Chapter 34: Oh No...

Melody: I can't believe she took off like that!

Jake, who had received Tessa's short letter a few minutes ago had woken up his siblings and explained to them what Tessa was going to do. Beforehand, he looked around all over for Tessa in the motel but couldn't find her.

So it was obvious that she really went outside.

Jake: Yeah...she's really worried about Misty. So in a desperate attempt. She went outside in the dark alone.

Tommy: W-We have to stop her! What if she gets hurt?

Jake: I know but...

Melody: But...? But what? Jake don't you dare say it...Are you actually going to say we should just abandoned her?...After all she done for us?!

Jake: Melody...I know how much Tessa means to you as a friend but what if it's too late-!

Melody: NO! DON'T SAY THAT!

Melody raised her voice which startled her brothers until Jake puts his hand on her face and then pulls his finger to his mouth.

Jake: Shh! Melody! Do you want someone to hear us?!

Melody:.....

Jake: Melody...I understand how you feel about Tessa. It was thanks to her that...You're still alive...from what happened that day...

Melody:....

Jake: I know this isn't a easy choice to make. But we're running out of time. If we don't act quickly and find a way out, it maybe too late for all of us!

Melody:....Tessa...

Melody looked down at her feet as Jake hugged her a little. But he pulled away remembering the event she went through earlier.

Jake: BTW...Stupid question...Are you okay?

Melody: No...I'm not...

Jake: Figures. That goes for all of us.

Tommy:....

Jake: Tessa made her choice. Now it's our turn. If we don't do something now. There probably won't be a tomorrow.

Melody: What makes you say that...?

Jake:...I don't know...I just get the feeling...something...horrible is going to happen tonight.

Tommy:.....That doesn't make me feel any better.

Jake: Fuck. I know. It's just...come on guys. Enough wasting time. Let's go...Like that old lady said. We're on our own...We got ourselves into this mess. So now we're going to ourselves out of it. One way or another.

Melody: Yeah...

Tommy: Okay...follow us Barry.

The siblings left the motel room and headed out the door. As usual, they did not see the innkeeper anywhere. But to Jake, she was no more of a concern to him.

Once they leave, Jake decided to go look for Dudley to see if he can help them get out of this town.

However...

Jake: Dudley! Dudley! You in there?!

At the small rental home that the older man had told him he was staying at. Jake tried to get the man to open up the door. But to no avail.

Jake:....

Melody: Why...Why isn't he answering.

Jake tried looking inside through the window of the house. All he could see was darkness but no Dudley or anyone inside the small home.

Jake:...He's...not inside...?

Tommy: Huh?

Melody: Then where did he go...?

Jake:....I...don't know...

Tessa and Dudley were gone. Even if the siblings were to check around town, it feels like the two young adults have vanished into thin air.

Both Jake and Melody were afraid of this.

Jake: I knew it...something is indeed going on...

Melody: They're...They're gone?

Jake: I don't know...but I don't want to find out.

Tommy: I...I hope they're okay...

Jake: Me too buddy...Me too...Even if we're just being wishy washy and hoping for the better.

He looked at his sister who had an sad look on her face. The thought of something horrible happening to Tessa made her feel very anxious. She just finally found an actual friend...only to her being whisked away...

Melody:....

Jake: Melody? You know we gonna do this...for them...

Melody: I know. Let's not keep them waiting anymore.

With that, the siblings had a new change of plan. They were leaving this town.

Tonight.

....

The Moon was full.

Everything was silent.

The siblings took that as an opportunity to look around for anymore clues that could helped them escape.

Tommy: Guys...

Jake: Yeah...?

Tommy: Has that shutter...always been opened?

Jake: Hmmm?

Both older siblings turned to the mechanic shop to see that the shutter was indeed open much to their surprise.

Jake: Stay behind me. It could be a trap.

Melody and Tommy followed the eldest into the mechanic shop and another susprise was soon shown to them.

Jake: A blue car...?!

Melody: It must be Tessa's...she claimed she had a blue car while hitchhiking here all the way to Dustville.

Tommy:....So that means they really were hiding it.

Jake: Bastards...

Melody: Does that mean...we can leave now?

Jake walked up to the car and examined it.

Melody: Well?

Jake: No Good...It looks like it still need repairs.

Tommy: *Disappointed* Oh....

Melody: Could you be able to fix it?

Jake: I...think I can last year during the summer. Uncle Joe had taught me a few things since he was a mechanic. Maybe I can find someway to get this baby wired and running.

Tommy: I hope it does work...

Melody: Does it need anything else...?

Jake: Probably some fuel...

Melody:....I'll go look for it. Maybe it's downstairs in the shop.

Jake gave her an worried look to which she ignored. Before he could ask is she truly okay with being alone. Tommy raised his hand.

Tommy: I...I can go with you!

Melody: Tommy?

Tommy: I... haven't done much since we got here to this town...So please let me be helpful.

Jake: Tommy...Yeah. Melody, he should go with you. I'll fix this thing by myself.

Melody:....Okay. We won't be long.

Jake: Please don't...

Melody and Tommy went downstairs into the basement to look for more fuel. The only sister of the Parker Siblings turned to her younger brother.

Melody: You don't need to help ya know. I'll be fine by myself.

Tommy didn't say a word at first. He wasn't sure how to counterargument to Melody's claim of being able to do things by herself.

He feels like if he say something, he could end making her mad. All he could do was look down at his teddy bear.

Tommy: I know...I just want to help...(I don't want you to suffer alone anymore...)

Melody: Tommy...

Before Melody could say another word, she stopped as soon as she heard something near a door.

Tommy: Melody?

Melody: Shhh!

She told her brother to be quiet as she leaned towards the door. Tommy was now at least a feet away from her as he also tried to listen to what she was hearing. There, they begin to hear voices.

Melody's eyes went wide when she recognized one of them...

It was the missing innkeeper.

She was talking to a strange man in a black robe.

Cultist Man: Are you sure about this?

Innkeeper: Yes. I'm tired of hoarding those little bastards. Their parents gave them up. No one's coming to look for them. What happens to them now doesn't concern me.

Cultist Man: Good...Good~! With this, they will be the new sacrifices. Plus, the best part is... they're albinos. They would make a necessary tactic in medicine and their genes will make the ritual spiritually active. This will appease the curse for a few more years! The Oasis Syndrome is coming. Time is within the essence here.

Innkeeper: Whatever. I don't care anymore. Just get rid of them...tonight.

Cultist Man: Understood. You've done us a great service~!

Tommy felt another urge to cry but held it in.

Melody felt sick to her stomach hearing their conversation...The town...they were going to kill them.

This is how things had come down to this. The residents have finally decided they were going to murder three young kids...without any remorse...

Melody: (Screw waiting for Howie. We have to get out of here...now!)

They both begin to back away quietly from the door.

They were only a few spaces away to making a run for it.

Melody: (We need to warn Jake! We need to-?!)

*CLANG*

....

Man: Seems like someone has been eavesdropping on our conversation...

Melody quickly turned her head to see her younger brother accidentally bumped into a metal pipe causing it to fall to the ground.

Tommy: Oops....

The middle child swore in rage because they been caught.

Melody: (GOD-DAMNIT TOMMY!!!!)
