The Red Garden

(A part of an unfinished collaboration book with @CookiesAndCreamMC)

The sounds of gunfire in the morning wasn't a new sound to behold to the ears of the little boy. He grew up in this forest, raised in the dangers roaming about to hunt him down for pleasure. He spent every breath of his to thank his parents, be grateful for them and his lives still instilled within their bodies. It was still three in the morning, the time when the darkness would be bestowed light from the heavens, dawn will break and he hasn't seen it before.

Curiousity flowed through his veins, like a calling to explore the unknown and a calling he couldn't refuse.

He got up from his bed, a pile of leaves with an old shirt his father used to wear on top of it for comfort, and went outside in a heartbeat. His heart stopped when he was already outside, seeing the beauty of the darkness truly show for the first time. He knew there's no turning back this time and he can be able to tell where were the dangers better at night so he made a run for it. He didn't run before so he felt exhilarated to do so, feeling the beads of sweat against his forehead, feeling his legs go numb in exhaustion and pain, feeling the freedom in the wind that past him. He knew a mountain nearby, he saw it when his father took him to get food from the flesh of the ones who have Passed.

He heard a shout behind him, the voice of his parents. He wanted to be free but not alone; struggling between the choice he chose the most selfish choice he could ever have chosen.

He feared what had came to pay the price of his choice as he turned behind him to see the corpses of the parents who loved him dearly 'til the end — he rushed to their side, hoping for a goodbye. But none came as their breaths have already been lost in the winds. The last thing he saw was a cocked gun aimed at him which fired a bullet that hit him as well.

There was no such thing as freedom in the Red Woods of Somewhere.
