Chapter 22: The Houses

*Third's Pov*

Weirded out by Howie's mysterious visit. Jake and the siblings were now taking precautions on whether or not they should trust him in order to visit these houses...

But since they were looking for clues. They had no choice on the matter. So they brushed off any unwanted thoughts and begin their search around town.

Jake then mentioned the three houses they came across earlier.

Jake: Maybe we'll find something in there.

Melody: I hope so. Or we're just going on another wild goose chase.

Tommy: Do you think it's safe to go inside the houses?

Jake: Don't worry. Like I said before, the three houses are evicted. It doesn't look like no one has been in these houses for a while.

Jake then fumbled for the keys in his pocket before pulling them out. Feeling gleeful on what they might find. He pushed the key inside the lock and turned it.

He heard a slight clicking sound and turned the knob.

Inside the first house, there wasn't really much inside. It had a brick wall and wooden floorboards. There was a small fridge and oven but no kitchen. Blue Microwave on a small desk and there was two beds centered in the next room over.

Jake: Hmmm...Nothing really important in here.

Melody:....Except that.

The brothers looked on over to what their sister was pointing at. On the wall, there was a familiar Native American symbol.

Jake: Isn't that...the same symbol Howie's Grandmother had left on our door.

Melody: I believe so...

Tommy: H-How many of these symbols are there?

Ignoring the symbol, Melody then went into the small bedroom. She then noticed a closet in the back of the room. She went over to it and opened it up.

Inside were a couple of shirts.

Jake: Hey. Toss me one of those shirts. I'm getting tired of wearing the same shirt for the past three days.

Melody: Ew..

Usually, Melody wouldn't allow this since these did belonged to someone else. But since no one lived here anymore. She only shrugged before tossing her older brother a red shirt about his size.

She felt a little annoyed there were no sizes for Tommy or any female clothing for her.

Melody: Tsk. Whatever.

Tommy: What's wrong?

Melody: Nothing. Just annoyed that there's not any good clothing stores we can find in this town.

Jake: I betcha if we did find a clothing store here, they'll be expensive.

Melody: That I'm not looking forward too. Let's just skip the clothing stores and go home when all this is over....wait a minute...

Jake: What?

Melody: Ummm...Jake...you said no one was living in these homes, right?

Jake: Yeah? I'm pretty sure no one has been living here for a while.

Melody: Then...how come the shirts and other clothes in there are in perfect condition. As in...they been recently brought...?

Jake:.....

Tommy:....

The siblings now feel very uncomfortable and decided they needed to leave as soon as possible.

Since they found nothing in the first home. They went for the second and third home...

Inside the second home, it looked a lot more better than the first home. It was a blue colored wall and grey rug. There was a white bed on the side of the wall with a television set nearby. A small kitchen and bathroom were close by.

Tommy checked the fridge but immediately closed it.

Jake: What's wrong?

Tommy: G-Gross...

Jake: Hmmm?

Jake opened the fridge and Melody almost barfed at the scene. Inside the fridge, there were leftover food containing a bunch of maggots and larvae inside them.

Jake: Well...I just lost my appetite for the day...Who knows how long the food has been lasting inside the fridge.

Melody: I...rather not think about it...

Tommy: *Whimpers*

Closing the fridge, Jake tried his best to regain his composure before he and his siblings begin doing their investigation once more.

After a couple of minutes of scavenging around, they couldn't find anything worth interesting.

Jake: Great...Is this place empty as well...?

However Tommy stopped when he noticed something at the corner. Now that he was closer to the bed...there seem to be a lump sitting in the white sheets.

Tommy: Uhhh...Guys...?

Jake and Melody turned to him. They walked on over to the bed. Noticing the lump, Jake had begin to think of many unwanted things of what events are about to unfold.

Melody silently hoped whatever was in the bed was not the monster she saw earlier and they ended up disturbing it's sleep.

Tommy once again wanted to leave and not be in this home at all. He looked down at his bear. Almost like it was talking to him. The youngest Parker Sibling looked up at the others and said:

"Barry said that's a bad idea. You shouldn't take the risk."

Frowning, Jake turned to his brother and the bear before looking back at the thing that was in the sheets.

Curiosity kills the cat they say. Whatever was in those sheets, Jake just hope it won't rip their faces off. Pulling out his pocket knife, he gently pulled the sheets off the mattress.

Jake: ?!

Melody: ?!

Tommy: ?!

What laid on the bed...was a decomposed corpse of a man.

Jake: HOLY SHIT!

Melody: Oh God...

Tommy: *Crying* Waaaaah...!

Melody ran over to shield her youngest brother eyes while Jake fell to the ground in shock staring at the corpse.

He wanted to laugh and think this was some stupid prank. But judging from the rotten smell that now hit the room and the flies zooming around the body.

This was no laughing matter.

Jake: (A corpse?! An actual corpse of a human?! Just what the fuck...)

Melody: (Man...this is just sick...Why...? Why is there a dead body here...? Judging from the body. It looked like he been dead for a couple of years...and no one bother to come check up on him?! The family must've been neglecting his insurances...But still...What happened? When did this occur?...Where did this happened? Who else may have seen or heard this as a witness?)

Tommy: *Whimpering* (I wanna go home...I wanna go home...I wanna go home...)

The siblings decided not to stay in the second home any longer and left for the third house.

....

Left inside the second house, the corpse begins to eerily move...
