Chapter 15
Y/N's POV
I walked around the top floor of the Mystery Shack in an attempt to find something to keep me occupied. I passed a calendar in the hall to see October written in bold above the dates. Yes, it is now the month where people go shopping in hopes to get the good candy before it's all out, costumes to either impress or scare, and decorations to put on the outside of their houses.
Usually this holiday is celebrated once a year in the month of October but seeing as Gravity Falls is not your ordinary town, they celebrate it once in Summer and once in Fall. Yes, Halloween is coming up and hopefully it will calm things down around the shack.
Bill has been restless as he blames himself for not being able to find the dream demon after me. "It's been almost a month, Y/n, and I still haven't accomplished protecting you!" Bill had shouted at me as he refused to lay down and get some rest. I sighed as Ford stood next to me in an attempt to help me calm the demon down. "Bill you need to calm down-"
"Calm down? How can I calm down, Sixer, if I'm failing to protect the only person I care about? They could be out there right now putting their next move into action and here I am not having a clue about it."
I had walked over to him and placed my hands on his shoulders to try and relax him. "Bill, you and Banshee have looked over every inch of Gravity Falls to find them but have had no luck. If you want to help me, please go to sleep; you need the energy so when you do find them you will be ready. We'll find them, I promise and when we do I will be safe because you will be the one protecting me."
Bill looked at me before placing his head in the crook of my neck while clutching onto me tightly. "I don't want to lose you...not anymore than I have..."
...That entire event occurred this morning at 2 o'clock. He finally stopped refusing to sleep around 3:30 a.m. when he passed out while still clutching onto me. Ford had helped me place him on his bed and said he would keep an eye on him to let him sleep. I'm not as mad with him as I was a month ago when he placed the bracelet on my wrist but I'm still upset because he still refuses to take it off. I stopped giving him the silent treatment and began speaking to him again which Bill is really thankful for. He's been careful with his choice of words and actions as to not upset me again but at the same time keeping me safe seems like first priority.
I yawn while entering the kitchen to find Dipper and Markus talking, a new accessory added to the table. "You bought a pumpkin?" I asked curiously as I took a seat beside the large pumpkin they have chosen to bring home. Dipper nodded as Markus smiled, "We're going to scrape its guts out and make it suffer! I swear this is probably the best tradition you Insects have."
I glance over at the brunet male, trying to hold back a laugh. Dipper rolled his eyes as he picked up a knife. "It makes him happy if he believes it is suffering and being tortured by his hand so I just go with it." I stifled a laugh as Katelyn walked in with her hair pulled up into a ponytail and her sweatshirt tied around her waist.
"So, we gonna carve a pumpkin or what?" Katelyn asked as I looked at the group.
Yeah, we are definitely an odd bunch.
Dipper cut the top off as Markus and I raced to see who could scoop out the most pumpkin guts. After a while Katelyn joined in to help me. "No fair, why does Kitten get to help you?" Markus complained as the two of us looked at each other with devious looks.
"Because, stupid keyhole, K.C. is my Player 2 and she gets to help me whenever I call for assistance. No way am I losing to you!"
Dipper took a spoon and grinned. "Alright, two against two then. Winner gets to choose the punishment for the losers."
As I narrowed my eyes, K.C. leaned over the pumpkin so their faces were only inches apart. "Bring it, Pinetree." Katelyn mocked using Bill's nickname.
The race was on! Markus kept shoving me whenever I stuck my hand into the orange fruit. Don't argue with me whether this plant is a fruit or vegetable, I already had this argument with Bill and after I googled it I saw he was right that a pumpkin was technically categorized as a fruit. I look over at Katelyn to see how she was doing only to find her and Dipper having a sword fight with the spoons. I laugh, wishing I had my phone on me so I could record this.
A seed hits my face as I turn around to look at Markus who casually chucks another seed at me. He grins but I wipe that smug grin off as I throw a little bit of pumpkin guts at his face. I laugh as he stands there frozen with a blank expression. Coming back into reality, he scoops up a handful of the stuff before he decides to chase me around the kitchen. I laugh and scream, trying to dodge his attack. Eventually I run into the corner of the room and I'm trapped; Markus throws his pumpkin guts at me as I close my eyes, preparing for the impact.
Nothing. I open my eyes as Markus and I both stare at it as it just floats in midair with no movement. I cock my eyebrows as Katelyn and Dipper turn to look in our direction. A golden aura surrounds it as it quickly moves to hit the raven haired demon square in the face, knocking him to the ground. A demonic chuckle fills the room as the three of us that remain standing turn towards the doorway to see a blonde demon looking more lively than he has lately. Bill Cipher enters the room while fixing his bed-head hair.
"So first I save you from an army of gnomes and now I have to save you from fruit." Bill states as he leaned against a chair.
I roll my eyes and cross my arms, "I didn't ask for your help. I could've avoided that attack with or without your demonic abilities coming in to save the day."
"Oh yeah, sure. Like the time you didn't ask for my help when the gnomes attacked you two years ago. Yet in either situation you would've ended up in a mess of trouble. Like for instance trying to get all of the fruit out of your hair and the stains off your clothes if I had let his ammo continue the path it was taking."
Sometimes he just loves to show off when he's right. I feel like that's what he looks forward to in a day. Trying to prove to someone that he is right and all thoughts made by others are wrong. One of these days I will be the one who is right and will show him off.
Dipper looked over at the pumpkin and interrupted our conversation by saying, "Well, we emptied out the pumpkin." Katelyn also looked over and mockingly laughed, "And it appears the girls have won which means we get to choose your punishment."
Bill looked over at me curiously as I told him through the mind how we had made a deal that whoever scooped the most would choose the other's punishment. I went into deep conversation through the mind with Katelyn as we tried to decide what their punishment should be without them hearing. Luckily Dipper hasn't learned how to read minds yet.
I turn and look over at Markus (who is now covered in orange pumpkin guts and seeds) and Dipper with a grin that could send terror. "Looks like we have decided that for the rest of the month you two shall be our slaves and do our biddings!"
While the two boys groaned and complained, Bill laughed and rest his chin on my shoulder. "I swear I'm starting to rub off on you. Trying to decide if that's a good or bad thing." I laughed as he wrapped his arms around my waist. Katelyn skipped over to the knife and handed it to Dipper who frowned as he took it from her.
"First job is carving this pumpkin exactly how (first initial) and I want it." Katie stated.
"Really? I only know how to make the original jack-o-lantern."
"Too bad because I really want it to be carved like the face of a Gremloblin." I said interrupting the two's argument. Bill begins to laugh so hard at that as I go and retrieve the third journal, handing it to Dipper. "Well, what are you waiting for?" I teased while he frowned.
He began to re-draw the face of a Gremloblin onto a new sheet of paper so he could tape it onto the pumpkin and carve it. I watched from the background with Bill standing close to me. He slowly moved his hand to intertwine our fingers as gently as possible. Looking up at him, I can still see a worried expression plastered on his face. I know he still blames himself for not being able to find the demon after a month but what else can we do? We have been doing our best and I haven't received a nightmare since the first night it happened.
I'm not exactly as scared as I was the first night, now I'm just cautious and waiting for their next move. Showing fear is a weakness, I can't give up now. I may not be allowed out in the field but I'm still willing to help; if I give in to the fear then I'll only be vulnerable and an easier target.
I gave Bill a warm smile which he returned before pulling me closer to him with my back against his chest. I could tell he was about to say something only for Mabel to burst into the room and yell, "Stop whatever you're doing right now because it's nowhere as awesome as what I'm about to show you!" Neal came in after her while laughing at her behavior.
Neal and Mabel have been dating in the past month in secrecy. Mabel refuses to tell her twin that she's dating a demon at the moment so all Dipper knows is that he is helping her at her store with new models of clothing. I swear, I've never seen Mabel this happy before. Sure, she always has that enthusiastic, childish side that makes her seem hyper and upbeat but this right here shows true happiness as though Neal filled in that hole that has been empty in her chest for so long.
"What exactly do you want to show us, Shooting Star?" Bill questioned while laying his head on my shoulder.
Her smile only widened as Neal went out of the room to bring back new clothes the two designed. They didn't look like regular clothes though...costumes. "Neal has helped me design all of your costumes for this Halloween!" She pulled out one and held it over herself as I could seen a dress striped in three different colors, purple, green, and orange. The dress only had one strap, it was a tight fitting around the torso but once the waistline came it began to gently flow down till the kneecaps. Mabel pulled out an accessory from behind her back which happened to be a headband with a shooting star glued to it.
Two more costumes came out, one being a dress designed as though it were a galaxy mixed of the colors purple and black. Glitter seemed to cover it to resemble different stars. She handed me that dress while also giving me a bow that matched the exact same fabric design as the dress. The outfit Katelyn was given was a t-shirt with a paw print stitched into it. She had ripped jeans that went along with the shirt, a cat-like tail stitched into them, with a grey sweatshirt that had fake fur sewn at the end of the sleeves. Her accessory was a headband, soft and furry, with cat ears sticking out of them.
"Sorry, Dipstick, we weren't exactly sure what to do for yours so we made this instead." Neal left again as he came back out with a giant foam costume in the shape of the pine tree symbol on Dipper's hat. Markus bursts out laughing as I finally understood what all the costumes represented, they were all the nicknames Bill had given us over the years. Pinetree, Shooting Star, Kitten, and Star.
"Mabes, I love the dress!" I exclaimed while examining the detail in it more clearly. She actually stitched in different constellations into the dress including the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt. I looked at it in awe as Bill chuckled, realization hitting him as well. "Very clever, Shooting Star. Using my nicknames against me. I don't see a costume for me though."
Mabel began to snicker as Neal finally spoke, "Oh don't worry, Cipher, we couldn't forget you." Now looking up I can see that the ice demon had been holding something behind his back. Pulling it out we all saw a bag of Doritos. "You'll just be going as yourself while holding your children." The entire room couldn't help but burst out into a fit of laughter except for Bill who frowned and snatched the bag out of his hands.
I ended up having to stop and actually find oxygen while K.C. ended up rolling on the floor. "It's not funny." Bill complained as I looked up at him. "Of course it's not."
"I heard that sarcasm."
"What sarcasm?" I teased.
"Star, don't test me."
I shook my head smiling while glancing over at the fashion designers who were trying to stealthily move their hands to hold the others. I just stared as I saw the two's eyes lock in contact, neither of them daring to look away. Eventually Dipper is going to find out, I just hope he doesn't break the two apart.
I turned around and stole the bag of Doritos out of Bill's hand while popping a chip into my mouth. He glared at me before tackling me into a hug I cannot escape from. I scream and laugh, begging him to release me. "Sorry, my little Star, but you are now forever mine."
Everyone continued to laugh, looking at all of us I can say that my previous statement does not falter. We really are an odd bunch.
