evan wasn't dead, but harry was still faced with the thought of him eventually...possibly dying.

after a moment of serious consideration, he called up someone who he knew could do something even better. he wouldn't kill him. they're not ready for that just yet. yes, he needed a taste of his own medicine but in reality killing him off would have been what he wanted. instead of letting him die, it was an ultimate decision to let him suffer; let the guilt eat him alive until it consumed his entire being. zayn did say he could do as he pleased.

harry didn't even shoot him. trisha's nine wasn't discharged. the bullet came from zayn's gun.

evan can't be the in the doghouse when he can't boss anyone around. with his head throbbing from being beaten with the bat, a busted eyesocket from zayn's hand plus plenty of facial injuries, a hole in his shoulder from the gunshot and now without the ability to speak, it gave the kids a sense of power. you don't fuck over your family when family was at one point all you had.

zayn got into evan's phone and tracked down the underdog, whose name was maverick. he was able to get the location of the group's clubhouse within minutes.

after evan passed out from all the adrenaline leaving his body and pain taking over, harry snapped a few images of the man to take with him. he wanted to confront redwood personally and let them know he is not to be fucked with. he's taken a whole gang out nearly on his own once before and he wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

trisha came home to the sight of her boys covered in blood, zayn pacing the basement and harry handing a hitman a bit of cash with a promise for later. when she asked what happened, searching for evan, zayn told her everything. to say she was shocked was an understatement, she nearly dropped to her knees when the hitman helped harry clean the blood from the floor.

harry cleaned himself up and smokes a cigarette he took from zayn as he sped across town to the clubhouse. zayn followed the hitman and nearly puked at the sight of his father but what needed to be done was done. this was it. he kept track of incoming information and let harry handle the real business due to his own inability to keep his cool.

harry pulled up in front of what looked like a little churchlike building once the sun began to rise, nearing six in the morning. he put the car in park and slumps in the seat, removing his gaze from the building and onto his ringing phone in the passenger seat. louis' name was flashed across the screen and he didn't have plans to ignore his love. if anything, he needed him. louis had called to check on him and see if everything was alright, almost laughing when he found out zayn shot his own father. it caused harry to chuckle at the irony as well. harry promised he would be home soon and ends the call with an "i love you."

he steps out, tossing the cigarette butt as he left the vehicle and makes his way to the front doors. a man roughly his age walks out of the building and puts his hand on his gun when he notices harry.

"the hell are you?" he asks. his blonde hair was styled in a slight messy fringe and his eyes were a stone grey.

harry stuffed his hands in his pockets. "i'm looking for maverick. it's important."

the man narrowed his eyes at him. "you never answered my question."

harry then puts his hands up. "you can search me, i'm clean. i'm from conquest," he purses his lips into a tight line.

he noticed the way the man's features changed as he pats him down before letting him inside. he wasn't sure if the look was of hesitation or genuine concern. he was led into a room with double doors and inside was a mahogany table with eight chairs surrounding it. picture frames littered the walls with black and white photos inside. harry couldn't make out what they were from afar.

"have a seat," the lad says. he sits at the head of the table and harry sits two chairs down from him.

"how did you know about me?" the man leaned forward. so this is maverick. he looked like he could do some damage but he didn't intimidate harry. the only person who intimidated him was evan when he was in the right headspace. louis, too.

harry leaned back in the chair and folded his hands in his lap. "he came clean."

maverick shook his head. "where is he now?"

the darker headed lad pulls his phone out and shows maverick the photos. maverick fish mouthed as harry's finger swiped on the screen. he wasn't sure if the man was even alive.

"i came to you because i want you to know this is what happens when our people decide they can just do as they please," harry says. "usually evan would just kill them off but we decided to change it up."

maverick glances at the last photo once more. evan was almost unrecognizable. "i see you mean business," he comments.

harry put the phone on the table and inches forward. "he mentioned that in order for him to merge, you wanted him to take his own people out."

"i didn't," maverick rose a hand. "my father did. redwood is his alliance."

"then why are you the one evan was meeting? why not him?" harry quizzes as he rose his hand to his face, picking at his lower lip. maverick looked around the room and rests his hands on the table.

he tells harry that he's just the messenger in this situation. he was basically another zayn, or another him. his father made the orders and he followed. he also mentions that evan hesitated to do his tasks to begin with but it was his only way out of conquest and into redwood. it was risky but maverick assumed it was a chance he was willing to take.

harry bit the inside of his cheek. maverick excuses himself and leaves the room momentarily, coming back with another man. he was older, maybe twice their age. slick black hair, salt and pepper goatee, he was loaded in tattoos of all sorts and harry noticed when he spoke that he was missing a tooth. he could definitely be one to kick some ass compared to maverick's tiny self.

"lionel maze," the man offered his hand out when he saw harry.

harry introduces himself with a firm handshake.

"can i offer you a beer? a cigar?" lionel asks and grabs a beer bottle from the cooler by the door. harry politely declines and the man gives the beer to his son, grabbing another one for himself.

lionel sits where maverick was once seated and his son sits opposite of harry. maverick had discussed with his father about the rising predicament they were about to face before they came back in the meeting hall so he was up to date so far. when lionel asked to see the pictures, harry watched the amusement creep across his face. he whistled lowly and hands harry his cell phone.

"i'm impressed, kid," lionel says.

harry gives him a puzzled look. "with all due respect, lionel, weren't you taking him in?"

the boss shook his head. "no. just made him think we were."

the astonishment written on harry nearly made the man laugh.

"so you're telling me we nearly killed him for no reason?"

lionel hummed at that. "there was a reason. you did the right thing, harry. you don't leave your tribe just because you're bored or don't see it lasting. you make changes. set rules, set boundaries." he pulled a cigar from his pocket and lit it.

harry took those words in with pursed lips. evan never bothered to make things right. he was willing to leave a catastrophe for everyone else to clean up.

"is he dead?" lionel asks.

harry shook his head.

lionel holds the cigar between two fingers and perched his arms against the edge of the mahogany. he took a full once over of harry. there was blood on his jeans and the blood was gone from his face but there was a cut on his lip that was barely swelling.

"he do that?" lionel motions to his lip. harry nods and crossed his arms.

"he ratted," maverick reminds his dad. harry nods at his words and shares a look with the kid. he gave off a strong leader vibe but beside his father, he was more of a supporter. harry could tell he had the willpower to take charge. he had that sense of determination in him.

redwood's leader tuts as he set the cigar in a nearby ashtray. "so what are your plans with him?"

harry shrugs his shoulders as he tells him he's not exactly sure. there was only so much he could do without ending his life. he's still considering it, it's undecided.

"cut you a deal," lionel clears his throat and takes a sip of his drink. "you let me finish the bloke off and i'll put you on some gun trades for a better price than you'll ever see."

harry pursed his lips. "or you let me do it myself, and cut me those prices just because you nearly got me and my people killed. out of courtesty," he shrugs.

the boss shared a look with his son. he looks back at harry and quirks an eyebrow. "courtesy?"

"yeah, you know, i've been stalked, my brother got locked up, fiancé nearly got locked up, there was a bomb strapped to one of our cars. i could have came in here guns-a-blazing," harry says. "i came here to let you know that we don't play where i'm from. with my head on right, i've shown you what's been done and what can be done."

lionel nods slowly and takes a puff of his cigar. "you're strong, kid. i see potential in you."

harry thanks him quietly and sits up.

"you handle the man, half off guns, and i can hook you up with a dealer of your choice," lionel declares. "final offer."

"what's my profit?"

"eighty, possibly."

harry's leans in. "can i talk to my guys about it and get back with you?"

lionel shrugs. "you know where to find me."

harry nods and puts his phone in his pocket. "it's been nice, lads. but i have a kid at home that will be pretty upset if i'm not there when she wakes up. i'll let you know something soon," he nods toward lionel and stands. lionel follows suit, leading him out the door with another handshake.

"it was a pleasure meeting you, mister styles," lionel claps his shoulder. "tell your old man hey for me."

throwing his head back as he took another shot, harry contemplated the outcomes of evan's near demise. he was unsure why zayn was so..cool with it all.

zayn had to confront evan's brotherhood about why harry hurt his father. zayn expected a turn for the worst — he expected them to have harry or himself meet their own fate, but they didn't. as fucked up as it seemed, they thanked him for doing their dirty work.

in all honesty, zayn was heartbroken. his father was his best friend at one point in time and he slowly faded away into this person he didn't even recognize. he was hurt by the actions he had to take but just like harry said, he needed a taste of his own medicine. this was not a game; this was their life. he was willing to take everyone down so he could start over.

this could be good. they could fill in the gaps evan failed to close, get better training in and build a better team. then again, this could be bad. they could end up turning everything inside out and causing conquest to completely fall apart. they couldn't do that. they couldn't let that happen.

louis pads into the living room, rubbing his eyes with a sweater covered hand. "baby," he murmured. "it's getting late."

"i know," harry rests the shot glass down on the coffee table and leans back into the sofa. his fiancé frowns and wiggles his way onto his lap, leaning into him as harry wrapped his arms around his waist.

"you alright?" louis asks softly. harry nods, pressing a gentle kiss to his temple. he had been up all night, confronted redwood and spent the day lazing around with his daughter. he was fine for now, more worried about his brother and what trisha was probably thinking, but fine.

louis tucks his head in the crook of his neck and plants soft kisses to the warm skin. eventually he got up and went to the kitchen, coming back with a second shot glass. he nestled himself back on harry's lap and poured two shots, handing one to his partner.

"makes me think of bounty," he joked. harry gave a short chuckle as they took a shot together. louis' face twisted as the alcohol burned through his body. his drinking days were way over.

he gags and swats harry's chest as the man laughed at him. "fuck you, tosser."

harry hums and pulled him in for a kiss. "i'm sorry i've been crazy lately," he murmured.

louis kissed him again and cupped his chin with his hand. "we both have been. it's shock."

his partner thanked him for being there for him. louis said it was nothing, he would always be there for him no matter what and poured another shot.

"baby alright?" harry asks as he was handed his glass.

louis nods. "i just checked on her, she's still slumped. thank god."

harry hums and takes his drink, louis taking his shortly after.

louis tucks a strand of harry's hair behind his ear. "what's going on in that brain of yours?"

harry rests his hand on louis' thigh. louis laid his head on the man's shoulder and toyed with his necklace as he spoke to him.

"redwood offered up some deals so i'm gonna talk to zayn about it. not sure how to bring it up to him, really." harry moved to kiss the top of his head and gives his waist a gentle squeeze. "i'm just worried about zayn. promise i'm okay."

louis closed his eyes and slumped against him, nearly dozing off as harry's gentle touches to his body and own personal comfort made him sleepy again.

"you sure you're alright with this?" louis yawned, scrunching his face when harry cooed at him. "i don't want you to get too into your head and go nuts."

harry rubs his thumb against louis' hip. "it'll all work out eventually."

nodding, the smaller lad presses his nose against harry's neck. "i just worry about you. this is a big commitment," he reminds him. "'s scary, really."

harry frowns to himself and kisses his head again. "i know. that's why i wanted your input."

louis hums and puts his hand on harry's chest. "any update on fuckface?"

harry shook his head. "gio said he's still the same. he's been giving him pain meds but that's really it." he sighs softly as louis eventually tucked his head in the crook of his neck. "wanna ask you a favor, babes."

"what's up?"

the idea was ridiculous since louis had quite the hatred towards his father figure at the moment. "would you be able to use your med smarts and check on evan every once in a while? just to see if we've infected the bastard and whatnot."

"do i have to?" louis rolled his eyes.

"not really," harry shrugs. "but it was just a thought."

louis pursed his lips and sighed. "fine. but only because you asked."

harry kisses his head again and plays with his hair. "you can fuck up all you want."

his partner hummed. "i like that idea."

harry chuckled and strokes louis' side, resting his chin on his head.

"you ready to come to bed yet?" louis asked with another yawn.

harry nods. "yeah, i think so," he says quietly. louis gets up and takes the bottle and glasses back to the kitchen, cleaning up and leads his fiancé back to their room. the television was the only light illuminating the room.

"what?" louis leaned against the wall once harry got settled in and was peeking over at him.

harry shook his head as he took the image before him in. louis' shorts were nearly covered by the sweater he was wearing. it was one of harry's own. the blue fabric hung loosely over him, exposing his collarbone tattoo just a hair. harry was so in love with him and his beauty.

"nothing," harry says softly. "come here." he lifted the duvet up. louis turned the hallway light off and got under the covers, snuggling up to his lover and sighed contently when the man wrapped his arms around him.

"you sure you're gonna be okay?" louis asks him, trailing his hand down harry's arm.

harry hummed a 'mhm' and flipped through the channels until he found something worthy of background noise. bless raven and her somewhat heavy sleeping. "i'll be okay, i promise."

louis nods against his chest and pressed his lips to his skin. "i love you," he murmured.

harry rubbed his back with a gentle hand and kissed the top of his head. "i love you more, prince. go back to bed."

he didn't mean to worry him with his recent actions. he honestly wished louis wasn't a part of the disaster caused by evan because he didn't deserve that. he didn't need to stress out all the time because harry's in an unpromising position, he's fine. he still lives his normal life at home with just a few more tweaks in it. all this did was give them a sense of what life would be like once evan gives out and is gone forever. he dreaded that day, but part of him knew it would be soon.

very soon.
