Night Creeps
Much to the delight of both you and Robin, the rest of your friends took your secrets well. They didn't mind that you weren't technically human, if anything, they loved it.
Meeting up with them was just as exhausting as always, more so with Shanks there. Luffy was beyond ecstatic to see him and spent most of the time bouncing off the walls, almost literally. At first, you were worried about having them over but Shanks assured you that it would look like nothing more than a friendly gathering. And it was exactly that to some extent, after you'd gone over your current problem with them of course.
Luffy's initial reaction was to go outside and pummel the men watching from the car on the street, Sanji and Zoro were more than willing to join him, but the rest of you were able to hold them back and further explain your plan. Or what you had of it so far at least. If you could make it without being caught this full moon, they'd be forced to leave you alone until they had some other suspicious activities alert them to your being supernatural. Once they knew that, they were willing to begin helping you with the last bit you needed to figure out.
You needed somewhere different to hunt, and if possible, with another supernatural. And lucky for you, Luffy was able to remember someone he knew that was the exact fit you needed. They were supposedly a werewolf with a large pack following which meant you'd be able to stay among them easily and without worry of someone finding you. It was safe to assume that with a whole pack, they'd have their own hunting grounds and after talking Luffy into convincing his friend to let you join for a night, you were set.
He texted him and gave you the general directions of where the grounds would be and while they were outside the city bounds, they weren't beyond your reach. It was a perfect solution to your last problem and you had no clue how Shanks would have known Luffy would be the answer. You doubted you'd ever really know how Shanks could have figured that out but you'd be okay with just accepting things how they were.
The icing on top of the proverbial cake was everyone offering to meet you at the hunting grounds for a bit of added security. They could pass as friends of the werewolves, which technically they were, along for a full moon. Meetings like that between humans and shifters weren't common but weren't unheard of either. Some people got a thrill from being among the more wild side of the supernatural while some others just liked spending a different kind of quality time with their friends and family. In theory, they could use that as an excuse for the odd gathering and keep any government bullies away if they did somehow still come your way.
After everyone had agreed on the plan and where they should all be on the night of the full moon, you all seperated. The next few days flew by, almost stress free and before you knew it, it was time to set things in motion.
The day of, you started by getting ready for a "date" with Shanks. While it'd look like one, in reality you'd be going out into town to pick up your Kitsune (Y/n) stand in. You'd dressed nicely, put on a bit of makeup, and slung a large bag over your shoulder. There were a few things rolling around in it including your wallet, a jacket, and anything else you thought you might need while out but the most important part of it was it was big enough to hold a fox without looking like there was an animal in it.
Picking her up was going to be laughably simple. You'd go to the movies, excuse yourself for a bathroom break at some point, find her already waiting in said bathroom, and have her shift to fit in the bag. You were sure the government men would follow, hence the sneaking, but they couldn't follow you into a bathroom. Supposedly, she already knew what you looked like and would make a quick introduction before hiding herself but you were still a little nervous about the meeting.
You only became more nervous when you got to the theater. Shanks walked you up to the building, as cool and collected as ever, while the fine hairs on the back of your neck stood at attention. Without a doubt, the men were already tailing you. You could feel it.
"Relax." Shanks hummed. "This is the easy part."
"How late does the movie go for?" You asked for what was probably the hundredth time.
"We'll be out of here and back home well before dark." He assured you again.
You got inside and let him get the tickets, a little lost in your own world. Even indoors you could feel the pull of the quickly approaching full moon. Your skin itched and you had the almost irresistible urge to be on the move. Everything looked brighter, more vivid, while the many sounds of the theater entryway assaulted your ears, louder than ever. Most newer shifters didn't go out on the day of a full moon to avoid detection. You were doing the opposite for the same reason yet it couldn't have felt like more of a challenge.
"Let's go find our seats." Shanks handed you the tickets and pressed his open palm to the small of your back, leading you towards an employee, waiting to receive your stubbs with that all too familiar customer service smile on their face.
Like a zombie, you moved to the employee, went through the motions, and then made your way to the right theater room. Once you'd settled in a seat, you finally let yourself relax a bit. It was dark enough in here that if anything small happened to show, no one would notice.
You leaned over to rest your head on Shanks' shoulder and took a deep breath to calm yourself further as he brushed his lips along the top of your head.
"You're doing good." He whispered. "When the movie's almost done, you should be able to do it."
He kept it vague, just in case there was someone listening in but you knew it wasn't necessary. Right now, your senses were heightened more than his and you could tell the men tailing you didn't enter the room until after he'd spoken. You could feel them move and there was no better way to explain it. You knew exactly how far back they were, and you could probably count how many seats were between them and the end of their aisle. They were almost directly behind you and you'd say about four or five rows back. Close enough to keep an eye on you without being close enough to be suspicious.
And then you were back to zoning out.
The movie played but you didn't pay much attention to it. By the time you left, you bet you wouldn't be able to remember a single thing about it. You stayed cuddled up to Shanks the entire time, probably a little too much for the nearby people's taste but you needed it and not just for moral support. Just like how his energy could force changes from you, it could also calm your inner cat and keep it from being too restless. Staying physically close kept you calm in more than one way.
When the time came, Shanks carefully tapped a finger to your thigh. He didn't look your way, eyes still glued to the large screen in front of you. You picked up your bag and leaned over to whisper to him, if only for the sake of it looking normal.
"I'll be back in a minute."
He nodded in response, giving you a quick, assuring smile before you stood and made your way out.
You gripped the bag tightly over your shoulder as you stepped into the much better lit hallway. After a few blinks to clear your vision, you spotted the bathroom and headed straight for it. A now familiar tingling between your shoulder blades let you know when at least one of the men were tailing you once again but you ignored it and continued on.
Once you were in the sanctuary of the bathroom, the door closing softly behind you, you leaned over one of the many sinks with a strained sigh. You didn't get how Shanks tolerated these people so well.
The break was short lived as a woman left the only occupied stall and marched up to the sink by yours. She began washing her hands almost daintily as she side eyed you. Her features were all rather prominent, pointed without being masculine. Long blue hair landed about halfway down her back and draped over her shoulders and her equally blue eyes watched you with a strange mix of determination and fear. You could feel an unfamiliar energy coming off of her but it wasn't unpleasant. It was something like a warm prickling sensation that brushed along your skin in waves. She was definitely supernatural.
"You must be (Y/n)." She said, a hint of confident attitude in her voice. You bet she always sounded like that.
"The one and only." You said with a tense smile. "You must be my stand in."
"Porche." She corrected you. "Are we ready to get this done?"
"Whenever you are."
The sink turned off and you were only just realizing it's only purpose was to mask the sound of your voices in case someone was listening in. It was good to know everyone else knew what they were doing.
She stepped back and rolled her head around, working out the kinks and then in a flash, she'd shrunk down to a petite, bluish grey fox with a thick, bushy tail. If you had blinked, you would've missed it.
After standing there, awestruck for a moment, she pawed at your pantleg until you crouched down, holding the bag open for her. She hopped in and burrowed her way under the jacket and with your help, was soon completely hidden under it. There was now a slightly bigger bulge to the bag but it wasn't enough for anyone to notice. In her form, she was light and you had no issue carrying it like normal either. It'd take a very sharp eye to know something was off.
On your way back to the movie, you caught sight of one of the men, leaning against a nearby wall with a phone to his ear. If he thought faking a call was good cover, he was wrong. You could tell no one was on the other line but you ignored the flimsy attempt at covering up what he was really doing.
Getting back to your seat was quick and easy and you set your bag at your feet, getting comfortable beside Shanks. He immediately reached for your hand, rubbing soothing circles over the back of it.
"It's almost done." He whispered.
To anyone listening, they'd assume he was updating you on the movie. But you knew he was really letting you know you'd be back home soon enough and ready for the next step.
----
"This is a little....uncanny." You circled Porche and she stiffened up, no doubt feeling the predatory energy that was beginning to come off of you in waves.
She'd changed to look like you and it was the spitting image, you couldn't find a single thing wrong with it.
"Can you stop that?" She snapped as she turned to face you. "And is this good enough?"
"Appearance wise, yes." Shanks nodded. "But do you remember all the details Mihawk told you about?"
She started rambling things off, obviously having remembered everything she was supposed to, just like you'd hoped. But as she spoke, you muttered things for her to fix about how she moved. She was a little more stiff than you and somehow still moved her body a lot more than you ever did. You carefully corrected her on all the small details that you could find until she not only looked like you, but sounded and moved as you did too. It only became more and more eerie as time went on.
When she finished her little tangent, you immediately spoke up.
"So we're all ready then?"
"The sun is about to go down so I say so." Shanks peered out your back window to get a better look at the sun set.
Your front blinds were closed as they had been since the men had been watching you. They wouldn't have any idea about your guest.
"Okay." You let out a puff of air and pointed to the kitchen counter. "Porche, my wallet and everything else you might need is on the counter in that bag. Don't go through anything else unless you absolutely have to."
"Yeah, yeah. I got it. Your vampire friend already layed out the law for me."
"Good."
"Let's get started then, shall we?" Shanks motioned for you to go to the bedroom with a slight tilt of the head and his arm outstretched.
You were going to need help figuring out how to force an early shift and you didn't doubt he already had a way of handling that in mind. Now you were hoping everything else went as smoothly as your makeshift date.
