1 | Too Powerful To Love

Legend Never Die - League Of Legends

The small, faint, light of dusk enters through the trees, the sounds of the innocent animals awaking from a nights sleep. I watch as a small bird makes flight towards its nest, bringing food for its loud, young babies. Its family.

I hear the slightest twig snap, and instantly my dagger is removed from my side and pressed to the neck of a young teenager, my blade causing a single drop of blood to run down his neck. He stands, eyes wide as he raises his hands in defeat.

"Dammit Caleb," I mutter as I remove the blade from my brothers throat, wiping away all traces of blood as I lightly check for further injury.

   "You okay?"

"Ouch," He sarcastically mutters as he rolls his eyes at me. "What was that for?"

I sigh as I begin walking, my brown, untamed hair falling in front of my eyes as my brother tries to keep up with me. "I told you to leave me in peace Caleb, which means you don't get in my way as I think." I smirk, knowing my motherly tone will annoy him.

"But you told me to get you when the sun started to rise." He mimics, his child-like mannerisms reminding me that he is only fourteen. Lightly, I push him into a bush, laughing as he knows he can't compete with me. He still has three years until he'll shift and gain the full power of a wolf, likely becoming an alpha like our father was.

"No I didn't." I state loudly, knowing very well that he is right and that I reminded him before he went to sleep, but he doesn't need to know that.

"So, I heard that it's official, we have a new Queen and King." He smiles brightly at me, his dark eyes shining at the mention of Cecilinda, who he's bragged about for the past two weeks.

"No, there's a new King and Queen," I correct him, "doesn't mean they rule over us." I bluntly state, gaining a smirk from him. "They only decide that we aren't the enemy when they're being slaughtered and need help."

"They'd never return the favour. Ever."

"You totally hate her." He states, gaining a small grin from me. "No," I answer,"there's only one person left on this earth that I hate."

"I at least have respect for her for saving your life, Alpha Anaka will get the respect he deserves when his dead body is dumped for the wolves to finish off." I clutch my hand into a fist, refusing to allow him to ruin my day.

Not once, ever, had I met him in person. But if I had? It would've been the last time his lungs inhaled a breath of air. His insides, would've been pooled out in front of him, the last will in him to live, destroyed.

"You know we never learned the name of the alpha that brought us back," Caleb sighed as we continued to walk down the forest pathway, small signs of spring starting to show through, all traces of the harsh winter beginning to fade. "Not all of the Northern Moon pack are monsters."

"I never met him," I state as we continue to walk, "he had returned to the kingdom before I could thank him, that's when you told me we needed to send help." I finish, pushing the image of the fresh gravestones of the men and woman who lost their lives trying to help.

"It was a good cause," Caleb seems to know my thoughts, I lightly smile at him, annoyed he can tell my slightest expressions so easily. "It was a good cause," I state, "but not good enough to cost the lives of our people." I sigh.

We push forward, making our way towards the pack, the large span of land filled with small homes for no more than seven at a time. We were running out of room, too many people were coming to us looking for help, being turned away from the portal to the Ferolc Kingdom. we would take on entire families who were refused at the border.

The wolves on guard had restricted all access after the attack in the palace, costing the souls of 117 wolves in total. Anyone who'd never been through the portal was allowed in.

We reach the camp just as the sun fully rises, the warm glow of the golden rays lighting up the small lake near us. The young children running and playing. I sigh as my demand to the Queen herself comes to mind.

For five years I searched for my other younger sister, who was not related to us by blood, but a force much stronger. We took her in when no one had, my father so fascinated that she was brought into our inner circle.

Ellis was ten, ripped from my grasps as I tended to my dying father, her life being stolen because the Northern-Moon pack refused to help us, they told us we were dirty and couldn't be helped. That we weren't worth their time.

Alpha Anaka himself, finished the vote that banned us from entering his little kingdom.

We continued to search, only seeming to get an anonymous tip that she was in the kingdom under the protection of the Queen herself, I knew she was safe, but she wasn't home.

My mind travels to my younger cousin.

"Where's Birony?" My question is answered as she runs around with her best friend Perri, his dark fluffy hair flying as they continue to tag each other. Her dark hair and bright eyes shine brighter than before, showing no sign of her near-death experience.

She spots me, and runs over to wrap her small arms around me, grinning at me as she laughs."Play with me," she states rather than asks, and gently I decline, knowing I have too many duties to attend too.

I make my way towards my grandmother, who sits on the small porch, mending the ripped clothes from fighting and turning. She flashes me a small smile as she fixes a top which I ripped last week.

I bring my brown hair behind me, keeping it out of my eyes. My grandmother gently lays down the top on her lap as I know she's going to say something important.

"No sleep?" She asks, pushing a small stray strand of hair behind my ears. I gently nod my head side to side. "Did you even try sweetheart?" She asks, flashing me a pained look that's been on her face since my mother died.

"Why would I try, when I already know what awaits me as soon as my eyes close." I sigh, pressing my face against her withered hand, closing my eyes.

"It's so hard." I state, "it's too hard."

"Artalia Batail...you are a strong woman," she looks at me gently as the suns beams begin to warm the frozen ground. "You've barely scratched the surface of your courage and strength." She smiles, knowing something I don't.

"You are the first of your kind, and it makes you vulnerable, but it also makes you stronger than you know." I say nothing and continue listening.

"You weild the power of your entire pack, just as they draw their strength from you." She sits back and picks up her sewing kit once again, the small breeze catching her white hair.

"Nature has changed its course, and I suspect it is because of the second coming of Cecilinda," she continues. "She gave birth to the werewolf race, her firstborn Darius was a powerful alpha."

"His children populated the world, and his sons rose to power over the females, it made sense, they were physically stronger and more powerful." She almost laughs. "I'm telling you, it's all that testosterone."

"But Nature changed when you were born Artalia, I saw it in your green eyes the moment you were born." She states, a small smile forming across his lips.

"And I suspect it is the same reason you still have not found a mate." She whispers under her breath and I sigh heavily. I'd been a wolf two years now, met many werewolf who passed through. Even when I'd travelled I'd come across many males but none of them were destined for me. I'd lost hope.

"Nature decides a perfect pair, but always," she stops for a breath,"always is the male more physically powerful." Her eyes gleam as I understand what she is about to say. "Even if they often lack the intelligence and wisdom we are born with."

"Artalia, you haven't found a mate...because you haven't found a male wolf that is stronger than you." She says aloud as I release a cold breath.

"I think you may be as powerful as the Queen," she bluntly states as I look at her with wide eyes. I immediately shake my head in disapproval, no one could take her on and live.

"The Queen is the original, everything that ever was in our world came from her." I correct her, knowing that she wouldn't agree with the words coming out of my mouth.

"Yes, I agree she is powerful and indeed wise, she has had one thousand years to fix her mistakes, but...." My grandmother stops.

"But she is not an alpha, not like you."

Well, welcome to the first chapter!!

Already I feel so much more confident with this character, my writing is more fluid and easier to read. I just hope you guys can see a difference too.

So yeah, let me know what you think! And the next chapter is in our favourite alphas POV....

(Heavily Unedited, this is a first draft)
