy screamed, shielding himself with his arms.
"Evan!" He heard his father yell, then he felt hands hold onto his shoulder and begin shaking him, "EVAN!"
He opened his eyes, and the diner was once again filled with people, all were frozen in shock and looking at him. Everyone was silent, not even a single murmur was heard. Cassidy and Lizzie stood there, looking incredibly frightened by Evan's outburst. His father and mother were kneeling in front of him. His mom was trembling, her hands on his shoulder and so was his dad's, who had pulled him out of his terrible trance.
"Son, are you alright?" His father asked, wiping away the tears from his cheeks. "Maybe we should call off the party."
Evan shook his head, signaling no, "I'm fine, really. I just get paranoid sometimes."
"Mind telling us why?" His mother joined in, her eyes filled with fear and concern.
"It's nothing." He cracked a smile.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Okay." His father stood up and signaled the hosts to move on with the party. The music resumed and the audience slowly returned to what they were doing: Chatting with others, eating, waiting for their food to be served and taking pictures with the roaming animatronics.
Evan turned to go to the arcade, but Cassidy suddenly held his hand.
"Evan, are you sure you're okay?" Cassidy whispered. "You… you looked really scared. As if something was trying to get you."
A chill went down Evan's spine at Cassidy's words, but he put on a smile anyway, dismissing her worries. "Don't worry, Cassie, I'm okay."
"Honest?" Cassidy asked, her brown eyes filled with worry.
Evan smiled and nodded. "Honest."
Cassidy looked like she wanted to interrogate him further, but seemed to think better of it. "Well… okay. Wanna go play Plushtrap Chaser?"
Evan grinned and nodded. "Sure! Let's go!"
The party went on for hours, and Evan was enjoying himself, playing with his classmates and close friends in games hosted by the diner. Everything went well like he wanted it.
The kids once again sat back to the long table waiting for their dinner to be served. They were restless and noisy, the mindless chatter of the children and adults filled the place. The cake was cut and most of the children stuck their fingers in it to get a chunk of icing not to eat it, but to wipe it on the birthday boy's face. The kid enjoyed it even though it got to his ears and nose, ignoring the gross feeling of it.
After the fun died down, Evan stood up and excused himself to go to the john, wanting to wash his frosting filled face that was starting to make his skin feel sticky.
He traveled a long corridor that leads to the restrooms, humming the toreador march as he walked. He pushed open the heavy doors of the men's room and went inside, finding himself staring at a mirror that was placed over the sink facing the door.
The place was quiet and brightly lit, it had the same checkered floor tile pattern as the entire place. He went to one of the sinks and looked at his reflection in the mirror, only seeing his head since he was short. His face had smears of dried white chocolate frosting, his neck even had it.
He chuckled and cupped his hands under the faucet that sprouted lukewarm water before splashing it to his face.
"Evan…"
A soft whisper echoed inside the restroom, making the boy stop what he was doing. He looked at the urinals but there was no one there.
"Who's there?" The boy asked, but no one replied. "Who's there?" He called again, walking towards the first stall and pushing open the door. It made a loud creak as Evan looked inside: there was nothing but the toilet bowl.
"I must be out of my mind." He laughed, shaking his head and brushing it off.
He turned around and there was a loud, high-pitched yell that made his heart leap to his throat, along with a tall figure lunging at him. Evan screamed and got a glimpse of what was about to attack him.
Foxy.
"NO!" He yelled, shielding himself.
But it didn't do anything to him, much to Evan's surprise. Instead, a loud, mocking laughter came from Foxy. It was then he realized that it was just his brother in a mask that he had been using for the past few days.
"Mike, please stop!" Evan cried, his face buried in his hands, "This has gone too far, please."
But his brother laughed some more, teasing him with the Foxy mask he was wearing, making noises that terrified the poor child even more. "You're such a baby, you know that?" He said, pushing Evan to the floor, sending him falling on his back.
"I'm your brother!" Evan snarled, rising up on his elbows, "Why are you doing this to me?!"
Then three more people entered the scene, bursting through the door and standing behind Mike. It was not a rescue for the little boy, it was his brother's friends who were all wearing masks of Freddy Fazbear, Chica and Bonnie. They were sharing the joy of tormenting him.
"Wow, your brother is kind of a baby, isn't he?" Kyle said, who was wearing the Bonnie mask.
Mike scoffed, "It's hilarious."
"Why don't we help him get a closer look at Fredbear? He'll love it!" Cody said, who was in the Freddy mask, nudging his friend and making a soft and sinister snicker.
"Let's do it!" said Justin, in the Chica mask. The four friends picked up Evan and held him up by his arms, preventing his feet from touching the ground. He thrashed and struggled, but his brother's and Kyle's grip were too strong for him to break free of.
"No! Please!" Evan screamed as he was taken out of the restroom and brought back to the dining area. He was helpless, crying loudly but no one seemed to pay attention, not even the guests. They dismissed it, assuming that it was just a prank.
Evan froze in terror as they approached the dancing Fredbear on the stage, each step they made had his heart pounding like crazy. He felt his temples throbbing erratically, his breathing becoming shallower and his throat running dry.
"PLEASE LET ME GO!" He screamed again but the teens pretended to hear nothing, still carrying him to the animatronic. He bawled in their arms but the teens pushed forward until they reached the bottom of the stage.
"Come on, guys, let's give this little man a lift. He wants to get up close and personal!" Mike grinned and the other three laughed.
"No! I don't want to go!" Evan pleaded, seeing Fredbear open and then close its mouth.
"You heard the little man! He wants to get even closer!" Cody laughed.
"Hey guys, I think the little man said he wants to give Fredbear a big kiss!" Mike smirked, grabbing hold on Evan's arm and slowly began swinging him towards the mouth of the animatronic. "On THREE! One..."
Evan looked at Fredbear as he was swinging towards its mouth filled with fake plastic teeth, his nightmare had been realized. He had no way out of this.
"...Two..." They swung him even more.
The little boy cried louder, feeling his nose touch the lower jaw of the bear. Then the Fredbear that was in front of him suddenly turned into its demonic appearance he saw earlier, opening its sharp-toothed mouth waiting for him. The poor boy just shut his eyes as the teens counted the last number.
"THREE!"
They let go of him and he was launched towards Fredbear. His head went inside its mouth and stuck there jamming between the upper head and the jaw. Evan was inside the mouth, feeling the cold inner set of endoskeleton teeth pressing into his cheeks. "LET ME OUT!" He screamed, trying to pry open the jaw that was locked around his head.
"Look at him go!" Justin laughed, pointing at the struggling kid before them.
Evan panicked, his arms and legs were thrashing about, desperate to get out of the closed space, "MIKE, PLEASE LET ME OUT!" He pleaded, his voice echoing inside the animatronic. The four teens laughed even more.
"MIKE!" Evan yelled one more time before his hand accidentally knocked out a mechanism that was holding the mouth open. The mouth quickly closed around his head.
Then there was a horrifying sound of bones breaking.
And then Mrs. Afton began screaming.
