Chapter 9
Martha's Pov
Storms covered sky's far away. Of course, that was the direction I was heading. As always. When will my missions as a representative of Ianite lead me somewhere tropical? I was heading towards my first lead on Destiny. She had disappeared ever since Dianite had been killed almost a year ago. Dianite was my lead. Ianite would be of no help as she is back in despair. Dianite on the other hand, was dead. Or so I thought. After his death he disappeared making Mianite think he had won and was the only god left. Some dwarves of Thel Olhim refused to believe Dianite is dead. Others support Mianite fully, making this venture more difficult. I sort of ignored the dwarves until proof came out that Dianite was alive, in some form at least. He spoke with the lead dwarf, Oslih. He told him that he was still alive in spirit form. The assassin made a mistake when killing him. I didn't really understand what was the accident was, I've never tried to kill a god.
I finally parked my ship on a rocky cliff over a pond. I looked around. Although there was no indication that anyone lived even near here I had been here before so I was not fooled. I pulled out a small amulet I had been given to get into Thel Olhim. It had one sparkling rock on one side and another dull colored rock on the other side. Without all my studies in magics I would have never guessed that the dull rock was actually way more valuable than the sparkling one. I walked over to another cliff that I was at the bottom of and inserted the dull rock into a indent that it fit perfectly in. I held it in for one, two, three seconds, one for each god. Then I took it out and waited a minute. The cliff side opened up revealing a small stone doorway. I put up my hood and ducked to finally enter Thel Olhim.
I navigated the streets with pristine grace avoiding all of the shorter dwarves who cast strange glances at me. It wasn't them who worried me but instead the ones who glared at me from behind my back and looked away whenever I looked at them. I finally reached the large underground church that resembled the nether. I used the door knocker five times, that was the code that it was me. As the dwarf opened the door I had a flashback of the last time I was here. Dianite had opened the door and I had asked him about ways to heal Ianite. Even if he was no help that time it was at least nice to see him. I followed the dwarf up to the alter.
"It's kind of crude." The dwarf said through his beard. "But for him to have the strength to talk to us we have to give him a blood sacrifice from the person who wants to speak with him." I nodded. I had already known this of course but my stomach was in knots thinking about it. "You sure you're up to this?" He asked.
"Of course." I said. I took his ruby knife and cut my wrist. Small amounts of blood spirited out and floated into the air above the alter. "I wish to speak to thee, Dianite spirit!" I yelled. Even though I had prepared for months to talk to Dianite the blood was making me nauseous. When a semi transparent figure finally formed I sighed in relief.
"Hi uncle!" I said pleasantly.
"Martha!" He said. "I have been waiting for you to contact me. It gets really boring, only being contacted by dwarves who need help with all their problems, as though I can help them anyway."
"I was trying to get ahold of some 'items' beforehand" I said.
He smiled. "Of course you didn't call upon me just to check up on me. You little sneaky merchant. You want information."
"Of course, I learned from the best merchant. I want information on Destiny." I said.
His smile fell. "I-I can't tell you. Parts I don't even know. Top secret."
"I have something to give you in return." I said steely. My merchant face was on.
His merchant face greeted me as I looked up this time. "I see. Although I have no need of items as I cannot use them. Unless someone calls me I cannot even see what is going on in the world. What could you have that is worthy of this information, that I could use as well?"
"Oh, too bad. I don't have anything that meets this criteria." I said sarcastically. I had delayed this meeting to get items for him. Why is he testing me by wondering what I could have?
He laughed. "Well Martha what do you have for me?"
"I want you to tell me why Destiny followed you." I said as I placed a splash potion on the alter.
His eyes glistened as he looked at the potion, hoping to glean what it was. Sighing in defeat, he said "Ever since the day of the picnic, she found ways to see me and talk to me. For the first time in her life, she was seeing an opinion other than the distorted one Mianite allowed her to hear. She finally got to learn who she was one day when Mianite confronted her about what I had told her. She lied to him. Mianite knew it to. So he banished his own daughter and she came to me, becoming my follower."
"That makes sense." I said. "This is a potion that I hand brew from my thauminomicon. It will not raise you from the dead but you will no longer be stuck in between your callings. It will give you the ability to float around the region and see for yourself what is going on. It gives you your own ability to use magic to create weapons, speak to people, etc... It also has a couple of other perks that you will find out if you answer this. What does Destiny know about the prophecy?"
He gulped. "U-uhh" I could tell he really wanted the potion, but he didn't want to spill the beans on this question. Suddenly a look of triumph crossed his face. "How do you know the potion will work?" He asked.
I smirked. "I've tested it." I said vaguely. He sighed.
"Of course you have. She knows." He said quietly. No, no, no, I thought. This is horrible.
"This potion also gives you the ability to be revived if everything else is gathered." I said. His eyes lit up. "You will get it if you answer one last question. Where do you think she is now?"
"I think she is trying to find out who her mother is, then she plans on trying to become a goddess."
