Devon's Hill

Charlie came home late, like every Thursday. Although the sun had already set about two hours ago and he was only 9 years old, he was not afraid to come back alone. He had no reason to be afraid, in a small town like Devon's Hill everyone knew each other, and in case he even got lost, which had never happened before, somebody would show him way to his house. However, this night was different, Charlie noticed some time ago that the moon in the night sky shines with an exceptionally bright, slightly purple glow. The boy did not care much and went to his room.

In the middle of the night woke him strong purple light and the sound of a dog barking. He got up anxiously from the bed and went to the window, which was wide open because of the heat. When he looked outside he saw a medium-sized shepherd sitting under the window.
Hi Rex.
Said boy. The animal seemed a bit strange, its fur was dull gray, moreover it did not look like fur, but like carved steel. It didn't bother Charlie because he knew the dog well. It didn't belong to him but it always came to the boy on the Purple Moon Night, Charlie named the dog Rex when he visited him for the third time. It was four years ago.
As every other night, the boy dressed and went out the window in front of the house, where he played with Rex until morning.

The next day going to school with friends, he stopped at the dog monument in the central square, as usual, to stroke his head.
Come on Charlie! Because we will be late!
A girl called to him.
