Sea Bed
I met a boy at the sidewalk. He was a nice teenager one year older than me. He said his name was Ander, a suitable name for his ocean eyes and dirty blonde hair. He was a strange individual but special, not like the boys at school; I don't even recall him going to a school or have a backpack filled with books or papers.
I always meet him at the sidewalk and always is the first one to leave—he stayed there until I couldn't see him anymore at the bend. The more I saw him, the more I thought I saw him somewhere else before.
He leads me to places to watch the view from a nice place, sometimes a cliff full of fireflies, sometimes a cave with millions of glowworms that looks like constellations and galaxies and sometimes sunsets by the sea.
We were lovers.
Tonight, he told me to meet at the beach nearby. I agreed because I don't want to let him down. I love him.
I went down to Cali Beach in my car and I parked near the sand. I stepped on the sand, taking off my shoes and socks so I can feel it under my feet. The white moonlit sand was so soft beneath my feet, I thought I could've slept here.
I saw Ander waiting by the water, crossed-legged and his head resting on a fist. I ran towards him, so I could be closer to him - my body wanted to.
"Hey Ander!" I said happily.
"Hey!" he replied, waving to me. "Tonight's the night the ocean spirits come to surface. That's why I called you here."
"How do you know they'll come?"
"I just do." He chuckled, making me feel happier.
As if hearing us talk about them, blue figures emerged from the water. All of them were animals roaming in the air. I saw my favourite sea animal too, a stingray.
"Wanna play with the water?" he suggested when the spirits went back to the water. "What the-?"
The water rose like a massive tidal wave and charged towards the shore. Were the spirits angry with us? Angry that we witnessed it?
The wave crashed on us and I felt Ander's hand try to grab mine. I tried to grab as well but our hands parted and I went deep down to the sea bed, where the soft sand was.
Ander wasn't kidding, the water was freezing, I said when the water hit my body. My eyes were still open somehow, the salty water didn't sting them like they usually do when I splash the water in my face last time. Last time I nearly drowned but someone saved me. Then it hit me.
Ander, he's the one that saved me. That's why he looked so familiar.
"Cassandra!" he shouted from the surface above. "Cassandra!"
I followed his voice, searching and yearning for him and found him frantically looking for me in the water. I never saw his eyes so intensely sad, it made my heart sank.
I swam to him fast, as if I got the ability to swim faster now. I tried to surface, to break out of the water but I couldn't. I pound against it but it didn't break. I cried but my tears were lost in the water around me.
"Cass!" he shouted when he saw me. "You're okay! Come on, let's go!"
He reached out to me and I grabbed his hand which was in the water. I held it and he pulled with extreme force but I couldn't come above the surface of big blue sea.
"Ander, I don't think I can leave... I'm scared. I'm not drowning and I can speak and breathe just fine."
He looked so sad from below the small, slow waves. These waves weren't like the waves that brought me down here. I want to be with Ander on the land. Where I could touch his hand and walk on the sidewalk with him.
"I'll get you out no matter how long it takes. Don't be scared," he said softly, touching my face with his hand.
You did thought you could rest on the sand forever. You asked for it and we gave it to you. You were right.
A/N Glad you guys like it and sorry this took long to write.
