Chapter 23
Y/N's POV
I don't remember how I got home last night. I had been roaming the woods as if I were lost, trying to find my way back but besides that...I have no memory of entering the Shack to go down the elevator so I could return to my love who awaited to embrace me in his grasp once more. Only the woods...the cold, brisk air hitting my very being sharply while a wooden box was held tightly to my chest as though my life actually depended on its protection. It shouldn't mean this much to me, I shouldn't have dug through a deer's chest just to obtain it. In the end, for all I know, this could all turn out to be pointless and I would end up being an idiot for...believing...that some part of this was true. That there are reasons behind Bill's lies that he is trying to keep far...far away from me. In a relationship, I believe there has to be some type of trust but if all he does is lie and hide...does that make our relationship based off a lie as well?
I felt something begin to stir in my lap as my eyes jolted wide open, fear taking over of where I was and what was on me. Looking down I found the golden hair belonging to my demon boyfriend as he shook his head slightly, waking up. I look around...this can't actually be real. I...I never returned home last night. So how was it that I am here in the exact same position that I had left being in to go find a garden in the middle of the woods?
A dream. Could that be all that it had been? I don't dream...not unless the demon after me was able to put me in some realistic fantasy realm in my mindscape to make contact with me. My head pounded as I tried to understand; had nothing that occurred last night been real? The blood on my hands, the fear in my very being as I shook under the corpses of innocent creatures? It all had felt so...real...but maybe that was his intentions. I have no other explanation to why- how I got back, how I am sitting here sound asleep instead of having a panic attack.
Insanity has crossed my mind, that maybe I'm not alright and I need to get help. I mean- what do you expect? I'm dating a dream demon, ripped the heart out of a demon of the mind and sent his body back into the Nightmare Realm. Maybe I'm just on the bridge of insanity, maybe I'm truly losing every inch of humanity I had left and it's only a matter of time till Ford has no other choice but to send me to some asylum in hopes that eventually I shall get better. It's possible that none of this is actually real- but that's the last thing I truly want to believe is the truth. Going off of theories that swarm in my head never giving myself any rest won't do me any good in the long run. Finding the answers I need...the truth, in that matter. That's what I need to obtain...whether that box, that garden, that 'dream' was actually real or just another lie being thrown at my face.
"...S..tar?" I heard Bill mumble, snapping me out of my thoughts- SAVING me from my thoughts. My hand ran through his hair as he turned to look up at me, his eye half open as he stared up at me tiredly. "I'm right here..." I whispered as I bent over and placed a kiss to his forehead. He smiled softly as his eye closed and his head laid against my stomach, listening to my breathing patterns which appeared to soothe him. "I don't want to move...I just want to stay here..with you." he mumbled quietly as he moved his arms to wrap around my waist.
I laughed softly as I brushed his bangs out of his good eye, he opened it once more to let me stare and become locked in the golden abyss with no escape. He smiled gently as his grip slightly tightened. "We could stay like this...stay just like this, we don't have to change anything about this." Bill whispered and I wondered if he was just talking about the position we were in. "I know and I don't want any of this to change...but you have to go and do your rounds, check in on all the demons." He frowned as he sat up slightly but then fell back onto my lap. "I don't want to...I want to stay here, no stress, no worries."
"Yesterday was our break day from stress, now we have to enter reality once more and deal with all the problems today has to give." I stated as he just groaned more. He buried his face into my shirt as he clutched onto me tighter, not daring to want to release me. "Is it really that important that I go? Can't we just enjoy today, you and me? The demons can survive for one day without their daily check-in from me. I just...I just want to be with you." I smiled tiredly before laughing softly, moving my hand from his hair to trace his jawline as he closed his eye, relaxing under my touch.
"Please, Y/n? Don't let me go...I don't want to go."
I leaned forward as my lips touched his gently, immediately he kissed back as he sat up slightly and moved his right arm from around my waist so he could caress my cheek. Releasing slowly, I watched as Bill sat up completely with his forehead resting against mine, staring down at me lovingly. "You're such a dork, Cipher." I mumbled causing him to laugh. "Well, you're spending the entire day with this dork. Hope you can handle me for that long."
"You? You're a piece of cake. No harm done handling you and all the demonic problems that follow you." I said teasingly as he hugged me tightly. A devious smirk formed on Bill's face before he picked me up and began spinning me around, causing me to punch and scream for him to let me down. It didn't stop there, however, as he lifted himself into the air as my immediate reaction was to wrap my arms around his neck and clutch onto him as though my life depended on it. One slip, one fall, one fatal doom soon to arrive.
"I hate you, Cipher!"
"Oh come on, Y/n, you know you love me~" he teasingly said with a sly grin forming.
I laughed at him, giving him a playful punch before laying my head in the crook of his neck. Bill chuckles softly as he clutches onto me tighter and lays his forehead against mine, kissing the top of my head repeatedly as a hard, bright red blush begins forming immediately. "With all the screaming, you'd think someone was dying in here!" Katelyn shouted as she entered the room in her onesie, a cup of coffee in hand. I attempted to hide my face from her as Bill quickly lowered us, letting me be on my own two feet again once more. "Oh, hey, Kit-Kat! What would you say to all of us having a slow day with movies, hot chocolate, and games? We could even stay in our pajamas the entire day!"
"Movies, games, and pajamas? Count me in! Prepare to lose, suckers! I'll go announce the news to Dip and I'm pretty sure Neal was going to come over to spend time with Mabel." Katelyn exclaimed as I laughed at my best friend. "The more the merrier, bring them all over so we can get this Break Day started! No stress, no problems, just us being lazy and carefree!" I shouted as she was already running off to find the others.
Bill's arms had snaked around my waist from behind as he rested his chin on my shoulder with a frown on his face. "I wanted to spend the day with you and you alone...just me and my Star-" "Plus friends!" I added as I kissed his cheek causing a smile to slowly form, "It won't be so bad, you'll still have me but we shouldn't just ignore everyone else; they should be able to enjoy this day with us as well. It'll be fun, I promise, and I'll be here with you the entire time."

We all ended up gathered together on the couch. Bill had his arm wrapped around me protectively as though he was afraid one of them might steal me away. It was adorable how fearful he was to lose me to one of our friends stealing my attention away from him. I reached over to grab his hand and I squeezed it tightly, assuring my demon that I wasn't planning to go anywhere else besides sitting here next to him. Katelyn took the only other side of me that was free as Dipper chose the spot beside her, Mabel and Neal sharing the ottoman together.
"Alright, I'm ready to start game day!" Katelyn cheered as Mabel agreed, plopping a bunch of board games in front of us. "These are all the games I could find that Stan owns." she explained as we began examining our choices.
"This is great, Mabes! Alright, let's see... The Game of Life? Dang...is it bad I can't even remember the last time I played this?" I confessed sheepishly while picking up the box. "More of a reason for us to play it now!" Katelyn cheered as we took apart the box and set all the pieces and cards up. We had all split into teams, Bill with me, Mabel with Neal, and the last of the two paired together. Everything seemed like it would work out from there.
It didn't take long for a war between everyone to commence.
"Neal and I have called the red car to be claimed as ours!" Mabel announced cheerfully as she slightly leaned herself against the ice demon's arm only for me to catch them doing it. I smiled as I reached over and picked up the blue car. "Blue for the win!" I cheered while lifting my arm up high, already claiming victory. Bill shook his head, however, and lowered my arm.
"I love you, I do, but we're going with yellow. Gold is the color that wins the battle in the end." Bill stated.
"Since when have you won anything?" Dipper retorted as my dream demon growled at him. Before he could grasp hold of the car, Katelyn had already taken it into her possession. "No, sorry, but this is my car. You can fight me for it if you want but Dipstick and I are team yellow."
"That's fine, we can just go with blue-"
"Nope, not gonna happen. Yellow is mine so just hand it over and no harm shall come to your 'mistake'." Bill stated as he reached his hand over. "M-Maybe we should just...give him the car? Besides, I wanted to be the blue car..." the brunet boy mumbled as he scratched the back of his neck.
Katelyn stared down both boys before crossing her arms. "Fine, if you want blue then go be on a team with Y/n while Bill and I have yellow. Happy?" After that suggestion was given, literally both boys shut up and remained silent for a minute. Bill's arms immediately wrapped around me as his head rested on my shoulder. "A team...with you? ...Okay, Star, we're Blue! Have fun, Pinetree! The color didn't even matter anyways." the golden boy said as his grip around me tightened.
"That's what I thought. Now as for you, Pinetree, you better chip in or ship out, cause I can marry, buy a house, and raise a family all by myself. Don't go thinking me playing this game depends on your presence. So...as I repeat, we are the yellow car. Got it?"
Mason's face seemed to pale for the slightest second. No words seemed to be able to form as he only nodded silently, his cheeks dusting a slight pink. If anyone else actually noticed his blush I wouldn't be sure but then again I believe myself to be a bit more... observant but that just might be my opinion and mine alone. "Yay! Blue rules! Glad you could finally come to your senses, Cipher!" I smiled as he nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck.
"Well, Bill may have agreed to Blue but Yellow is still winning! Right Dipping-sauce? We got this, Marriage, Family, and House, here we come!" Katelyn exclaimed as Dipper's face seemed to pale slightly more but he attempted to just shake it off as soon as it occurred. What could possibly be bothering him right now over this is beyond me. It's just a game, in the end. "Y-Yeah...Yeah, w-we totally got this! Winning... Winning the game..." he added, adjusting his hat to cover his eyes slightly.
Bill laughed as he placed the blue car at the starting line with a sly smirk spread across his face. "And here I thought you hit puberty, Pinetree, but yet here you are with your voice still cracking! Nervous you'll lose?"
"N-No! Shut up!"
"Hey, don't let them get in your head. That's losing enough. Focus on victory, it's all that matters in this game...that and thinking about what you want your house and kids to be like...Other than that...Victory! So hush it, Bill, and get this game started!" the brunette with freckles said with determination in her voice, placing the yellow car right beside our blue one.
Mason did not seem motivated, however. In fact, he appeared to be the exact opposite as he began rambling to himself based on what she had just mentioned, "House...k-kids-" "Subject change, starting game! Bill and I will go first, then Shining and Shooting Star, lastly you two!" I yelled, trying to get my brother-figure to focus on the game once more because that's all this is. Just a game, the game based on Life.
"Saving the best for last then~ Roll the dice, (first initial)." my twin smirked as confidence in her victory only rose as we all sat there side-by-side. "Okay, whatever. We'll see who's the best once I win!" I declared.
With that, the game had started.
