Chapter 17
Y/N's POV
A scream rang out as I looked up to find Mabel Pines running. The car came to a complete stop as I put my phone down and exit the vehicle. The moment I did the same girl screaming tackled me in a tight hug. I was about to ask what was going on but she beat me to it by saying, "You guys made it! I can't believe it, I thought Bill might not let you and- oh my gosh, the outfits still look great on you guys!"
"That's like the fourth time you told us, Mabes." Katelyn said as she came up behind us with Dipper right behind her.
I laughed, "Thanks and he didn't technically agree to this but he'll come around. I'm sure of it."
The four of us went up to the fence with a sign on it that read, "NO TRESPASSING: VIOLATORS WILL BE DEAD!" I smirked before beginning to climb the fence and entering the "No Trespassers" Land. Jumping down, I was tackled in my second hug tonight except this time it was from a certain red head with a plaid green shirt.
"Well 'hi' to you too, Red."
She laughed before getting off of me. Wendy was no longer the chill teenager I remember. Her shirt was the same but everything else seemed to change. She no longer wore her hat and her hair was now cut from her chin to her shoulders, short in the front and long in the back. She seemed more grown-up yet that Teen attitude was still there. She may look like an adult but her spirit is still a teenager's.
"Yo, dude, Mabel did a good job on that costume. So, you ready to enter the haunted store? Gonna warn you, these ghosts mean business so try not to act...like a regular teen if you know what I mean. Just watch what you say or do and we should be good."
I nodded, understanding exactly what she meant especially seeing as Dipper wouldn't shut up the entire way here on what NOT to do. Eventually I had seen Katelyn turn up the volume on the radio as Dipper had frowned at that action. I'm sure if needed we could take down a few ghosts, it shouldn't be too hard.
Walking up to the two glass doors we found that they were both locked. I bit my bottom lip as I thought of a way to get it open. I could use my magic but at the same time I don't want it to glitch on me if I need to use them later. "Last time there was a vent I was able to crawl through on the roof. You should be able to open the doors on the inside then." Dipper explained.
I followed his instructions, I found a broken vent door and climbed in. My worst fear then was whether or not I was going to ruin the dress. Luckily it seemed to still be in good shape as I got inside; I ran over to the door and opened it as everyone cheered me on. As Dipper passed me, he gave me a high-five and said, "Guess you're Dr. FunTime now."
Lee and Nate pumped their fists in the air and began chanting, "Dr. FunTime! Dr. FunTime!" Thompson had gone over and turned the lights on before coming back over to our small group, everyone seeming a bit nervous. "I'm getting some crazy memories from last time." Robbie said quietly; Robbie definitely changed the most as he no longer wears the sweatshirt or the guy liner. He owns his own company and only writes music as a side job yet he is still up for breaking and entering a haunted store with the gang if they're up for it.
The lights above began to flicker as the temperature seemed to drop and become more chilly. I hugged my arms as Dipper turned to look at me. "You want my sweatshirt?" he offered as I shook my head in response. "No thanks, I can handle a little cold."
Dipper sighed as he looked over at the rest of the group; finding K.C. also shivering like me, he took his navy blue sweatshirt off and placed it over her shoulders without asking. Tambry crossed her arms and nudged Robbie in the stomach as he sighed before searching in his backpack to find his old sweatshirt still in good shape.
A laugh echoed through the store as we all looked up to find a ghost with red flames surrounding him. Reading his name tag on his shirt I was able to read "Pa" but no other name following. He reminds me of a angered demon at the moment but I know that he's really just a lost soul who can't move forward, angered by us teens.
"I thought I told you kids never to come back!" Pa shouted as we were lifted into the air. Lee and Nate began to freak out together as Neal held onto Mabel, looking at the ghost in confusion. I wonder if anyone actually told him about the ghosts that live in this abandoned building.
"Technically the majority of us are adults, not teens! And the few that are still teens are very mature, I assure you!" Dipper yelled as he began floating upside down.
Pa wasn't having it as he began to hold everyone frozen in the air with a blue aura coming off of us. I frowned and yelled, "Hey! Leave my friends alone you dead old man! I've taken down demons before and I'll let you know that I'm NOT afraid to take down a few ghosts as well!"
He didn't reply to me as I felt the grip he had on me begin to tighten. I glared at him as anger began to fill my body, I felt flames begin to form in my hands as I tried to calm down; I didn't want to accidentally lose control of my powers and burn the whole place down with all of my friends still in it. Another gust of wind occurred as a second ghost appeared trying to hold Pa back from us. "Pa, calm down. Don't you realize who this is?"
"What are you talking about, Ma?"
The dead woman floated down to me as she grabbed my hand and pulled me from the magic Pa had on me; she held on tight to my arm so I wouldn't fall onto the floor. "This is Y/n L/n, the one who defeated that demon and all of his treachery a few years back."
I waved my hand slightly as Ma gently placed me on my own two feet. Pa's eyes widened as he released his hold on everyone and dropped them on the floor not as gently. "My, where are my manners? You must excuse me, I did not realize who you were at first." I laughed nervously while scratching the back of my neck. "It's totally fine, wouldn't be the first supernatural being to capture me since my return."
"How can we make it up to you, dear?" Ma asked as she floated over to her husband. I looked at the group before looking back up at the two, "Well, if you don't mind, we were hoping that maybe we could stick around and hang out at your store. Would that be okay with you two?"
Ma looked over at Pa as he lifted a finger to his chin and thought. He smiled down at us before laughing, "Of course, of course! The savior and her friends are welcomed to stay for tonight."
The group cheered as I yelped when Nate and Lee lifted me onto their shoulders. I laugh, glad that I disobeyed Bill and Ford to come out and have fun with all of my friends. Wendy began to play Believer by Imagine Dragons as we all went in separate directions. Mabel and Neal stayed by the front sitting on the ground, her head resting on his shoulder. The girl was so exhausted from getting all the stuff ready for Halloween that Dipper expected her to eventually pass out on the nearest person.
We decided to go into a food fight between the aisles. Wendy, Robbie, Tambry, and I versus Nate, Lee, Dipper, and K.C. The battle was on! We may be entering adulthood...but our maturity level is still one of a teen's. Katelyn had gotten on Dipper's shoulders to get a better aim on us. I screamed with laughter as I ducked behind the shelves. Robbie ran over to me, "C'mon, I'll give you a boost so we both have a higher advantage." I smiled as he pulled me up off the ground and onto his shoulders.
"You're going down!" I shouted as Robbie handed me some ammunition. "In your dreams!" Dipper shouted back at me as I couldn't help but laugh.
The battle continued for a long time before Robbie and I decided to end it. He handed me a soda with a few mints. Quickly I placed the mints inside and screwed the top back on but not all the way. Shaking it a bit, I threw it towards the other side of the store while screaming, "Fire in the hole!"
They all ran for cover but it was too late as the cap came off and the bottle started flying everywhere. Robbie got me off as the two of us ran to some cabinets to hide under till it was clear. Dip-Dop and K.C. did not have the same idea as us but instead continued to run with the girl on his shoulders before he slipped and made the two of them fall over.
I laughed and once it was all clear I came out to help them up. "Attacked by soda, never saw that day coming." the boy said as he engulfed me in a wet and sticky hug. "Off- Off of me, Dipper!" I screamed as he lifted me and spun me around.
"Mabes is gonna kill us." my best friend laughed as she began to check her pockets. "Ugh, my phone dropped. Help me look for it?" The two of us nodded as we began to look. We heard faint music as Dipper walked towards the sound, reaching his arm under one of the shelves and pulling out a phone playing 96,000 from the musical In The Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
"Ha, must've turned on when it fell." Katie laughed as she took the phone. "You should probably turn that off...now." the boy suggested as the two of us looked at him confused. "Why?" Before he could say anything, a scream rang out.
"RaP mUsIc!" the ghost of Pa screeched as he once again turned into burning, crimson flames. Katie immediately turned the song off as she put her arms up in defense, "It's off, okay? No more rap music."
He glared down at the three of us as we were lifted into the air, "I let you stay in my store, I offer not to harm any of you, and THIS is how you repay me?!" The three of us are slammed back onto the floor as we look up in fear. Thompson runs towards the door in an attempt to get out but Pa locks it before he can.
Neal stands up as Mabel wakes up from the noise of the chaos going on; she immediately clings onto the ice demon as the two also attempt in opening the door. "Now you're NeVeR getting out!" Pa screamed as gravity came to life lifting us all up in the air, landing on the ceiling to see gravity had flipped. The ghost attempts to attack the three of us but ice is shot at him.
Neal turns his direction to us before shouting, "I'll hold him off, you guys need to find a way out of here." Mabel runs over to us as Dipper wraps his arms tightly around his sister. The ghost laughed at us, "You think you can leave? THERE IS NO ESCAPE!"
The ice demon stood as he continued to attack while the four of us ran aimlessly trying to find an escape route. Katelyn snapped her fingers, "(first initial), how did you get in?!" I look at her for a second dumbfounded before I remember the vent I had climbed through. Luckily being on the ceiling we now have an advantage to get to the vent I had climbed through and jumped down from.
Mabel and Dipper entered and escaped as K.C. and I gathered the others. As Thompson, the last person, went through, I called out to Neal, "Come on, we have to go!" Pa looked over at Katelyn as I could feel the temperature in the room rise all of a sudden, "NO! YOU SHALL NOT LEAVE!" Fire formed in the palm of his hand as he threw it towards her but I pushed her into the vent in the knick of time, taking the hit.
I was thrown into the wall as I heard a bone crack. I screamed in pain as the burn on my chest hurt, I felt as though I was on fire. I closed my eyes as I tried to reduce the pain with my powers. Not opening my eyes, I couldn't see what was going on but I could hear a battle occurring in the background. Soon after I felt two arms wrap around me before entering the vent, I could tell by the tight space surrounding us.
As we entered outside onto the roof, I opened my eyes to find Neal holding onto me. "Let me." he whispered before placing his hand above my chest as I noticed his glove was taken off. His powers were immediately taking the burn away and cooling it down; the burn was still there but he was able to reduce the pain I was feeling. The costume, ruined.
"I'm so sorry, it was my music that got him upset and the reason you were burned. It's my fault-" Katelyn tried to say but I cut her off, "It's not your fault, K.C. I'm fine, really." I stood up as Neal and Robbie helped support me on either side. Robbie looked down at me and frowned, "What are you going to tell Bill and your dad? You can't exactly hide that burn."
Katie snapped her fingers before taking Dipper's sweatshirt off of herself and giving it to me. "You're already going to get into trouble but I think seeing the burn might draw the line of you ever coming out of the Shack again. Hiding it might be our best option if you want your freedom still." I nodded in agreement as I took the sweatshirt and put it on, zipping it up to cover the wound.
"Well, I guess we should be heading back now. This...was a lot of fun, getting to have freedom back and all. Let's just hope I don't lose it once we get back home." Neal and Robbie helped me off the roof and over the fence until I was seated in Katelyn's car. Mabel drove home with us as we drove in silence, the twins passing out in the backseat, Katelyn focusing on the road, and me trying to heal myself. One hectic night...but in the end I believe it was worth it.
