Chapter 2
Martha's Pov
"My first 13 years passed uneventfully. It was the day of the family picnic that was the first memorable moment in my life. The first that I can look back on. The first to call my own..."
Still Martha's Pov :P
Dad ran in front of mom and I as we walked towards a large grassy hill. Flowers covered the valley I walking and taking in and sweet fragrances covered the area. It was a perfect summer day with a light breeze. "Mom what is uncle Mianite like again?" I asked. My hands were kind of sweaty and my mind was covered in doubt. We were going on a family picnic and I had never met Mianite before. Every time he had visited I was too young to remember it. I had never actually met him. My face stayed in a slight frown.
"Don't worry Martha, you'll get to meet him and his daughter too. You'll have a great time." She said. I wasn't convinced. What if his daughter was mean to me? She had no reason to be but I was still worried.
Helgrind was 18 but even he ran towards the hill as we saw something crimson flash on top of it. As I got to the top I flung my arms around the crimson man in a suit. He hugged me and twirled me in the air a little bit.
"Martha!" Dianite said in a deep voice. "I brought something for you!" Dianite always gave the best gifts. Last year he gave me a bow with powerful enchants on it for when I'm older.
"Hi uncle Dianite!" I said. He handed me a thaumonomicon. It was a large purple books that looked very worn. That's how all thaumonomicons looked no matter how new they were.
"After that conversation about different types of magic I thought you might want to try to learn some yourself! You have great potential, being a demigod and all!" He said. He grinned in a way only Dianite can. I smiled back and put the book in my bag. I couldn't wait to start when I got home tonight.
"Thank you so much!" I said and I hugged him again. He laughed as I smiled back at him. He put me down on the grass where I sat as Mom began opening her picnic basket. I walked over to help her set lunch up. Dianite looked around, his foot tapping impatiently.
"Mianites late. AGAIN." Dianite growled looking at his watch. It was a fancy gold pocket watch. Each second had a tick that I could hear even from ten feet away. "That guy has NO concept of time. TIME IS MONEY!" At that a flash of lightning hits the ground near Mom. Dianite smiled at the flash knowing his brother waited for him to say something about him being late for a flashy entrance. I was extremely nervous, did I mention how nervous I was? What did mom say about Mianite before we left the house? A man with white hair, a white beard, a green crown of leaves, and a pure white toga appeared on the ground near the lightning. Mianite. I exhaled slowly.
"Ianite, Dianite, Spark" he said tipping his crown slightly. Each looked at him in turn and smiled. "Ah, you two must be Helgrind and Martha!" He said walking towards us. "I haven't seen you two since you were little!" He patted Helgrind on the shoulder and then hugged both of us. "But I don't know who you are..." He said trailing off. Only then did I notice the man behind Dianite. He was tall, with brown hair, a red bandana, and a half creeper face. Helgrind looked like he was gonna pee himself while I knew Dianite wouldn't bring him for no reason, and seriously, we knew weirder people being related to gods and all. Our uncle had crimson skin for crying out loud!
"This is Mot." Said Dianite. He pushed Mot forward slightly for everyone to see him. "He's my new champion!" Mot waved his hand in hello. I smiled and Mianite looked thoughtful.
"Welcome to the family!" Mom said. Spark chuckled. He sat down on the grass and put his hands behind his head to relax.
"So you and I are the only true mortals in this place aren't we?" Spark said. Mot smiled and walked towards him only to stop as Mianite began speaking.
"Not true!" Mianite said. He held his hand back towards a man partially behind him. "This is Jeriah, my new champion." He said. Jeriah was a shorter man with a military uniform. He had small cuts along each wrist and a small red ball protruded from his pocket. He had two weapons, the first of which being a gnarly red blade with spikes on it. The second was a small knife. He tilted his hat in greetings.
"Hi!" Hegrind said.
"Welcome!" Dianite said in his booming voice. Mom got out plates for each new guest. Then I noticed a smaller girl behind Mianite. She had blond hair and green eyes that looked like emeralds.
"What's your name?" I asked the girl.
"This is Destiny." Said Mianite. Then he swallowed and looked towards Dianite. "My daughter." Dianite looked over at her and then over at Mom. He raised his eyebrow at her. Mom acknowledged that she knew Mianite had a daughter.
"Your daughter?" Dianite asked looking for an elaboration. Mianite didn't give one. Why did Mom know Miante had a daughter but Dianite didn't? A slight awkward pause went into the conversation.
"Hi Destiny!" I said cheerfully. Everyone else joined in saying hi. She looked about my age so we talked. Mot and Jeriah arm wrestled. Dianite and Spark talked buisness. Minaite and Helgrind talked in a sort of debate. Mom sorta drifted between Spark and Helgrind checking on each of them. As the picnic went on I noticed a group of boys spying on us from the bushes. I started looking towards them and eventually Destiny caught my gaze. She smiled and when I looked back over I saw them leave. I looked around to see if they would continue to spy on us. I was used to people spying on us. It was weird enough with a goddess going everywhere with us, but all three gods, three demigods, and three champions, one of which is part creeper? I would spy if it wasn't me. (3,3,3 illuminati confirmed)
I traced the nearby forest to see if they continued to spy on us. One boy still looked through the trees. He had a small farmers hat, a piece of wheat sticking through his teeth, overalls, and reddish eyes. He was kinda cute. Destiny followed my eyes again and smiled at the farm boy who looked about our age. She winked then looked back towards me. Helgrind walked towards the hill overlooking Dagrun.
"You think he's cute don't you?" Destiny asked slyly. I blushed and then she laughed. "I agree so don't worry!" I blushed further. I then prayed that mom didn't come over. Dianite walked over and stared directly into the woods where we were looking.
"You know Martha, you may want to learn to control your prayers. All three of us heard it. I asked Ianite to listen to it." Dianite said, still looking at the farm boy. The farm boy ran off. "He has potential. I'll find him later." Dianite muttered to himself. I swore to myself silently for being so stupid and forgetting that mom could hear when that happens and Dianite looked over at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Language!" Dianite snapped. "Seriously learn to watch yourself around us gods. We have better hearing then you and can hear prayers." I looked at the ground, ashamed.
"Of course uncle Dianite..." I said trailing off. He smiled.
"Trust me I was much worse as a child, I understand." He said. It wasn't like when other adults said that. Dianite meant it. He always did. That's why I loved him almost as a second father. He cared in a different way.
"Ok uncle Dianite! Love you!" I shouted towards him as he walked back towards Mom. Destiny smiled and we resumed our conversation. Soon it was time to go. Clouds formed overhead and Mianite, Jeriah, and Destiny left in lightning immediately. Dianite chuckled and created a portal to his home.
"A little flashy isn't he?" Dianite said back to us. Then he went through. Mot followed him until only Dad, Mom, Helgrind, and I were left. A snap of mom's fingers and the picnic cleans up.
"Let's go home before it rains." She said. Helgrind and Dad heartily agreed, but I wanted to stay longer. It was so pretty on this hill in the rain. "You guys go on ahead then. I'm going to stay here with Martha for a bit." She said. Helgrind and Dad trailed off towards the bridge. The clouds broke into a downpour and Mother never said anything. Then suddenly she stood up in the rain and looked at me.
"It's so pretty in the rain..." She said almost to herself. I smiled.
"That it is." I said.
"And you're growing up... Where did the time go?" She said. I never answered. Then she snapped out of her thoughts. "We should follow them back to Dagrun." She said. I frowned and when she looked over at me smiling.
"Just kidding!" She said happily. She picked me up on her shoulders like when I was little and ran around in the rain. It felt like the sky was falling when I looked up. As it rained we ran around, kicking puddles at each other. Her hair never got wet, nor did her shirt get wet, but as we ran around I got soaked. My hair scattered all around my face, with strands flying in the breeze.
"Here, let me fix this." She said. I was annoyed, she was gonna dry my clothes and hair with a snap of her fingers, wasn't she? She snapped her fingers but instead of me getting warm and dry, she got cold and wet. Raindrops began staining her clothes as she began the walk home with me. I felt invincible. My life was perfect. My mom was a goddess, my dad cared far beyond belief. My brother was weird and different but I'm sure we will get to know each other one day. I felt all powerful and lucky. I was never gonna have doubts about myself. Ever. Mom looked at me quietly.
Then she spoke, "Even goddesses have fears Martha."
AN//: I couldn't think of a way to introduce Mot and Jeriah so I came back to the family picnic and added them. Of course in my head Dianite is hugging Martha and there is no one behind him and then suddenly Dianite puts his hands behind his back and pulls Mot in front of him shoving him in everyone else's faces. Then to not be outdone Mianite not only does the same thing with Jeriah but with Destiny too! Lol. I just imagine Dianite scowling after that!
