Magic at Midnight- Part 2
"How..."I began, the words drying up when I saw the fairy wave her wand twice in two small circles. The art on the wall shimmered and glowed, shining brightly. Azaan stepped back, clutching at my pajamas.
Sparkle Wings did a little twirl and extended a tiny hand towards us. "Coming?" she asked.
"Where?" I replied, looking at the solid wall.
"We're going sightseeing! Who's up for an adventure?"
"Me! Me!..."
"No Azaan..." but it was too late, he had walked into the wall. I stood there, shocked at how he had disappeared. The wall had stretched out like an elastic material and absorbed Azaan. "What is happening?"
"Come and see!" Sparkle Wings chanted and disappeared into the wall, just like Azaan.
This better be a crazy dream, I muttered. Taking a deep breath, bracing myself for impact, I walked into the wall.
My whole body seemed to shimmer and glow from the passage. I looked at my hands, they were covered with pink dust. Staring ahead, I saw Azaan running around, was he in midair? I looked around and saw that I too was suspended in mid-air, amongst the night sky. Little snowflakes fell around us, brushing our body softly. I wiggled my feet and floated towards Azaan.
"Jazz! Look, we can fly!" he shouted his words punctuated by the laughter in his voice. I nodded, giggling, and grabbing his hand. We whirled around, tumbling and dancing, our laughter echoing in the sky.
"No time to play children, we have to go!"
"Go? Go where?" I asked, looking at Sparkle Wings. She smiled and pointed southward. We followed her to the shiny silver lining over the purple clouds.
"Look..." Azaan and I moved closer to see a little boy, not more than my age, hand a balloon to a man. The boy, smiled as he accepted the money, hiding it in a pocket of his torn clothes. We watched as another boy, much younger than the balloon boy, sniffeled in a hidden corner.
The balloon boy scrunched up his nose and asked the younger boy something. "What's going on?" I asked Sparkle Wings. She smiled and pointed towards the vision. The balloon boy moved towards a small vendor and purchased some fruits and bread, placing the food in the younger boy's lap. The younger boy got up and gave the balloon boy a hug.
The vision shimmered and now we could see two images side by side. Balloon boy was being soothed by a much older woman. She kissed his head and gave him a loaf of bread, smiling at his story. The other image showed the younger boy greeted by an ill mother and a small sister. He poured out some water and gave them small pieces of bread, dividing them up carefully.
"What was that?" Azaan muttered as we now stared at a dark cloud.
Sparkle Wings waved her wand and gestured for us to fo to another dark cloud. "Look harder." Raising our eyebrows, we peered into the dark cloud.
It shimmered, just like the last one, and showed us the picture of a young girl, sitting beside an old lady, reading her a story.
Sparkle Wings waved her wand again and we saw a small boy, Azaan's age, giving his toys to someone his age and giving him a hug. The vision changed to an older girl planting a small tree in her backyard. The cloud shimmered again showing a boy helping an old lady cross the road.
Countless images shimmered and appeared in the surrounding clouds all showing different kinds of kind acts.
Azaan yawned, his pudgy little fist coming to cover his mouth. "It's time to go home," Sparkle Fairy whispered, waving her wand to conjure a soft pillow for Azaan. He placed his head on the pillow with a soft sigh.
We came back to our rooms, tired but still excited.
"Do you believe in magic now Jazz?" Azaan mumbled, slipping into his bed.
I turned to Sparkle Wings."You're just a dream," she smiled, her white teeth sparkling in the moonlight.
"Maybe," she agreed with a soft laugh. "But magic is real. Kindness is magic. When you're kind to someone, you create magic."
"But what about what you did? Going through walls and..."
"That's fairy magic," I yawned, getting up on my bed.
I settled into my bed and nodded. "The world needs fairy magic!"
She fluttered towards me, her wings were almost invisible. "Be kind children, that's the only kind of magic this world needs. Sweet dreams!"
