Chapter 3
Martha's Pov
"It was the day that I heard the prophecy that my life went on a downward spiral..."
Still Martha's Pov :P
An awkward silence covered our table. Dad fidgeted in the uncomfortable silence. Mom began to say something but then stopped letting it consume the area. She began to speak again. "Mot spoke with me and he said that a horrible fire destroyed Katsir. There was one survivor, a little girl named Alyssa, or CountryBat, of who Mot is taking care of." My jaw dropped and Dad dropped his fork. A thousand questions buzzed in my head.
"Is Mot ok?" I asked, panic evident in my voice. "Was he hurt?" Mom shook her head.
"No he's fine." Mom answered. Dad sighed visibly. I sighed in relief. "Helgrind is fine too." She said, voicing our unspoken concerns. Helgrind had left to build himself up a home and hopefully a family. He was on a journey to Katsir right now. Soon he would know that the town was burned to the ground. We finished our meal in silence and I helped take away their dishes. I stood up and left for my room. I was now 15 and talked to Destiny more then my own brother. I wondered how his twin children and wife were doing. I haven't seen them in a while.
My room was a curiosity. It housed portals, books, brewing stands, circle magic, various elements, a smeltery, and even my own infusion alter. Basically it was a hodgepodge of random things I was interested in. I closed the blinds and sat on my bed after looking for a project in my thaumonomicon, the same one Dianite gave me. Tomorrow I will look at a new wand focus. I laid down on my large purple bed hoping to meet CountryBat soon. I heard mom and dad speaking in the hallway. I sat up and looked around at each item in my room when one word of their conversation reached my ears.
"... Martha!" Spark exclaimed. He sounded as if he was in a heated debate. I moved silently towards the doorway. "A prophecy?! Truly?!"
"You heard Jerry. He even stepped down to give his position to the little boy, Declan, when he spoke a prophecy with the gifts of Fate." Mom said. I gasped to myself, then bit my lip. Jerry had stepped down? A little boy spoke a prophecy?
"What does it say M'Lady? You've been skirting around the issue." Dad asked. From the shadows I could see her take his hand.
"The Prophecy was named the Prophecy of Nightmares." Mom began quietly.
"Three shall be born to the original gods
A power for each and a sorrow in store
Two shall become gods while the other will not
Shrouded in sorrow the first will gain status
Many years later the second will heighten
The third will disappear into shadows, never to return
Beware the second, cast away from home
Remember the third, or face the wrath of the gods
One will leave this realm
In search of the home one never had
Only this one shall be at peace
Shining bright for all to see."
Mom finally finished. "Martha and Helgrind must both be in it seeing as Dianite has no children and Mianite has one, Destiny." Dad stood there in defeat.
"We can't fight Fate. Sadly I've tried to many times to know that both Martha and Helgrind may become gods or disappear into the shadows. And only one will be at peace." Dad said. Mother agreed. Dad swore angrily. Mom put her head on his chest and shushed him.
"That's not all. The balance has been in the favor of Mianite. Especially after the fire of Katsir. Dianite is failing. The dwarves agreed to tell him that we can stop it though. We have to knock Mianite down a few pegs. I was going to have someone kidnap Destiny. Then our kidnapper went and adopted a kid." Mom said. Mot was gonna kidnap Destiny?!
Dad swore again. He looked at mom. He kissed her head and swayed back and forth. "I'll do it. Just don't worry, like you always do." He said.
"No. I won't let you do it. You know that." Mom said.
"I'll do it without you knowing, so you may as well let me." Dad said.
"Nope. I won't let you out of the house until it's over." Mom said. She smiled and looked at him showing how she wouldn't let him. She could back that threat easily. Dad frowned. I heard mom move towards my room. I scampered towards my bed. I didn't want to get caught this time. Normally I would let them know I heard them but this was too important. I closed my eyes and grabbed my blanket. She opened my door and looked at me. It was slightly unnerving. I started twitching because I felt uncomfortable.
"I know you heard us Martha." Mom said. "I hope you decide not to warn Destiny and I hope you remember all the prophecy." She sat down at the end of my bed like when I was little.
"I will." I said quietly. She smiled and looked at my face.
"It will all be ok." She said.
"How did you know I was there?" I asked.
"You gasped as we mentioned the prophecy." Mom said. I laughed to myself and scolded myself for forgetting Dianite's warning that gods have amazing hearing.
