Sophie

When Sophie finally woke up, she was relieved to discover that her head was no longer pounding. She tried to sit up, but it was no use. She was chained to a table. Everything came rushing back.

Finding Amy. How she let go during the leap, and fell into the void. When she teleported out, only to be attacked by someone.

The Neverseen. Sophie realized.

She opened one eye, but quickly shut it when she heard voices. Two people were arguing right outside the door. Sophie strained against her bonds to hear better.

"... has been replaced with Esmeralda.  Esmeralda has been our top agent for years, and she is also a telepath and we gave her a secret crystal to look as if she could teleport."

"And no one has suspected anything?"

"Not at all."

"Update me as soon as you get more information. The moonlark is right in there. Don't make a repeat of last time. I expect more of you Fintan. And remember: we need the girl. "

Fintan. Just the name made Sophie sent pure hatred rushing through her blood. He had hurt so many innocent people. And even killed Mr... Sophie couldn't say his name. The pain of his death was still too fresh. The door opened, and before Sophie could stop it, she felt the pure, black hatred and anger coursing through her body. And she let it go.

But it felt different. It didn't leave her feeling drained or empty. Just...angry. Still.

Everything was quiet. Sophie hesitantly opened her eyes, and saw Fintan's scarred face staring back at her.

"Boo." He said, a malicious grin spreading on his face.

Sophie screamed. She tried to inflict, but Fintan didn't go down. He just smiled wider.

"Wonder why it's not working?" He smiled. Sophie shuddered. His smile alone was enough to give her nightmares.

"Feel anything familiar?" Fintan taunted. Sophie stopped, when she realized there was something familiar. Something like a headband was on her head.

Dex's circlet. Sophie realized with dread. Now she was without abilities. Not able to transmit to Fitz or anyone for help. But not defenseless. Her training with the Black Swan had taught her how to defend herself, and that was all she needed. Sophie tried to break free of the chains, but it was useless. They were too tight and strong.

"Nice try." Fintan laughed. "Just keep on trying. It's not like it matters, anyway. Your friends already have a new version of you. One that's not a monster. One that doesn't kill people they love." He made a ball of fire above his hands, and brought it near Sophie's face. She could feel the heat radiating off of it in waves, and instantly thought of Dex's scars. Sophie shuddered again just thinking about it.

Sophie stared Fintan straight in the eye. She wouldn't show him her fear or guilt, she would stay strong. Fintan stared straight back at her. Then brought his hand, red hot, down on Sophie's neck. Sophie screamed in agony. Colors flashed everywhere.

"Not so fun, eh?" Fintan hissed, a cruel smile on his face. Sophie blinked back tears.

"Well, I'll be back in a couple hours. In the meantime, just... entertain yourself." Fintan sneered, before leaving.

Sophie whimpered. She had to stay strong. She had too. For Keefe, Biana, Dex, Edaline, Grady, Alden, Della, Fitz, and- and for Mr. Forkle. Mr. Forkle. He didn't deserve to die- He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And Sophie hated herself for not being there to help him. She really was a monster. And Mr. Forkle died because of her. The guilt came crashing down in waves, and it was all Sophie could do not to sink with them.

"No! No! I will not let myself break!" Sophie muttered out loud, not caring if she sounded crazy. But it was hard not to. Especially when she was all alone, with no one there for her.

So she gave up, and cried. It wasn't like anyone was going to save her anyway. They thought she was a monster.

AAHHHH!!! This was sad to write!

Anyway, I'm on Easter Break this week, so I'll try to update once a day. If I can. My parents installed a timer on my computer, so I have about 2 hours each day to update. Sometimes I can get more if I do math (end of the year tests start the week we get back 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭) or its a rainy day, but usually its about 2 hours.
