Chapter 24
Y/N's POV
After figuring out "who-was-who," it didn't seem like much fighting occurred afterwards. Bill and I were in the lead with Katelyn and my nerdy brother-figure close behind, Neal and Mabel claiming last place as theirs for now. Even after taking the college route, we were still able to catch up and claim first, but I had a hard time being able to tell if my partner was using his powers or not to cheat. I would not be surprised if he was, but I begged him to let us play a clean game with no cheats. I wanted a fair game and a fair winner. It wasn't until we got the first child out of the group that the game became much more...interesting.
"It's...a boy!" I shouted happily. Truthfully, I may want a girl to be my first child, but even if it were to end up being a boy...I don't think I would mind. It would still be my kid who I will love no matter what. Bill rolled his eyes before jokingly asking, "Any names?"
I answered immediately after he asked me this, "Walter."
Bill literally choked on air at that moment as his eyes widened in slight concern. "Wait, what?"
"Walter," I repeated, wondering if maybe he did not catch it the first time and he needed to hear it again.
"You already know what you want to name your kids?" he questioned in slight fear.
"What's wrong with her already knowing? My daughter will be named Meredith, and my son will be Elias," Katelyn stated, backing me up like a sister should. Mason didn't take too kindly to that comment by her, however.
"You-You too? Why...Why do girls have all this prepared like they can already imagine their husband, family, home...e-entire life?!"
The brunette with glasses turned towards him and crossed her arms. "What, and you're telling me you haven't?"
Dipper immediately freezes at this as his hat falls off his head. He scrambles to pick it back up while also trying to respond to her, "I mean, maybe a few times-"
"My bro-bro has imagined a ton of scenarios with Wendy Corduroy! That's practically his one and only crush-" Mabel began explaining only for her brother to shout in an outburst type of manner, "WAS! She was my one and only crush!" He freezes completely as he noticed how loud he was shouting before adjusting himself on the couch once more. "Can...Can we just continue the game?" he mumbles, not looking up to face anyone.
Katelyn shakes slightly as though a chill went up her spine, the third thing I've really been observant about but like before, she acts as though it were nothing. The leaning against Neal, the pale face, the shudder: nothing.
"Sure, maybe it will help if you pretend you're playing on a team with Wendy. Then you can imagine the house and kids." Okay, I wasn't actually expecting her to say that. Did I miss something in the past 20 seconds? Maybe I'm not as observant as I believe myself to be.
"W-Why would you say that? I'm perfectly fine playing with y-you!" Dipper yelled with confusion laced in his voice.
"Guys can we not fight? Let's just play the game and have fun! Okay?" I said, attempting to get everyone's focus back on the game itself. I wonder if this is why we rarely play board games anymore, let alone this particular game.
"We're not fighting. Are we, Dip?" K.C. asked as she avoided making eye contact with him.
"No... We aren't."
"Perfect. Alright, Team Blue may have been the first to have kids, but just you wait as Team Yellow starts to catch up!" my best friend yelled as though to avoid the fact the previous events had ever occurred.
"Hmm, alright, sure. We'll see about that. Hopefully we can get a girl too!"
Bill looks at me in disbelief as he attempts to talk and not stutter over his words, "You...You want to have another kid?"
"What...you've never thought of what your future family would be like?" I asked, tilting my head towards him.
Bill leans back as he begins scratching the back of his neck. "Well sure! Maybe. ...No? ...As a dream demon, I've never had to think about it... Due to never having emotions before, I've never had to even consider the fact that one day, maybe, I might have a family of my own."
"Well looks like this game is quite the eye opener! You should start thinking about it Cipher," I said as I playfully punched his shoulder making him smile for the slightest second.
"Yes, I definitely should...." he mumbled quietly as he began losing himself to his thoughts.
I handed Mabel the dice next as she happily took it, rolling the dice like Grunkle Stan had taught her. We've all had a lesson of gambling from him at some point and soon Katelyn shall be taught as well. I truthfully fear for that day to come.
"Okay! Momma needs a new house with a craft studio!" Mabel shouted as she clutched onto Neal's arm.
"And a lake outside! One that will look beautiful when it's frosted over!" the ice demon laughed as he looked down at her with a pure, gentle smile.
It was cute seeing the both of them act this way. Dipper...he was still left in the dark about the fact the both of them were dating because Mabel still feared his reaction to her dating a demon out of all people. So he remained skeptical of the two as he watched the co-workers work together to play the game.
"Alright, Log Cabin, $120,000. Sell it for $140,000." Mabel smiled as she showed the card to the icy demon who took hold of it.
"We have the money..and I'd love living in a log cabin with you with a lake of our own- in the game!" Neal quickly saved himself as he looked down at his Princess, slightly disappointed they had to continue this lie and keep their relationship a secret.
"Yeah...of course. Uh, K.C! Your turn?" the once cheery brunette stated as she passed the dice on to the next group.
"Uh, sure." Katelyn nodded. After rolling their dice, the two got an apartment to share with Dipper discussing how K.C. would be able to have her bookshelves placed anywhere and he would have his office for himself. I was glad to see them no longer fighting. It appeared to be a peaceful game once again.
Our turn came next as Bill rolled a five and we had to pick up a Life Card. Our pipe broke in our house and we needed to pay a plumber to fix it, apparently. We had the money, that wasn't a problem. What was the problem was the fact Bill was throwing a fit over it. "Are you kidding me?! If a pipe in our house broke, I'd just fix it myself. One snap of a finger. Simple, done!" he yelled, not wanting to give up any of our money.
"Bill, this isn't reality, it's a game. Can we just pay the money and continue on?" I asked, finding it both hilarious and annoying he was taking this so realistically.
"No way, this is some con to steal my money that I shouldn't even have to give away! I can fix this-"
"Bill, it's a game and we can't continue till it's fixed!" I shouted as he groaned and mumbled something under his breath but not loud enough for us to make sense of what he had been trying to say. He gives the money away as he tiredly says, "Yeah, whatever."
We pass the dice over to Mabel and Neal as their red car lands on a kid space. The demon pokes her side as they both start laughing together. "It's a kid space! You draw the card."
Mabel did as told and in doing so, she picked up a boy card. "A boy! Okay...What do we name him? Oh gosh, I've never thought of what to name my kid!" Neal placed a hand on her shoulder as he sat there thinking about a name he had thought of for his own kid to have one day.
"How about Aster? Aster is the name of the Star of Bethlehem; it's a winter name that works if you also love stargazing," he suggested as Shooting Star's smile only grew wider.
"That's perfect! I'll put Aster right here and we pass the dice to Bro-bro and future sister-in-law!"
The next few rounds went by pretty slow; Katelyn gave birth to twins who she named Elias and Effie, Bill and I chose the family path, and Mabel's house flooded which caused Neal to come up with the plan to make their house into an indoor ice rink if this were to ever happen in real life. Which he quickly clarified it would not happen because they would never live in a house together- but the poor lovesick demon just could not help himself to come up with these ideas for the two of them. Everything seemed to be going alright, especially with Bill and I still in the lead. I have officially claimed victory to be ours! Nothing can stop a true power couple. Nothing!
Katelyn rolled the dice as it was the yellow's turn once more. Her smile widened as she moved her piece into the kids space once again. "Another kid! This one will be Meredith! And she'll be the last kid we have."
"What is it with a-all these kids... Do you really want three kids?" Dipper asked as everyone went silent, watching her eyes become as cold as Neal's. I can never go through a peaceful game, can I? Everyone was taking this game too seriously and realistically; we just needed everyone to calm down and take a step back. Enjoy the stupid game so someone could win and we could move on!
"Maybe we shoul-" I attempted to speak only for Katelyn to beat me to it.
"Don't you want kids Dip? Or like eventually....in the future?"
Dipper became silent. He tried to speak, tried to get something out, only for his partner to continue on, "Like...maybe Wendy wants kids and a big family and all that. But that will be a big turn off for her, ya know? You not wanting kids and all..."
"Okay, maybe we shouldn't mention-" Dipper tried once more but failed yet again as Katelyn continued on.
"I'm just saying, Wendy could want this stuff."
"Y-Yes, you're right, maybe she does! I don't know! C-Can we just continue the game... please? I don't want to talk about this right now..."
"But isn't Wendy the girl you want to be with? You gotta consider what she wants. She could want a family! She could want a life with you, and have three kids. What will you want though? Your happiness over hers?"
"Both of you just Shut Up!" I finally screamed as flames formed in my fists. The only time I'm not actually trying to use my powers they finally work for me...joy. I watched everyone just stare at me as they all grew speechless. I felt Bill's hand rest over mine, the fire not seeming to burn him as he helped me relax and control my powers so I could put it out. I love these two dearly...and I shouldn't have screamed at either one, but Mason was becoming scared out of his mind and Katelyn was going to let anger begin consuming her until she began screaming at everyone. I honestly do not understand why she would blow up on him like this to begin with; he hadn't done anything wrong and now he was starting to panic and freak out. I just- I had to stop this before it continued and my demonic abilities...seemed to have heightened how upset I was because I really wasn't that mad.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have screamed-"
"Hey, it's okay, (first initial), you're fine. I...I needed that, to be 'stopped'. I was in full on rant mode." Katelyn tried to soften as I frowned.
"That still doesn't give me the right to- I'm sorry...Maybe we should just take a snack break, I think we're all forgetting that this is just a game and are taking it too realistically."
"Yeah, a break sounds perfect right about now. Thanks..." Mason sighed with relief as a smile finally formed on his face.
In moments we were all sitting down eating gummy worms, Cheese Boodles, and buttered popcorn. Mabel seemed to be showing off her unofficial record of how many gummies she could stick in her nose as Neal got a kick out of it, seeming to find her more adorable than before. That's what I call true love. As Bill and I began sharing the popcorn, I looked over to find Dipper taking a seat beside my twin who seemed to be hiding her face from him with her hair.
"I made sure to save you the red ones." she stated as she handed over the gummies that survived the threat of Mabel's nose with her own yellow stash in her other hand.
"Thanks! But I...I like the yellow ones too. Do you wanna share what you saved from the bag?"
Her cheeks begin to show a dust of red coating them as she nodded her head slowly. "S-sure, I mean yeah, as long as you don't mind me taking some red."
"Red is cool and all...but yellow has this sour thing... I'm getting used to it." Dipper whispers softly as she moves her hair out of her face to see her big, chocolate eyes staring up at him.
I smiled to myself as I continued eating away at the popcorn. I was still a bit cautious about the two, wondering if Dipper really was okay after what had happened... but that's something I can ask him about at another time. He deserves a break right now from being thrown into a corner to be questioned.
Eventually we all decided to quit the game; Bill and I ended up watching Nightmare Before Christmas as everyone dispersed to do who knows what. It was peaceful and I was glad to end up having some time with my golden demon at the end. Overall, it had been a peaceful day and I was glad to finally enjoy a day with no stress and no other demons to bother me.
~~~
Once the end of the day finally arrived, I retreated back to my room to catch some sleep which I've been in desperate need of. Sadly...the exact opposite occurred. Upon entering my room, I found on my bed a small box with three locks decorated across its side. A box I had believed to just be from some dream; believing the garden, the corpses, and the voice to all just be a part of one frightful nightmare.
But that wasn't all there was for on top of that small box with three locks lied a clue. The first clue to my quest on finding the truth about Bill Cipher.
